The ANTHEM VIP Demo is a lot smoother than it was when it launched yesterday, but that's only because you can actually make it past the title screen now. Most of the time, anyway.
Yep, the demo's still plagued by connectivity issues and load screens that simply never end, forcing you to quit out of the application and try again. It goes without saying that potential players across the web aren't exactly happy, and at this point, it's fair to dub the demo a mess.
In hindsight, calling it a 'VIP Demo' was probably a bad move. It's a name that's conjured expectations of an actual demo -- something that actually works -- when it reality, this is a beta with obvious technical issues that need ironed out.
Let's just hope that the game's launch next month goes a lot smoother than this.

VIP - Very Inconsistent Play Demo, I don’t get the confusion to be honest.
How is it generally once you are in, though?
@kyleforrester87 Still a mess, but with potential.
Cant say i didnt expect this but i just hope EA and Bioware get this fixed. For Biowares sake
Now that's how you make people feel very important.
Many thanks to endless load screens - WTF?
Oooohhh still a mess for many COMA thanks to endless...
@rjejr Someone didn't go to headline writing school I see
How am I supposed to be even slightly excited about this game when it’s less than a month away from launch and the beta/demo doesn’t even work? Gone gold my arse, think they should reconsider that.
Lol no online only game EVER goes gold.
I wonder how many preorders have now been cancelled because of this debacle. EA surely had an idea how many keys were given out so it's not like an open beta where countless millions can try. When will they learn that if they're going to do a demo, it must work!! It's the first impression of the game for many. Mediocre.
I’ve an interest in Anthem, but my lord I’d be seriously annoyed if I’d preordered and was experiencing this mess.
@ShogunRok story of my life
I've only had a few issues. Nothing near as bad as many are reporting. Hope they can get everything sorted before next week's demo
@ShogunRok I was out sick that day. 😎
I just showed it to my wife, who has an M.A. (Masters of Arts degree) from NYU (New York University, a generally well regarded private school) in Creative Writing, and unprompted from me she said - "That's a run on sentence, it needs a comma somewhere." So there. 😝
Eh, at least they know about problems from the demo. But we all know there is no way this thing is releasing without controversy.
When it works, the game is fantastic! It's so frustrating with all the technical faults though. I don't get why there is such a massive issue when the alpha client ran faultlessly.
The game is very fun. Once in, there were occasional glitches, but I didn't get any frame rate drops. I had to quit though as my gaming time is limited and got tired of looking at a loading screen.
Yes it has its flaws...ok alot of them but its a demo I wasn't expecting much. Once you get over the congestion issues and the need to restart the game for the load screen loop, its a fun game that me and 3 of my friends had a blast playing and basically said 'good bye' to Destiny XD
I enjoyed the ONE mission it let me play in two days of trying.
Been trying to do a mission since i first booted it...no success! Over 24 hours and still didnt get to my first mission. Infinite loading screen everytime i try to play the expedition. What a mess! Cancelled my pre order. Bring on The Division 2!
I have the endless loading screen, but I’ve found once it gets to that point, if I close the game and start it back up it loads pretty quick most times. It’s frustrating, but it works. The only other big glitch I’ve hit was unlocking my new javalin suit, I hit level 12, got the coin, but once I returned to Fort Tarsis I was back at level 11. Again, it was frustrating, but not game breaking. The beta is a bit of a mess, but the gameplay has me excited for the release regardless.
I was all set to pre order on amazon this morning. Was just waiting to get hands on and see it first hand.
Got my friend code and logged in, walked round the tower area, jumped in a suit, and... That's it.
A whole day (on and off) spent trying to even do the first mission and see how it plays.... Never even made it passed the loading screen.
Sorry, but you get one chance to impress (especially with the price of games these days).
I'm definitely out for launch day.
If my friends are still playing after a few weeks then I may jump in, but this has killed any excitement I had going for anthem
RIP Bioware, game play in the demo was fine, more like an upgraded Andromeda but the story, oh boy, straight trash.
Working well for me today, was unplayable yesterday, but much better today, still small amount of screen tear, bit overall good.
@Gamer4Lyfe
Gameplay was fine? Wish I could find out!
I'm one of the few who completed andromeda, and enjoyed it for what it was. I like the clunkiness of mass effect as long as the powers and combos are in there. Give me choice.
Everything I've seen looks good on paper, but it's worth nothing if you can't even play.
We're weeks from release, and this was billed as a demo, not a server test.
I expected to be looking at teams, loadout, etc to find the depth that might keep me addicted, like Destiny has for the last few years. Massively disappointed so far.
@rjejr It takes at least 20 comments on the spelling/grammar before they consider changing it, at least that's the standard over at NL
@Gamer4Lyfe so you determined the entire quality of the story from just the demo lol. Not saying it's going to be great but seems like a bit of a reach to even say with just a demo don't you think?
@redd214 If that demo is a snippet of what to expect in the full release then yes, the quality is well below what I expect from Biowares A team. Combat is good, won't complain about that but combat has never been why I play Bioware games.
@DeWiz Sorry to hear you can't get on, yea its a shambles, feel sorry for those that are genuinely excited and want to get on and play.
@Gamer4Lyfe you do realize they left out any of the story in this demo on purpose right? They said that before it even launched. I played all the missions and there was dialogue related directly to the missions. It also started in the middle of the game. I did enjoy the game and am excited to play it. I will wait a few days after release to see if they iron out the server issues.
every single time I saw a loading screen (except the one between map zones) I have to close the game and restart.... and first time I played the second mission, the final boss was invisible for me, kept being thrashed by it without even seeing it....
Gameplay is very enjoyable though...
@rjejr Weird flex but ok
@RawnDawn @RedMageLanakyn I don't expect them to change anything, just messing around w/ Shogun.
@arnoldlayne83 well maybe he has cloaking ability! That would make for some tough boss fights. Alot easier for developers doing enemy design also....
I’m one of the lucky few with barely any issues in the demo. I put probably around 14 hours into the demo and had a blast.
It appears to be connected partly to the region and also potentially to ISPs. I’m in Japan and I also heard nothing bad from Australians so far. In the 14 hours, I had only 2 crashes and 2 infinite loading issues. Other than that, everything else was very stable for me and I highly enjoyed it.
I just wonder how many are there that have issues vs. have no issues at all.
Always online baby. 😁
The loading screen issues are awful. I've had to close and reopen the application dozens of times at this point, the worst being six times in a row, due to not being able to load past 95% before or after a mission.
Despite that though, I'm in love with the gameplay, and have had a super fun time playing the interceptor with an SMG and an explosive sniper rifle. There's a bunch of different weapons and abilities to choose from, and finding the ones that suit you best while experimenting in freeplay or missions is really enjoyable.
Most of all, the flying and movement abilities feel fantastic, in combat and exploring. Trying to master everything the javelins have to offer while in the hard mode stronghold is something I've easily been able to spend hours and hours on, and look forward to spending more time on in the following public demo and official release.
I had some technical issues. Some enemies glitching, some synch issues and some infinite loading screens, but when the game worked, I had a blast, especially with a friend. Very much looking forward to the full game!
I can understand the frustration of those having too many problems to actually play and enjoy the demo, but I'd rather this demo and the one next weekend is used as a last stress test for the servers to iron out any issues before the game goes live.
I have no doubt the technical issues will be resolved in time, so I'm sure this game will scratch my Destiny itch.
game is a bit of a trainwreck, în my opinion.
I love the game and it has got me hyped for the launch. The demo has been a mess but I know I will love this game. Can not wait for the launch.
The 1 mission and about 20 minutes of free play I’ve managed (in around 12 hours of trying) have been very good. I really have enjoyed what little I’ve been able to play.
The demo is an absolute debacle though.
