Even before you hop into the game itself, No Man's Sky has been on quite the journey, hasn't it? It's had more ups and downs than a department store elevator, going from overwhelming hype before release to disappointment at launch. Hello Games' ongoing project has been improved immensely since it arrived in 2016, and it seems to be continuing that trend.
Sean Murray took to the PlayStation Blog today to announce Beyond, the next expansion coming to NMS later in the year. Apparently, the free add-on will include three big updates all rolled into one. The first of these is No Man's Sky Online, a "radical new social and multiplayer experience which empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together." With last year's NEXT update, the team finally brought multiplayer to the game, and this sounds like an evolution of the concept.
There will be more to learn about Beyond as we get closer to its release, but it's already being described as the game's "most ambitious chapter so far," so we should be in for a treat. Are you excited to have some new experiences with No Man's Sky? Are you still playing Hello Games' divisive sci-fi adventure? Travel at warp speed in the comments below.

Started playing Starlink Atlas on the Switch with my son last night, was surprised just how much it reminded me of NMS, only there is an entire game in Starlink. Enjoying it way more than I thought. Two player co-op on the couch with my son helps.
I really enjoyed what No Man's Sky used to be...
So, about that VR mode...
I played NMS after the last update but it seemed a lot more complicated and more grindy than before. I enjoyed its simplicity when it first came out.
@rjejr Two player co-op games never go out of style
Absolutely incredible support. The fact that it's free is very generous.
NMS is one of them games I love coming back to between games. So I'm looking forward to this update.
@KALofKRYPTON A joke?
@nessisonett
No, it was fine - it was as I'd expected it to be.
There was an amount of deserved flak shot Murray's way (meeting another player) - but every time that was talked up (not by Murray) he downplayed it and tried to insinuate it was very improbable.
Other than that - people just seemed unduly butt-hurt because the game didn't make you a cup of tea when you woke up in the morning.
@KALofKRYPTON I’m not sure, we literally had an entire news report advertising the game on the BBC because Hello Games were from the UK. There was definitely overhyping from the fans but Murray knew what he was doing.
@nessisonett I honestly think Murray got swept up in the PR machine and was under pressure to make the game out to be something that it wasn't.
Every time I saw him interviewed, he just wanted to talk about the maths behind the world and the technicality of the game. He always seemed earnest.
@KALofKRYPTON Totally agree with you about Murray. I had watched and read tons of his interviews and when the game released it was exactly what I expected for it to be.
Just one question before I buy it: does it finally have a satisfying endgame?
I haven't touched this game since it put me to sleep shortly after it launched. I've heard it has received numerous updates since. Should I give it another chance?
