PS5 PlayStation 5 1

Sony surprisingly announced the official existence of the PlayStation 5 today, outlining various details about the next-gen console. And tucked away in Wired’s article is confirmation that developers already have access to the device – and that the company is ramping up the deployment of devkits in order to ensure that studios are well adjusted to the unit come launch.

This means that both first-party and third-party teams should have plenty of time to explore new features such as ray tracing and 3D audio, resulting in a better slate of launch titles. Of course, while we already know a lot about the system, there’s plenty that the company’s keeping underwraps – what will its controller be like, for example?

It’s going to be an incredibly exciting 18 months, folks.
