Update: This video has been released by PlayStation Japan in celebration of the 20th anniversary, but there are no hints to a new title at all. Meanwhile, the new Twitter account has promoted the updated website as well as a pop-up shop that will be selling "special items". It's nice to see PlayStation celebrating its franchise, but we're starting to think this isn't what everyone is hoping for.

Original story: We told you to watch this space back in April, and it looks like something might be on the horizon for fans of the long-dormant Ape Escape franchise. A new Twitter account has been set up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the franchise, and its first tweet is most definitely an interesting one. Check it out below.

The tweet roughly translates as "It's been 20 years since then. I have been running/escaping this whole time, but I wonder if anyone is even still chasing me anymore?" At face value, this could have been taken as a post simply honouring the 20 years of the franchise, but here's where things get interesting.

The profile is followed by the official account of Sony Japan Studio and prominent developers there. Of course, these sorts of industry folk wouldn't follow a brand new Twitter account out of the blue for a laugh, right? We reckon there really is something going on here.

Are we getting our hopes up too much? Deflate our anticipation in the comments below.
