By all accounts, Final Fantasy VII Remake is looking hugely impressive. We might only be exploring Midgar in the first instalment, but if the whole game is being given the same treatment, we can't wait to see the new takes on our favourite moments from the original. One of those is an early point in the game: the cross-dressing mission.
In the original, Cloud must acquire a dress, a wig, and other accessories in order to disguise himself as a girl. In quite a convoluted plan, the player must do this to try and rescue Tifa from Don Corneo. However, it sounds like Cloud's visit to the Honey Bee Inn will play out a little differently in the remake.
In the latest issue of Famitsu, translated by Gematsu, director Testuya Nomura says the scene will be in the game, but changed for a modern audience. "The Honey Bee Inn cross-dressing event is still in. We’ve made it more modern. If we made the facility like we did in the original game, the physical unease would be staggering, so that was no good…"
Elsewhere in the interview, Nomura discusses a couple of other interesting points. It seems there will be brand new enemies to fight, as well as the watchmen of fate, a new threat that will follow the party around the game. The remake will include all new scenarios, and lots of new dialogue. You can read more through here, if you're interested.
What do you think of a more modern take on the Honey Bee Inn mission? What other famous scenes from FFVII are you looking forward to seeing in Remake? Slip on something more comfortable in the comments below.

To be fair this entire section was absolutely off the chain back in the day, I've become desensitised to it over the years but looking back it was absolutely nuts to go from playing Sonic & Knuckles one day to running round in a dress as Cloud the next.
Although, you don't need to visit the Honey Bee Inn to progress, what with Don Corneo's mansion being the target of your infiltration. Maybe the Inn will become compulsory in the remake!
Not sure about these "Watchmen of Fate" though. That sounds like just the kind of stuff they shouldn't be introducing....
In other words, changed to appease hypersensitive types. I love the direction the industry has taken since 2012 when everybody started losing their minds over dumb crap that doesn't have an effect on anything. 'I don't buy your games but this makes me uncomfortable. I still won't buy your game but change it!' And the devs say 'sure thing.' No fun allowed mostly because of millennials in the United States who can't handle anything that doesn't fit their world view.
As usual they get a W. Really hoping CDPR and Activision don't cave on stuff that morons are complaining about in regards to Cyberpunk 2077 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare. It's gotten that freaking bad that one of my last hopes for a game company not caving in to ridiculous demands is freaking Activision. Even people at Rockstar were saying insane things like 'we can't make GTA VI in the Trump era' back in October. Freaking bizarro world.
Sounds good to me and Tifa's design makes a lot of sense and looks fantastic, also can't wait to see what they have done with the Honey Bee Inn. I'm almost not bothered about the games coming this year with this, Cyberpunk and likely Last of Us 2 first thing next year
Not holding out hope it will actually be any better, Japan doesn't have the best track record for handling crossdressing and trans issues with any kind of sensitivity or tact.
"If we made the facility like we did in the original game, the physical unease would be staggering, so that was no good…"
Because graffiks? hahaha
@Jimjammyjammerz
Except I never said any of that, nice try though.
@NintendoFan4Lyf
I never played the full way through FF VII because I had tired of turn based games by 1997 but from what I remember of watching my friends play the original release had its dark moments but found a nice balance with humor. I also thought Crisis Core: FF VII did a great with that. It was a long time ago now but when I played through it 2008 I remember thinking it was dark but again sprinkled in some laughs and even the silly romance stuff.
Love plenty of games with darker themes, hell The Last of Us is one of the greatest games ever created, but it's nice when devs lighten things up too.
@Jimjammyjammerz
You seem to have inferred quite the opposite of what @Gamer83 wrote.
It was literally the only way to be fair.
@kyleforrester87 true but the Inn was only needed if you wanted Cloud to get picked over Tifa and Aerith so i think it might still be optional
I've never played FF7, why am I reading all these comments?
also anyone else hoping that you get to keep the clothes as an alternate costume, how funny would it be for Cloud to storm Shin-Ra HQ while still in his dress
@Gamer83 You make it sound like none of these millennials are actually playing games - they are. You and your friends may not care about, say, portrayal of lgbt people in games, but that doesn't mean that people who do aren't real gamers or whatever.
Regardless, your problem seems to be that people are complaining too much about things that don't actually affect them. But here you are complaining about Cyberpunk being having to explain a poster in their game. Because you think it gives a win to your opponents in the culture war? Do you see what I'm getting at?
@Jimjammyjammerz
He makes a good point about the aggressive reactions to what is perceived as 'wrongthink'.
And your reaction is a good proof of that, and the current trend that no-one can possibly disagree with each other on any point without being enemies/bigots/snowflakes.
Regarding the changes:
"...the physical unease would be staggering..."
To me, this reads more like they aren't happy to depict fetishised gay men in a fetishised gay club. And nothing else.
It's interesting that should that be the case, that it seen as some sort of progress; as if these men and clubs do not exist in the real world.
@KALofKRYPTON I couldn't agree more with you the way you interpreted Nomura's words. Maybe he meant something different, but that's what it sounded like to me.
They'll have to change it somehow otherwise somebody somewhere is going to take mild offence and cause another sh*tstorm on Twitter. Look at all the hoo-ha over one in-game advertisement from a Cyberpunk 2077 screenshot.
I was just hoping to see a load of buff lads. 🤷♂️
@JoeBlogs
The physical unease would be staggering... Comes across to me as trying to appease people who get offended by any little thing in a game. There's nothing wrong with campy fun which is what FF VII had. It's like when family sitcoms portray the father (and this was true of almost every one I grew up watching) as an absolute idiot. People have forgotten how to laugh a little bit. If SquareEnix was sending a message that gay people are evil and we should banish them all I'd have a problem with that and wouldn't buy their game. That isn't the case and no where in my comment did I suggest I want to see that kind of crap or black people getting drawn with big red lips or whatever else. I'm just commenting on what has been a common trend in gaming lately. Dev puts something out there, somebody on twitter or facebook sees it, doesn't like it, freaks out and then devs have to change it. And it happens with almost every game these days no matter how minor the issue. People can't seem to understand that not every game is made for everybody, don't like the content, don't buy it. In the end these are freaking video games there are far more important real life issues to be concerned about.
@naruball @KALofKRYPTON i thought it was more along the lines of the change in art style would make some aspects of the Inn look out of place after all the original had a Chibi and Anime type vibe to it but the remake is going more realistic because lets be honest the body builders in there would look 8 foot tall and have a shoulder width wider than the A1 if they kept the original aesthetic
of course for all we know he could just be talking about the bit where President Shinra was holding a satanic ritual in one of the rooms, now that would be uneasy and staggering
@Jimjammyjammerz Why are you getting your Jimmies in a jam? You shall not curse, it is not allowed in this safe space, our eyes can not handle such vile filth.
Hitler? 1930s? What’s going on?
@JoeBlogs ahh that I understand! Pewpew haha. Dead nazis. Classic.
@turntSNACO
Nothing to do with the culture war. It's simply about games and devs having to do things because somebody somewhere was offended. What's going on with Modern Warfare for example has me feeling like I'm back in the 90s with the whole nonsense over blood and gore in Mortal Kombat. People, mostly journalists, demanding certain scenes be changed or simply removed because it's too brutal, violent, mean and 'uncomfortable.' No sh*t it's a game about war there isn't going to be rainbows in the background and everybody holding hands, singing and dancing to happy tunes. It's just this crap that I'm tired of. There's been games that have made me uncomfortable too. TLoU had one scene in particular, I didn't demand that it should've been patched out. That's the stuff I'm sick of and it's more annoying when devs cave to the outrage. If Infinity Ward wants to portray war for the brutality that it is I want to see the intended vision not something butchered because a dude with a notepad got an early behind the scenes look, felt squeamish and decided to take to twitter and tell everybody how 'bad' it is.
@Jimjammyjammerz
I think you should learn what a straw man argument is, and then you should probably learn to not make them.
Irrespective of what you think, making an argument in such a way doesn't exactly make your perspective appealing to anyone who doesn't already hold your point of view...
@JoeBlogs
Yeah, I grew up playing Mortal Kombat and plenty of games that some would call 'murder simulators.' Didn't make me a violent person. People can tell the difference between fantasy and reality. I've never known anybody who's treated people poorly in real life because of something they saw in a game. In fact, the biggest a-holes I know are people who've never played video games at all.
Shouldn't game characters have flaws in their personality and action? If every single character is too socially correct then they have lost much of what would make them unique. I'm even starting to see some people get up in arms when a games villain has certain intolerances.
I never feel one should go out of their way to offensive, but if it fits within the plot/world then we should accept it even if we don't agree.
@JoeBlogs
There is a staggering difference between not consuming and supporting content from a video game company and not challenging political ideology though, isn't there? Come on now that's a huge stretch.
In so much as challenging a political ideology, that's what @Gamer83 is doing no?
What Nomura said is incredibly vague, and can be interpreted within any surrounding context.
However, what Gamer83 said was not nearly as vague, and he expressed his position in no uncertain terms.
So, I think the best response to Nomura's statement is:
Well what does that mean, exactly?
However, I don't think the reaction is at all uncalled for what with current climate in the video games industry.
i dont even play final fantasy why am i here
@JoeBlogs
That is how a lot of them act though. Scantily clad, we can't take her seriously, get her out of the game, get this franchise out of gaming... I mean I get the attitude to an extent because when it comes to a $60 purchase there better be some substance or I'm not forking over the cash. But a lot of times 'critics' will just write off anything they don't like as offensive and say the character can't be taken seriously. The problem a lot of times is their attitude not so much the game. I like variety and welcome all different kind of portrayals as long as it isn't outright messages of hate. If a dev is making a game and the message is all women are useless and just there for sex or if it's dropping racial or homophobic slurs left and right? Yeah, I'm going to agree that's not cool and would suggest people avoid said game.
Oh man, what is happening in this comments section.
@JoeBlogs
What you've said there is very much at the crux of what a lot of people find objectionable.
"...suggest more positive ways of portraying those types of characters..."
Because that is a prevalent sentiment, which on the surface of things is all well and good - we're left in a situation where only 'positive' depictions of any particular minority group are viewed without scorn in entertainment media coverage.
Lots of dev's, publishers etc are chasing that rainbow - so it tends to feel that large swathes of output is set to the same tune.
Stereotypes don't come from nowhere, and are valid depictions in certain situations.
How 'harmful' a stereotype actually is in 2019 is utterly debatable.
Whatever. They just need to make sure the game is glitch free.
I think theyre selling the cross dress thing to be more toned down being that culture nowadays accepts drag and cross dressing on a public level so they would have to edit the one sided heterosexual view cloud had in the original where he was in like awe/shame of having to cross dress...but hey, for my childhood friend/love, i would prolly endure it too to get things done.
And in my opinion, the watchers of fate (new enemy that follows you) i think thats either gonna represent the "Weapons" souls watchful eye of the coming calamity and theyre trying to allow sephiroth to carry out his plan due to shinra's incompetence and draining of the Iifestream. The watchmen could be those black caped clones of sephiroths. Orrrrrr they could probably be a in-game misrepresentation of the knights of the round table, like imposters tryin to allow the bad, and eventually after you handle all the watchmen, you can travel to the materia caves and acquire the knights summon after they come back to their senses on whats really happening in Gaia. Mainly i think theyre gonna be the weapons soul in different form, or the knights o the round possessed like they were in FFXV Royal Edition update. Anyone think im on to something?
@JoeBlogs
Sure, but those two things aren't exactly analogous though.
One is a game company company.
The other is literally the Nazis.
That isn't going to make anyone see anything other than their preconceived biases, and given how absurd the comparison is I couldn't blame them... I mean, I'd hate to invoke Godwin's Law, but come on!... When comparing something to something like that you're only going to get a negative perspective.
I don't think most would ignore a harmful stereotype either. I think it would be pretty evident that the ones that are offended by a 'cross-dressing' portion of a video game are ignoring the fact that 'cross-dressing' and being transgender are not the same thing at all.
Many cis-gender males and females cross dress, and ignoring that fact while making arguments on behalf of both of those groups is dissengenuos and just as dangerous as any harmful stereotype. (Not saying you're doing any of this, mind, I'm referencing another person I've seen, here and elsewhere)
Why? Because it becomes harder and harder to discern who to believe in these situations, and it just makes things easier to accept your own bias.
The best course of action is to just stay in your lane, and help when you are asked to. As someone who belongs to a so-called "marginalized group" it is downright frustrating to see people offended on my behalf, so I completely understand where people are coming from when they push back on this sort of behavior.
@kyleforrester87 i hear ya...i was born 89 and i feel the same, but we got lucky kind of to be desensitized the way we did being how crazy styles, graphics, movies, gay rights, cross dressin being normal now, etc. Imagine if we wasnt playin this or MK fighters or Metal Gear Solid type games where they really imitated some wild sh** and made us think violence was cool and it was funny dressing cloud as a girl. Yes there was crash bandicoot and spyro, kids games, but the gta's/mk/resident evils of ps1/2 era shaped our gaming culture today and how devs have to compensate for societies newly found sensitivity. We were savages as kids but not in a bad way lol
@Confused_Dude you’re one confused dude.
Ive liked everything Ive seen and heard about this remake until he casually threw 'watchmen of fate' in there. Dont do that whatever it is
@JoeBlogs #salute
@Jimjammyjammerz Please could you watch your language. Great to see that there's some debate here, but let's try to keep it civil. It's okay to disagree, as long as discussions remain respectful.
@JoeBlogs
I don't think it does. There'd have to be a conversation on what a harmful stereotype is within that context, and who it's harmful to.
I also think it's inherently more harmful to speak on other people's behalf because it opens up interpretations from people who do not live that experience.
It's evident your point doesn't stand when you must conflate a stereotype in a video game to a political ideology and its rhetoric.
You'd have a point if you could explain why the stereotype is harmful, to what group, and within the context of the body of work.
Ah, Hitler - indirectly responsible for probably the highest amount of attempts to win arguments and debates since the 1930s 😉 Personally, I don't mind them toning down the scene if it is for artistic reasons to fit more with the remake's aesthetic, but if it is because they're afraid of the faux outrage from mostly people who seem to spend more time on social media than playing videogames, then I do find this irritating. Part of the magic of the original FFVII for me was the campy humour and randomness of some of the scenes, alongside the darker emotional impact, and I'd be sad to see the former being eroded because of a fear that certain Twitter dwellers might have a whine about some perceived offence. I mean they like whining more than they like not being offended I've observed, so just give them what they truly want is what I'd suggest! 😛
@JoeBlogs
There's actually a huge divide in the SW fandom right now and guys on both sides call eachother out on stuff and get into some crazy arguments. I'm not an SW fan myself but I've seen it because I'm subbed to some youtube channels who have people on there that are big fans of the franchise.
Anyway, I've posted what I wanted to on this. I certainly take on board things you say because I appreciate the different perspective. I just think we're getting a bit out of control also and losing sight of what video games used to be about. I know it's a minority view these days. Appreciate the discussion though.
On a more serious note, it seems they've reduced Tifa's breast size! 😱 As a proud member of the waifu society, this is unacceptable.
@Amusei
Flat is justice.
Considering Sega removed an exceptionally effeminate Gay character called Ash, from the western release of Bare Knuckle 3 back in 1994, due to homosexual sterotyping, I dont see why this is also such a big issue, devs have made decisions like this for years.
I've been playing games for nearly 40 years and it's only in recent times that games have started to change for the better in most part, regarding the portrayal of different people in society.
Designers and creators should take the greater world into consideration, as my reference above states, its not anything new and there are always going to be older games that dont look good to modern eyes or look "old fashioned" in the imagery they portray. This section of Final isnt exactly Custers Last Stand, however I can see why it may need to be "updated" to address the modern societal changes in attitude or from a design point of view abd thats fair enough. Not everyone will be happy, but ultimately the Dev has control.
I just dont want the medium I love, sanitised to the point of being completely numb to the world and its nuancies, both good and bad.
The internet is wonderous, but the amount of games that social media are trying to shackle for even the most innocuous of reasons is becoming tiring and concerning...
Well if this is people biggest complaint about FF7 less insulting depiction of gay people why do you even care. FF7R is a big big remake i dont think that any big company would act different. And lets be honest here why is it such a big issue. With the new graphics it would look so stupid. 😆
And here i was waiting to play as Cloud Strife and Tifa with their awesome new looks and weapons. And the new Cant wait to see my favorite Summons Bahamut Neo and Shiva and more about Avalanche and Jessie she looks really cool. 😀
I can't look at that picture and not start singing YMCA and now I want the Village People in the game. You can't stop the music. 😁
@dellyrascal I dont see the problem with changes games or media changes with the ages. The most people who get mad about this never have these issues to cope with these issues. Im a caucasian heterosexual and i get that sometimes things could/should be adressed. Did you see the backlash when Ellie kissed a girl. 😆
Who cares, I'll play it in Dreams. I've heard it has lots of cones in inappropriate places. So that should keep the pervs among you happy.
My new favourite pastime is to start reading these comment sections half way down and try to guess what game they're about
@Amusei She still looks awsome its Tifa. 😀
@Flaming_Kaiser - Oh man, dont... that and the Mass Effect saga(s) live long in the memory!!...
I hope instead of just finding like silk or satin dresses or whatever we can find all different outfits and wigs and then Aeris and Tifa help do Cloud's make-up and we have to make him look like the belle of the ball and then he struts into Don Corneo's mansion in slow motion while Filthy/Gorgeous by Scissor Sisters plays and the camera cuts to all of Don Corneos goons one by one making googly eyes at Cloud and he just flicks his hair as if to say I don't think you're ready for this jelly or whatever
@Gamer83
You hit the nail on the head. You really rustled their jimmies, they can't handle so much truth in a single post and had to resort to strawman arguments and putting words in your mouth. We need more gamers like you willing to preach the truth and put these nutjobs in their place. Good on you.
@dellyrascal I find it so strange that people in western countries have issues with that. 😆
Thats why i find the SJW meme a big joke people use it for everything. No lesbians but i want to toch my underage girls?
@JoeBlogs
I do understand that you have no point if the foundation of your point is made in bad faith.
Which it absolutely was.
The fact you keep insisting on bringing the Nazis into your argument is testament to that. It's absurd. It's even more absurd after you admitted it was crass and over the top, albeit only a bit by your own admission.
You can't very well validate your argument by comparing something to a great extreme like the Nazis if it doesn't at all compare, especially when making a generalized point.
It just doesn't stand when you remove the shaky foundation of the Nazi analogy, and that's something you don't seem to understand.
You're doing more harm than good with that analogy, and your insistence on keeping to it.
@carlos82 Wolfenstein, maybe?
@Kidfried I was exaggerating a bit, I'm looking forward to the likes of Doom Eternal and a few other, just meaning that the games I'm looking forward to most are early next year
@Flaming_Kaiser she looks good to me
@JoeBlogs
So where's the bigotry then? Point it out for everyone, because all I've seen you do is make tenuous, at the very best, comparisons that are so beyond the pale it's hard to take the entire "point" of your argument seriously.
As far as I read, @Gamer83 didn't say to ignore anything! He said if you don't like it, don't buy it, and he expressed disdain for people ,that probably don't even play these games, to impose their collective influence over a company making games.
So, why is it all appropriate to bring Nazis in to this?
I care too. Which is why I challenged the foundation of your argument. Compare Nazis to Nazis. They still exist.
That's why I find the foundation for you argument so disagreeable. It's a dangerous platform to stand on when you're not aiming in the proper direction.
@Flaming_Kaiser
Yeah that i have never understood either, for all the sensibilities we like to believe we have in the west, the demonization of homosexuality is no better than the supposed civilisations those same people pour scorn on, yet they'll happily defend the sexualisation you mention.
The worlds just weird... I've come to that conclusion a long while ago and i don't think anything will change it.
@carlos82 I know Tifa looks awsome. 😃
So more modern in terms of gameplay/enemies? I'm relieved if so...I never played FF7 but I know about that part of the game from GDQ and if they changed it entirely people would be mad...
@Constable_What That reasoning goes two way ways. Square Enix wants too change it because they think they think the world changed. People look different at things now then 12 years ago.
Some important issues being deferred and discussed from this probably very minor change to the remake. But no one seems to have noticed the real issue! The directors name is spelt incorrectly, 'Testuya' indeed.
"More modern"
Translation: more "progressive"...
It can only be a good thing. What was considered funny 20 odd years ago is now considered hurtful to a group of people so if you really want your games to be insensitive then maybe you should check your own personal biases? It’s not like anyone’s complaining that they don’t show repeats of ‘Mind Your Language’ on Gold at the weekends, are they?
@Flaming_Kaiser
What reasoning? Don't like it don't buy it?
You're right. If you don't like something, and someone is charging money for it. Don't buy it.
@Jimjammyjammerz you're not progressive, you're regressive. You hide your bigotry and hate behind a mask of morality
@FullbringIchigo i think u had to dress up, but if you didnt get all the items then he doesnt choose cloud. Or something like that, i need to play it again before the remake comes out. I find that i have forgot alot stuff about this great game!
@JoeBlogs
Don't like it don't buy it is not tantamount to ignoring something, especially when that something can be perceived without buying it in the first place. Just because you don't buy something doesn't mean you're ignoring it. It just means you don't want to spend your hard earned money on it.
I completely understand what you did with your point. You expressly removed it from its context and placed it in another context... That isn't at all dissengenuos to you?
You said what you did yourself just now.
OK, so what games do that that you take issue with? Call of Duty for middle eastern men being terrorists?
There are middle eastern terrorists in that game. There are also middle eastern soldiers. Civilians.
There are Russian terrorists too.
Even American and European terrorists.
There are all of those things in real life, and they're immediately relatable as a realistic antagonistic force.
People don't tend to like terrorists of any background.
What other games have you played that does this? I mostly saw it in 90's - 00's action movies.
I haven't played a game in quite a while that depicts homosexuals as objects of ridicule. Maybe some situations in Yakuza, but it's never outright hateful, it's more of an unexpected or uncomfortable situation that the protagonist finds himself in.
I can't think of anything else. Have any particularly eggregious examples?
Now women in video games is more of a point I can see, but not really as sex objects lately, but more as a plot device that lazy writers use to give their protagonists more depth.
However, none of that is at all equatable to Nazism in any way shape or form. Putting your argument within that context is akin to placing a scarecrow in a different field.
Your argument would benefit from dropping the Nazi angle.
@ellsworth004 yeah you had to do the dress up but the Honey Bee Inn was optional even to that, all it did was let you get extras to increase the chance of Cloud getting picked over Tifa and Aerith
the only mandatory parts were the Dress and the Wig (oh that reminds me will we still get to do squats to get the wig?)
Tired of these capitulating devs, & you sensitive ass people...
@JoeBlogs
It's "dishonest" because you took something out of its context and placed it in another to suit your argument.
I used dissengenuos because that word implies being misleading without realizing it more so than the word dishonest does.
I suppose I could have said 'intellectually irresponsible'. One can be dishonest without realizing it, especially if one is operating on flawed information.
That's the real issue with that particular comparison. It's much too serious and extreme to throw around.
I'm just trying to give some constructive feedback, you don't need to be resentful. :]
@Gamer83
The "hypersensitive" types are the majority of male gamers. And they wonder why women won't date them. Gender should be included in ALL games regardless of your personal feels. You don't get to decide someones gender only them and doctors get those rights. Masculinity is toxic. If it wasn't there would be NO domestic violence.
@JoeBlogs That's fair. The like and respect is mutual. I wasn't intending to make it seem that what you said was negative. It was just shortsighted, but I'll let that lie there.
I'm OK with dropping this! Agree to disagree.
I'm happy we were cordial and avoided insults and the like. Have a good day.
@Constable_What I don’t mean to cause trouble but I’m pretty sure I saw @JoeBlogs stick his middle finger up in your direction after you’d turned around..
@kyleforrester87 "Although, you don't need to visit the Honey Bee Inn to progress, what with Don Corneo's mansion being the target of your infiltration. Maybe the Inn will become compulsory in the remake!"
@nookie_egg yeah you only need the wig and the dress which you obviously can get off the guy in the pub and by doing squats. You get extra stuff by going in the inn but you don’t need to. Just admit it, you love it in there!
@kyleforrester87 Huh, TIL.
I am an inn-fiend to be fair, I even used to spy through the keyholes haha.
@kyleforrester87 @nookie_egg have you seen what goes on behind those keyholes once all the overlays are taken off
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MKpm_90HQo
I don’t remember a bunch of semi-naked ripped men being in Smash last time I played 🤔
@Confused_Dude could there be a more perfect handle/comment combo? 😂
@Jimjammyjammerz First of all, grow up and stop with your illogical emotional sensationalism.
Secondly, yes, it is bizzaro world when it comes to backwards regressive emotional sensationalism with no logical rationality and your level of insecurity.
Now, black people do have big lips- that's part of their ethnic identity. Dumb? Considering we have rappers representing the black population, its understandable why we would come to a conclusion such as that. Regardless, you thinking blacks having big red lips is bad representation despite it being true for a big portion of their race probably shows that maybe you are the racist. And your description of Chinese people does fit ethnic Chinese if you had any slight knowledge of history and ethnic clothing and appearance back in the day. Please stop with your ignorance.
I dont know who you are but my best assumption is that you are either insecure or have been fed false information by a fabricated reality you created for yourself instead of calming down and composing your emotions. This regressive sensationalism needs to end. If you call it discrimination for physically representing people how they actually are, you just are insecure living in a state of denial.
The emotional sensationalism here needs to be put to an end. The whole thing about cross dressing is so misunderstood due to sensationalism of a group that isnt even 5% of the population, yet they cry that cross dressing is "normal" and must be represented in the way they see fit in order to hide their own insecurities of who they are and paranoia on how others see them. People who don't know the biopsychological/evolutionary perspective are also doomed to fall prey to sensational rhetoric being pushed here. Have the courage and integrity to be honest with yourself- it will make you happier and more at peace. Yes, cross dressing is abnormal when your intent is to represent yourself as the opposite sex and you believe it. Does being abnornal make you less of offender person? No, it doesnt- you can't help it. Your brain just has a miswiring, that's all. You still have potential as anybody else. Gender clothing exists because human nature has always kept differences between males and females in order for there to be social cohesion and effective formation of families to build society (there is science as to how clothing makes the opposite sex appear more appealing). That's how we are. Now, when the intent of cross dressing is to fulfill a goal such as rescuing a character (like in this game) or defending your home and armor was only made for men (Joan of Arc), or for even humor purposes (like in this game again), then cross dressing is fine and understandable, because the intent isnt to destroy natural gender roles and appearance.
But no, insecurities and those suffering from cognitive dissonance that make up a very tiny portion of society have to come in with their paranoia and ruin everything. It shames me that we regressed as a society to this point where the minority control the culture and dictate what is acceptable, because they can't accept themselves for what they are and feel the need to pressure society to change for them and force people to adhere to their narrow ideas of morality. News flash, morality is relative- it's not a universal law. It's been changing and flip flopping for generations. Why? Because it's an abstract concept with roots in culture, human survival instincts, philosophy, religion, and more.
In short, stop being so self righteous and stop crying for representation in the way you want. Your feelings do not triumph in the end. If society is truly progressive, we would focus more on what is true or false and not what is right or wrong.
You're all better this.
Would it be more or less triggering if Don Corneo is gay, kidnaps Barret, and Tifa and Aeris have to drrss up as men?
@IsolationQueen "Gender should be included in ALL games regardless of your personal feels."
Right now your personal feelings are saying game developers have no right to make a game the way they want if it contradicts your world view. You sound insecure.
"You don't get to decide someones gender only them and doctors get those rights."
First of all, it isnt a right. Rights are social constructs. This is a matter of truth vs false. You don't choose your gender, your DNA does which determines your sex and your gender is your biopsychological behavior that helps you fulfill your biological role. For example, women have breasts. What are they used for? Feeding the young. How does nature motivate you to utilize them? Through the traditional feminine gender behavior that attracts mates and seeks an offspring (as the goal of sexual attraction is to motivate reproduction). It's not a fabrication of personal dreams and thought- if they think it is, they are very not self aware or able to rationalize their emotions. And that involves tossing away your ego to accept.
"Masculinity is toxic."
And you arent? Are you even listening to yourself? You dont even know what masculinity is. Traditional masculinity and feminity is the whole reason humans advanced. Males have testosterone (adds aggression) and on average bigger builds in order to protect and provide resources for society while women are more sensitive and have breasts, for the purpose of rearing and nurturing the future generation. Domestic violence isnt masculinity, it's called being a brute that both sexes are capable of. It goes against natural design and is based solely on the desire for dominance in an ineffective manner.
You're just an angsty insecure troll. Your crusade against human nature is the reason why depression is on the rise around. People are being forced to censor and repress their inner human at the desires of the weak in heart and mind.
@JoeBlogs
Sir, it has come to my attention that you have made a gesture most vulgar within my presence.
As @kyleforrester87 is a man of utmost and pristine honor I have taken him at his word as a scholar and a gentleman that he has witnessed your most heinous and dastardly actions.
With respect, I demand that you meet me in the square where we shall duel with broadswords until first blood is drawn.
Though I most warn you! I am keenly trained in the art of historical European martial arts... Many a foe's blood has been let by my trusty sword, so you may send a champion to fight in your stead. In fact! I recommend it... My technique is unmatched, and my body is in so immaculate, so honed a condition that the Greek Gods' maws are agape in starstruck wonderment.
I wish a good day upon you, and I hope to see you for tea.
Good day, I say! I say good day! Hurmph!
@njtank17 none of your statements are valid. Not all women are born to produce offspring. Gender and sex are completely different. Modern science has proven the brain develops closer aligned with what someones gender is which explains why transwomen brains are more developed like cisgender women brains and transmales are more aligned with male brains. I am sorry you live in a world where having an open mind is something of an anomoly. You are a prime example of a toxic male defending the herd. Men suck. Plain and simple. Glad my life is great! Sorry yours isnt!
Some of the comments being said here are frankly some of the stupidest, most toxic things I have read on PushSquare, majority of which is being said by people who signed up purely to troll and spew hate. The comparison to Nazis was bad, but @IsolationQueen's posts really take the cake as some of the most idiotic crap I've ever seen being spewed here. Actually it borders on being the dumbest thing I have ever read on the entire internet, but that's a close race right there. I have a feeling this particular gem of a human will be meeting the banhammer very soon. When you have to end your argument with a completely irrelevant shot in the dark about how your life is better than someone else's (that you "met" on the internet no less) then you've got some real issues that need working on. I'm not even saying that to be mean, get some help.
Opinions are like assholes everyone has one, your not disqualified from that. I find it hilarious the moment women push back against the boys all hell breaks loose. Most games are spewing with toxic masculinity. Games didn't even start letting you choose genders for sometime until recent years. But they are marketed towards males as most gamers are indeed of the male gender. Why does that even have to matter? You have no idea what I do or what my personal life is like. I worked at a game stop for years so it's pretty simple to figure out demographics. The men that came into our store is what people write about online. What is awesome though is I don't care what anyone thinks of me. Your not getting paid to care! It's also the internet so very easy to hide behind a screen. I am happy they decided to keep this as part of the game. It was so different in '97 and very risky for the time. The battlesystem looks horrible though and I hope it doesn't take away from the overall game. I also love its not multiplayer so I don't have to listen to all the idiots blasting their shitty rap music to everyone. Multiplayer games are overrated.
@JoeBlogs
Haha, yeah I know you're tired of it being brought up, sorry. It's a dead horse anyway.
@IsolationQueen
I have no clue what you're going on about, but I hope you find the help you desperately need. You're carrying around way too much anger towards males.
EDIT: Also, you're way wrong about the gender choice thing. Games have been allowing you to choose your gender for decades. I'm getting the feeling you don't actually play very many video games and simply want to troll or whatever you're trying to do. Gender choice dates back as far as The Sims. Games like Harvest Moon have allowed you to choose genders as well, though for some time it was a choice locked to a specific version of the game. Various RPGs such as Soul Nomad, Legend of Mana, pretty much every Pokemon after Crystal, etc have allowed you to choose a female and those date as far back as PS2 and PS1. I'm sure if given time I could go much further back. Some games focus a purely female lead character such as Burning Force, Metroid, Parasite Eve, Shantae, Mighty Switch Force, etc.
I like gender choice in games but not every game needs it. The idea that every game should have gender choice is simply insane. Many games focus on delivering a specific narrative which would be impossible with gender choice. You're just being silly.
@IsolationQueen I’m a guy, do I suck?!
Meh don't expect any SJW changes, Japan doesn't cater to those pathetic people, who don't even play video games, or read comics. Tifa's boob reduction is not an appeasement to them, or else she would have more clothing on, and probably look a bit manish, as they do not like attractive females. Her change fits better with the look of the game... She isnt SD anymore, and things look a bit more serious, even a bit more than Advent Children.
I have watched anime, and played games with cross dressing being in it.. Not a big deal. Cloud also looks a bit pretty, being he is a bishonen type character, like most of the main males in FF, so him being picked out of the other males to dress up, aint a big deal, this whole thing isnt even a thing, and the only people who will bitch and moan in the end, when the final product comes out, are the pathetic loser SJW types... Who werent and didn't buy the game in the first place.
Living a life being outraged, and offended at every little thing, is a sad existence. People are also sick of these loons now.. They are cultural Marxist, fascistic, totalitarians, and pearl clutching Puritans all rolled up into one.
Ok guys enough is enough next person who derails this thread, says something inappropriate or anything else that breaks the rules will get a ban from the site I am not playing around here.
Consider this your warning
Thanks for understanding

Dude, what are you doing? Posting pics/gifs of yourself on an anonymous comment section is a no-no 🙊
Creepy things happen. Uncomfortable things happen. Changing or taking them out of fiction makes the story less realistic, not more.
I feel like some people what to pretend things don't exist. But burying your head in the sand doesn't change anything. It just leaves you unable to deal with situations when you don't have a choice.
That's not becoming "desensitized" it's becomes mature.
Welp, I've found this scene to be cringy as hell. I don't agree with Sony being censorship happy recently. But in this case. Oh God please do it!
@Gamer83 Is your problem more that people are criticizing content in games or that devs are adjusting content based on criticism?
@turntSNACO
The latter because no matter what a game creator makes somebody is going to find a problem with something. I'd rather see devs put out what was originally intended. Like the new Modern Warfare for example, there's already cries for censoring or removing certain scenes because 'it's uncomfortable.'
Times like these make me really wonder what type of sheltered up bringing some people had. There was never, ever anything cringy or inappropriate about this scene or Tifas body for that matter. Lara Croft was far more worse in that regard. This scene was meant to be funny and nothing else. Not disrespectful to anyone with half a brain. And need I remind you these aren't real people, they're a bunch of computer generated pixels on your screen. Why is it so hard for some people to just enjoy a game and story without going into social justice warrior mode? You're not making the world a better place.
@Ammurphy612
Somewhere along the way people forgot how to laugh and just have fun. These days if a game doesn't have the political message somebody (especially 'journalists') want, they go on a tirade. They, and many Western devs have lost sight of what video games used to be about. That's what I love about the games Sega's Yakuza team puts out. It's clear they enjoy what they're working on and they know what used to make video games tick. Those games certainly have serious moments in the story but in between all of that you just run around the city and do crazy stuff and it's an absolute blast.
