4. Project CARS 2

Project CARS 2Project CARS 2
Publisher: Bandai Namco / Developer: Slightly Mad Studios
Release Date: 22nd Sep 2017 (USA) / 22nd Sep 2017 (UK/EU)

It’s the unrivalled variety that separates Project CARS 2 from the rest of the pack. While it’s rarely as fully-featured as titles dedicated to their respective disciplines, this stuffed sequel’s ability to segue from rally to IndyCar to go-karts with ease is impressive. The fact that you can also mix-and-match everything makes for a highly customisable racer with a dizzying degree of diversity.

Publisher: Codemasters / Developer: Codemasters
Release Date: 26th Feb 2019 (USA) / 26th Feb 2019 (UK/EU)

Building on the brilliant hardcore experience introduced in the first DiRT Rally, the sequel is another tough but excellent sim racer from Codemasters. The handling is unforgiving at first, but it's wonderfully gratifying to master, and the sensation of driving at insane speeds through treacherous rally routes is thrilling. The inclusion of Rallycross adds some variety to the mix, and a few small refinements to the gameplay make this an essential purchase for rally fans.

2. DriveClub

DriveClubDriveClub
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment / Developer: Evolution Studios
Release Date: 7th Oct 2014 (USA) / 10th Oct 2014 (UK/EU)

The story of DriveClub is fascinating. It took some time, but it eventually grew from a botched launch title into a cracking racing game stuffed with content. The presentation remains impressive years later, and the “simcade” handling is a great balance that provides enough of a challenge but doesn’t alienate more casual petrolheads. Throw in the Bikes expansion, the brilliant social features, and one of the most generous season passes available, and you've got one stonking racer that almost tops our list.
