It’s that time of the generation where we start hearing about next-gen titles, and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum certainly sounds like it’ll launch on the PlayStation 5. A new partnership between publisher Daedalic Entertainment and Middle-earth Enterprises, the narrative-driven action adventure will be the first of a long-running partnership, and will launch on 2021 on “all relevant console platforms at that time”. Make of that what you will.
“We tell Gollum's story from a perspective never seen before, in any storytelling medium, all the while staying true to the legendary books of J.R.R. Tolkien,” explained Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann. “At a time when the games industry is undergoing structural changes and seeing new business models evolve, we are excited to realize a huge new production based on a story that has stayed fresh and relevant for more than 60 years.”
There’s very little additional information at this point in time, presumably because the project is such a long way off. There’s potential for something great here, though, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one for sure.

very happy to already see some support for SP games on the ps5.
Way out of left field. Staying tuned. I personally would like to see The Book of Lost Tales Vol 1 and 2 turned into an episodic game series.
I don’t know how I feel i about this. Maybe it’s going to be similar to Styx an have some type of stealth gameplay. Rather have Melkor origins story but even that ,can be very difficult to translate on a game.

Gollum seems like a weird choice to base a game on, but we'll just have to wait and see what this game is like.
They should make a Lord of the Rings game based on me.
Could be cross gen. I doubt the PS4's support will stop when the PS5 releases. The PS3 was still getting a lot of good third party games up to two years after the PS4's release.

it does say on "all relevant console platforms at that time" so this could be made for next gen but with the ps4 in mind aswell considering that it could still be relevant in 2021.
altough all that can change though especially if they have to delay this game in the future.
As long as it has Andy Serkis it’ll be great. Without that voice, it just wouldn’t be the same.

I'm a huge fan of The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings and especially Gollum so this news really excites me.
This will be utter garbage. Nobody wants this.
