It feels like RAGE 2 hasn't exactly set the gaming world on fire, but it is starting to sound a little more interesting than we first thought. The title, being co-developed by id Software and Avalanche Studios, is Game Informer's latest cover story, and in the above video, several of the publication's staff discuss the game's improvisational combat.

In addition to some standard and more unusual weapons, your character also has access to several special abilities that can complement each other in interesting ways. Shatter is basically an exaggerated melee attack that sends enemies flying, and you can also perform a ground slam that sends baddies into the air. You can send out a barrier that's impervious to enemy fire and will also kill any threats who pass through it, and the Vortex grenade sucks bad guys and objects towards it, black hole style. It seems that by combining these abilities with each other, as well as your weapons, you'll be able to pull off some pretty creative kills.

It's likened to Bulletstorm, in that it encourages experimentation and fun when you're up against a group of thugs. Another game thrown into the mix is DOOM, because there's a need to keep moving using various dodges and jumps in order to stay alive. It sounds like it could be highly entertaining -- whether or not the open world itself will hold our attention is another thing.

We'll obviously have to wait and see, but what do you think of RAGE 2 so far? Are you excited to give it a shot in May? Shoot to thrill in the comments below.
