It's a tactic that Microsoft has found great success in during previous E3 conferences, but it looks like Sony is once again stepping up its act when it comes to first-party acquisition. At last night's investor meeting, Jim Ryan stated that PlayStation is planning on investing in its line-up of first-party studios "through organic growth and acquisitions" as the PlayStation 5 inches closer to release.
Rather than purchasing active developers, Sony has traditionally opened studios in the past - growing its first party library organically. This news indicates that this will continue, while sprinkling in a couple of purchases along the way. The last major studio that Sony purchased was Sucker Punch way back in 2011, which had kicked off the successful inFAMOUS franchise two years prior and is now working on the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima. First-party is clearly a huge success for Sony, having just announced that God of War has passed 10 million in its lifetime sales. Incredibly impressive stuff.
Is there a developer you have in mind that Sony should purchase? Whip out your wallets in the comments below.

Phil Fish, get him working on Fez 2 again. Come on Sony you know I want it.
buy Square Enix and get them back on track
and Insomniac Games too
Def insomniac and I wouldn’t mind someone like bluepoint and if we are really dreaming from software or Kojima lol
Realistic:
-Kojima Productions
-Bluepoint
-Insomniac
Fanboy wish list:
-Take 2
-Square Enix
-Sega
-Konami
-Nintendo
@Fight_Sora_Fight good luck buying Take2
can not wait to see some of the first party stuff on PS5 I think Bluepoint games would be a good one & Kojima Productions as well.
@Fight_Sora_Fight Then instead of spending the money on games you spend them on old ip's. You only line the investors pockets. I rather see them work like they always did.
As others have already said, Insomniac, and I’d personally add Remedy as well.
@pimpjuice Why waste all that money anyway on a few IP's better use that money too make some good stuff yourself.
I think it will be great if sony acquire insomniacs games for ps5 and psvr games, and bluepoint games for remastering sony classic games.
@Fight_Sora_Fight Nintendo. 😂
Dream: Nintendo decides to focus on software and work with Sony so I can keep playing the Nintendo games I love without having to buy the Nintendo hardware I tolerate at best, and actively loathe at worst.
Realistic: Insomniac. They make sweet games and have a good relationship with Sony.
buy remedy games asbo studio..atlus. io interactive.imsomiac games.make it happen Sony.word up son
@playstation1995 my friend the folks at Micrish*t are buying IO interactive, serch it up.....
@pimpjuice that's a rumor.i hope it's not true.hitman is a great franchise.word up son
Growth we knew theyve been busy expending the studios but 'acquisitionS' is really nteresting they mention that.
Ctrl C, Ctrl V Naughty Dog.
Why don't they buy some Japanese Studios
Sony should buy out Push Square Games. I've heard their upcoming game, Snacks On A Train, is one to watch.
I'd be happy for them to continue expanding their already excellent studios so that they can work on more than 1 title at once. Naughty Dog are pretty much already at that stage with Gorilla in the process too.
I personally think as long as they can release 2 or 3 quality titles a year, that would be enough.
1. Sega
2. Sega
3. Sega
Get them and let them develop for a new portable system...
Also, the studio behind Firewall, Insomniac and a studio that specializes in arcade racing...
Maybe Three Fields Entertainment (Dangerous Driving)???
I’d hate to see Insomniac get gobbled up by a competitor like Ninja Theory was. Of all the Microsoft acquisitions, that was the only one I cared about.
Following the formula that Sony does they should aquire.
Kojima Productions
Supermassive Games
Dontnod Games
BioWare
Ready at Dawn
Insomniac
Bluepoint
Bungie
HouseMarque
Atlus
Sega.
My picks;
Kojima
Insomniac
Bluepoint
Drinkbox
Housemarque
Level-5
ReadyatDawn
FromSoftware
Futurlabs
... Capcom (I wish)
@LightingThor why would anyone want modern Bioware?
@Fight_Sora_Fight insomniac has gone on record many times stating they want to be independent so it won't happen. i think bluepoint is very likely and should have already happened by now in my opinion... they are the best remaster studio out there and earned their worth after the shadow of the colossus remake. kojima productions... that one seems a bit iffy but i can totally see it happening. might depend on how well death stranding does for sony, though.
@viciousarcanum Still a big studio with great experience on RPGs if someone can get them on a straight path again it’s Sony.
@Fight_Sora_Fight hah doubt Sony could afford Nintendo with a $41B market cap... would be interesting though that’s for sure!
Would be great if they bought insomniac and kojima though! Also a shame they didn’t keep evolution open and expanded on that team...
Insomniac
Bluepoint
Housemarque
These look realistic.
Realistic acquisitions in my opinion would kojima productions, Ready at Dawn and Bluepoint. Insomniac is pretty proud of their independence and I dont think that will change anytime soon.
Insomniac is the one that needs to be bought. Well aware of what Ted Price has said but Sony needs to find a way to change his mind. Just like Playground made sense for MS, Insomniac makes sense and is a perfect fit for Sony. Quantic Dream would also be a nice fit but eventhough Detroit was a success it seems something happened there with the relationship between Sony and QD.
Other than those two studios, the focus should be on adding smaller dev teams that could be helped by the backing of a company like Sony. Dontnod has made some great stuff that has decent appeal. Io Interactive is another and a darkhorse is Asobo. A Plague Tale: Innocence (now that I've completed it I can say I strong disagree with the lesser review the game received here) is a great narrative driven game and if that's the direction the team is going in the future it fits in very well in the PS ecosystem.
Capcom! And put more $ into streetfighter so it can shine again
Top Picks:
Insomniac Games
FromSoftware
BluePoint Games
Kojima Productions
Team Ico
I wouldn't want them to buy a company that makes more money without them i.e. Platinum Games, Insomniac. If those companies want to stay independent, it should remain as that.
My picks, however:
I'd place Kojima Productions here, but that won't happen.
