With the next generation of consoles just around the corner (well, almost), developers are, naturally, eager to show off what can be done with more powerful hardware. And so we have this impressive glimpse at what next-gen hair could look like thanks to EA. Running on its Frostbite engine, this is the kind of thing that would cripple frame rates on lower-end PCs, but gosh darn it sure is pretty.
Granted, the mannequin is a bit creepy, but this is way beyond what we've become accustomed to when it comes to hair in video games. Who knows, in a few years time, we might see this tech breathing life into the incredible characters of ANTHEM 2.
What do you make of this hairy situation? Give your bonce a wash in the comments section below.

Aloy's Hair already looks great in horizon zero dawn and i can see Guerrilla Games doing a better job for Horizon 2 on ps5
Hairstyle simulator. I'm sure EA can whip up something around it with lootboxes.
I still remember Tomb Raider running at 60FPS until I set Lara's hair to ultra... Everything dropped to 20FPS and the GPU fan started running at high speed. I bet this would set it on fire or make it explode.
Gorgeous! This gives me hope that maybe, just maybe we might see some decent hairstyles in the next Dragon Age.
Anthem 2? 😂 the first one wasn't suffering enough?
Anyway this tech is pretty cool! Hair and clothes are the things that need improvement next gen
That's pretty impressive.
@AFCC I think Studios like Naughty Dog are already doing great things with both of those areas
looks like Taylor Swift hair.haha.totaly Swift.word up son
Too bad they're still not gonna put out any good games, so this is really unimpressive all things considered.
But it won't, because it never does. It's easy to get that fidelity in a controlled tech demo with little else going on, but in a full game world with so much else going on, it's rarely achievable.
Besides which, if we do see that kind of detail, it won't be from EA. They still haven't got their skin tones right, and their characters always look like waxworks.
Now, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, etc... they'll be the ones pushing this kind of detail.
Cool how they showed it off with the Andromeda face models...
Very nice. Bet it doesn’t load in 0.72 seconds though.
Pay extra for dandruff trololol ea.
That is mind bogglingly amazing.
Aloy's hair was really good in HZD. I think that's why she never kept her head still whilst talking, to show off those lovely flowing ginger locks.
Frostbite can do graphics, but not much else unfortunately
Cool. Frostbite still sucks though.
Of course, but this is a high end PC, and it's pretty much the only thing they are rendering. So I don't think we'll see this kind of quality in actual next gen games. Looks good though.
Hair's working! Now how do I get a dialogue tree working in frostbite? -Making of next BioWare game
Frostbite
Allowing wooden mannequins to be beautiful since 2008.
I would rather have a well written game that is fun to play, rather than a pretty game with fabulous hair. Please put more effort into designing good gameplay than putting lipstick on a pig (or flowing locks on a mannequin).
I once had to make the choice between Geralt with crap hair at 60fps or Geralt with his incredible flowing locks at 58fps. No brainer.
@nessisonett I bet you turned it off and played a decent game instead, right? RIGHT?!
@kyleforrester87 Yeah, I fired up Bloodborne and then realised I’d rather eat a bowl of turds. Or play Dark Souls 2, it’s pretty much the same thing.
what about next gen horse testicles
Woah thats awesome! But Capcom will still use bananas for hair lol
@Areus you still can't see a character getting dressed/undressed in full or even hair that animates properly! But yeah I agree that ND is doing good things...they are the best in immersion.
I'll give that hair a 6/10.
(PS standards)
