They were by far two of the biggest moments of a lacklustre E3 2019, and it looks like social media agrees with us. Exclusively revealed to Hollywood Reporter, Keanu Reeves' appearance at Microsoft's press conference and Final Fantasy VII Remake's gameplay presentation were two of the biggest conversation drivers across Twitter during the show.
While Nintendo's E3 Direct topped the bill, Cyberpunk 2077's unveiling of Johnny Silverhand came in a close second while Cloud Strife's stage appearance claimed the bronze medal. The big N managed to win over Twitter though with the likes of a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for Switch, and release dates for hotly anticipated games.

As good as cyberpunk looks final fantasy 7 remake is going to be generation defining all over again
FF7 Remake and Cyberpunk were honestly the only games I even remember from E3. I haven't looked at Nintendo's stuff yet, but after those two I basically tuned out.
One of my work colleagues has breath of the wild.
Absolutely horrendous Halatosis. I avoid talking to him.
Gotta give it to Square-Enix, if it wasn't for them this E3 would have been lame.
@themcnoisy hahaha
@DerMeister Nintendo showed nothing of note bar a very brief Zelda reveal, didn't even show metroid
@QualityGeezer Ninty fans sure are active on social media. It doesn't matter if content is strong.
Nintendo's Direct was one of the best E3 presentations ever. I was really impressed.
The entire Cyberpunk segment was disappointing. Cinematic trailer, followed by Keanu Reeves coming out and hijacking the crowd's attention away from the game itself. Based on gameplay footage and trailers, I've not seen anything so far that would make me go out and buy this instead of just digging into the much cheaper Deus Ex games.
S-E is doing a good job on FFVII Remake. I already have the deluxe edition preordered.
@naruball I abandoned Nintendo a long time ago, I respect they still have an audience but I've grown out of it
@QualityGeezer same here. I gave 3ds a chance some time ago, but it felt samey after all these years (played Pokemon Y and a Mario Game).
@Neolit @naruball i appreciate nintendo has a loyal following but for me they lost me on the wii
Nintendo had a good show, a good amount of stuff I’m looking forward to the Switch. Not trying to start a war here of course.
Nintendo fan boy since the SNES/GB, I own a Switch and a PS4 (I couldn't just pick one) and I am hyped for upcoming games on both consoles. I just need to find a way to stop time so I can clear my backlog before all those games come out.
Pokemon kinda dominates social media too, but with more disappointment then excitement.
the legend.bill and Ted excellent adventures.keanu Reeves.word up son
Nintendo absolutely stole the show for me, very little I didn’t care about in their presentation honestly. Banjo in Smash is also a very big deal to me.
@QualityGeezer I have tried on many occasions to give Nintendo games a shot but for whatever reason I just don't enjoy them. Mario Odyssey for example, I found it boring with bad controls & camera.
@DarthAmmii Mario Odyssey bad controls and camera? Crikey, that's some statement. To me it was one of the most joyful experiences I've had this generation.
@ShaiHulud He sempt to move too fast too late for me, and the camera was just finicky in my opinion. But even going back to World and 64, which I have a few times, they just have bad controls for me. Super Meat Boy has perfect controls for what that game is.
But did those games need E3? Nope. Would everybody still be talking about Keanu if this was just a live stream? Yep.
People need to temper their expectations about FF7's remake. The game is overblown in people's collective memory as this unshakable, timeless masterpiece. And while it was an amazing game for its time, the remake will never match that sort of impact that FF7 had. Even if it turns out really awesome, it just isn't going to have that same sort of impact because it is still just a remake.
Also I don't remember the last time I saw Reeves in a role that was interesting. If ever. But that's just a personal opinion.
And yes, Nintendo absolutely dominated this year. There is no comparison at all. Don't care what social media has to say. None of the other companies, present or not, had anything or real significance to announce, while Nintendo had several huge release dates, game announcements, and hotly anticipated DLC.
Nintendo did show alot of good stuff. Some new announcements , lots of games back to back and all them with actual gameplay. I understand that these might not be of someone's particular interest but you can't deny the fact that they had a robust E3 presentation.
I see ppl saying that SE "saved" E3 and i cringe. All that based on the hype that is FFVII. A game that, now matter how good it turns out to be(and it looks good tbh), SE has announced that will charge full(!) price just for it's first part.
And Avengers ofc. A game that they revealed alongside it's release date but didn't show any actual gameplay and we still don't know what the hell this game is all about exactly. Dunno, and i hope i'm wrong, but i'm getting a lot of Anthem vibes from this one.
@NintendoFan4Lyf I try not to write down my backlog. I would probably scare me to death. I bought my PS4 less than a year ago so I still have a mountain of games to play on that system alone and I keep purchasing Switch games from my wishlist when they are on sales. Although I am trying to be good and only play one game per system (but not that good since I dusted off my 3DS recently)
