Longtime readers of Push Square will know that we actually quite enjoy the Sword Art Online games. Sure, they're far from perfect, but they're kind of like fast food in action RPG form; cheap looking and perhaps a little unhealthy, but easy to get into and surprisingly addictive.
And this trend looks set to continue with Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, although judging by the visuals, it does seem as though this next entry has been given a bigger budget. Anyway, the awkwardly named game has received a decent amount of gameplay footage courtesy of Japanese publication Dengeki PlayStation, which we've included above. The gameplay starts at 44 minutes into the video, and lasts around 10 minutes.
The footage features some casual exploration as well as a quick look at combat. All in all, it seems to be shaping up pretty well. The full release doesn't have a launch window yet, but hopefully it turns out to be the best Sword Art Online game to date.

I've always been interested in this franchise but honestly there seems to be so many of them I don't even know where to begin.
@Wazeddie22 For what it's worth I think you'd be fine just waiting for this new one and starting there.
Each game is kind of a sequel but not really. It's hard to explain. Ultimately you can play any of them without prior knowledge, although some bits and pieces might be a tad confusing at points.
I hope this game doesnt dissapoint me like all the rest
looks interesting, you can definitely tell they put more effort into this one
Wow,... Y's NOX, Guilty Gear, Tales and now SAO. Great to see they really putting an extra layer of shine on these iP. This one is on the list.
Not played Fatal Bullet yet. Down to $14 on PC, so maybe time to give it a try.
That really does look like quite the step up from the prior entries.
@ShogunRok Yeah this one is looking like a great place to start if they really don't need prior knowledge.
Gotta be honest out of all the ones I know of Fatal Bullet is probably the one I like the look of most.
@Wazeddie22 release order is always an easy answer. I started Hollow Fragment on Vita recently (sadly no longer on the store, but there's another updated port for PS4 if you're in the market for it), and the battle system looks pretty interesting, with all the systems that urge you to cooperate with AI teammates and balance your attack patterns.
@nhSnork Thanks,I might just pick this one up if it turns up on a sale...and add it to my huge list of backlog games. At least I'll know I'm starting with the right one.
I love the anime but I've only seen really bad critics on SAO games so I never got to try any of them. Hopefully this one will turn out to be good.
