Wow, this came out of nowhere. Ubisoft has revealed that a new Far Cry game will be announced tomorrow at The Game Awards 2018... And it's got a post-apocalyptic setting?
No, you read that right -- there's gonna be a new Far Cry game that takes place, going by the teaser trailer, after a nuclear apocalypse. We don't know how much of it we'll see at The Game Awards, but this could be pretty cool.
Okay, we'll admit it Geoff -- we're hyped.

Ubisoft about to eat Rage 2's lunch.
@ShogunRok And probably eat Fallout's lunch too
Maybe a sequel to 5?
@ShogunRok
My money is on Rage 2 being the better game but we'll see!
I’ll play that.
That was quick.
Kill animals, destroy bases, save the day.
Interesting.
I'm tired of post-apocalypses, honestly. Unless this is a radically new spin on the concept, I'm probably out.
"The uploader has not made this video available in your country."
And I thought we were past all that colony revolution stuff...
Should be called " far cry from fallout 76" 😊
I'd like to see Hammock return to do the soundtrack. They'd be perfect for the setting.
Hmm, announced so soon after Far Cry 5's release... I wonder if we'll be seeing the first true wave of for real cross-gen games.
@HungryWolf Ubisoft to Bethesda: "Hey wanna see a trick? Hold my beer..."
Hmmm interesting
Ubisoft is the new Activision. Pumping out sequels every year. Is dont like anything they do anymore. At least with Acti they are trying different things with Crash and Spyro.
@Manboi16 You deserve way more ♥️'s.
@Giygas_95 😂 thankyou
imagine ubisoft making a better fallout style game then bethesda
although maybe not that difficult given the recent stuff bethesda has been doing.
This will probably be another Blood Dragon/Primal type game. Also funny that they basically spoiled one of the premieres.
Another open-world Ubisoft game. Hoo-ray. (sarcasm)
Far Cry: Guarma
I’ll stick to Rage 2, Far Cry 5 launched earlier this March, why the rush to announce it so soon?
@Badboyfx86 AC retires from the annual release format only for far cry to take it over
@jdv95 It sure looks like it 😉
I really don’t like far cry’s gameplay. Looking more for rage 2 especially with the mad max team behind it
@jly1987 i hope this game won't take away the spotlight of rage 2.
Far Cry 76, the hit new online-only Far Cry spinoff from Ubisoft.
@Deadlyblack would not be suprised at all tbh.
@LieutenantFatman Same here
Move over fallout lol. If this game has a mutant enemy, rpg system, and a good story I think it's the end for bethesda fallout, unless bethesda can give us something really special (like oblivion back then).
This seems like taking opportunity of atrocious fallout 76 launch. Maybe this will be something smaller like far cry primal?
@LieutenantFatman Rage 2 will definitely be the better game, all of the recent Far Cry games feel the same to me and I got bored of 5 long before the end of it
I don't understand. Why is it so surprising?
(SPOILER ALERT)
After the way Far Cry 5 ended I don't see how a game set after a nuclear apocalypse would be so difficult to believe. I actually expected it, it seemed kind of weird to set up and end a game that way without some kind of future payoff. Mind you, I was thinking more in the line of a DLC or an expansion of some sort. A whole new game based on the concept is certainly interesting, but in no way did it came out of nowhere. Not after Far Cry 5 ... Maybe it's even a direct sequel, even if it doesn't follow the same character
@jdv95 And yet, we can't even get a new Splinter Cell game.
Looks like a sequel to the excellent Far Cry 5....
@Nerdfather1 let's hope that is still a thing.
would be awsome if it got announced tomorrow, but i don't know if the awards allow multible big reveals from the same developer.
@carlos82
Agreed, I was bored by the trailers tbh. All that copy and pasting, it's far too repetitive. Even the narrative lacks imagination, you can easily guess how things will play out from the start.
Good news. Far Cry 5 and the free arcade mode is my 2018 goty. So i am hyped as i anticipate more Far Cry fun in a new game..
Still hoping for more blood dragon.
Oooohhhhhh SHNIKIES!!!!!!!! This is EXTREMELY exciting!
I was just thinking about how its a PERFECT opportunity to swoop in and fill in the gap that fallout76 made. Much like fortnite did to pubg. Someone seriously needs to capitalize on this! And this could be it.
ffs.. why can't ubi just let far cry lie? if they want to make a post-apocalyptic game, can't they think of anything new, other than slapping it into far cry?
@carlos82 - FC4 was one far cry too many for me.. i got bored before the half way point. rage was a decent game, apart from the fact it had no ending, the game just kind of stopped. the fact that rage 2 is going open world with more emphasis on the vehicles/vehicle combat is a bit of a turn off for me.. if it's something like borderlands that'd be fine, but i'll have to see how much of the vehicle stuff impacts the game. couldn't stand arkham knight because of the batmobile being crowbarred into it excessively. i didn't get more than a few hours in on that either.
@DanM I was thinking the same thing.
Looking forward to seeing more of whatever it is.
@leucocyte it did have a bit of a Borderlands look to it so far and I never played the first to be honest. I think I'm just bored with open worlds in general and more so Ubisoft ones which all feel very samey. I get your point about Arkham Knight and I much preferred Asylum over it. Give me a well designed linear game or just an intricate but smaller space over an open world any day much like the upcoming Resident Evil 2 remake.
Funny thing is so many games boast about being 60 or 80 hours long but in reality I tend to spend much more time playing a much shorter game overall as it has far higher replay value for me
that is: a good fallout
@jly1987 mad max is such a great game
@wiiware RPG mechanics would be great, just like AC Odyssey
@BAMozzy or a spin off, just like fc primal
@paulo_godoy_BR Possibly - but have you played and finished Far Cry 5? If not, do so and then decide if you think a spin-off is more likely or not. I am not saying it can't be a spin-off but to me, a sequel looks more likely.
That would be a surprise of course as Far Cry hasn't tended to do 'direct' sequels....
@BAMozzy I not played FC5 yet... But you must have your arguments to say that, so I believe in you
@BAMozzy I've been thinking the exact same thing. In fact, from the visuals and the wording of the voice-over, I'd be more surprised if it wasn't a direct sequel.
Hooray! Ubisoft catches two birds with one stone and gives us what we really needed and wanted: another yearly open world game and a new post-apocalyptic game, all in one! Such originality!
@clvr Its incredibly difficult to come up with anything exceptionally original. You could argue that Ghost of Tsushima isn't original - an open world game with 'swords' as the main combat weapon - OK so the setting of Tsushima and the more grounded in reality backdrop sets it apart from games like Witcher, the latest AC games or Skyrim. Apocalyptic worlds, historical settings, fantasy settings, Zombies/infected enemy types, Aliens, Sci-fi, First and 3rd person, open world/linear, shooter, stealth or more melee based combat, RPG's or not, etc etc - I could go on but the point is, its probably been done before with over 40yrs of gaming and 100's of games releasing every year. Chances are, you can take any game releasing and it will have some factor that isn't original - especially if you take such a broad aspect like setting. Cyberpunk isn't original as 'cyberpunk' has been done before, Ghost of Tsushima isn't original as Samurai's have been done before, Death Stranding isn't original as Sci-fi has been done before, H:ZD isn't original as post apocalyptic settings have been done before...
@BAMozzy I do agree that we don’t know how it will play, and that it’ll be the execution of said concept to make or break the game; on the other hand, though, I don’t expect it to reinvent the post-apocalyptic open world game simply because of Ubisoft’s by-the-numbers approach to open world games.
Of course I’d like to be proven wrong, I hope tomorrow we’ll find out.
Edit: regarding the last part of your comment, I’d like to point out that it’s the execution of such a broad concept as “sci-fi” or “high fantasy” that will make a game more or less original and memorable.
For example, the Shin Megami Tensei games tend to be set in post-apocalyptic worlds, but the presence of demons and gods and the gameplay mechanics make it a lot different from, say, Fallout 3, which is another game set in a post-apocalyptic world.
And though I haven’t played it (unfortunately), I find Horizon: Zero Dawn to be wildly inventive and a lot more interesting than most post-apocalyptic games simply because its world has a distinct, memorable personality.
@clvr Far Cry 5 was a good game - whether its 'wholly' original or not isn't the point. As long as it is fun and works as expected, then does it matter if its 'by the numbers'. Even games like Battlefield which are pretty formulaic, by the numbers FPS with tried and tested mechanics and general structure, especially as a long running franchise is hardly 'original' but still different from CoD. Whether you change the setting to be more Sci-fi like Halo or Killzone and/or change 'soldiers' to Aliens, maybe even go for a more Horror setting and change Soldiers to Zombies, monsters or demons like Metro for example - another FPS in a post-apocalyptic setting - it doesn't make it 'original' on a fundamental level. Your Aliens may be 'unique' in look or your 'Zombies' may not be 'zombies' but some other 'infected' human with a different aesthetic or cause of outbreak, but that still doesn't make it entirely original.
The point I was making though is that if you want to be broad about something, like Post-apocalyptic setting, open world, FPS, hack n slash, 1st or 3rd person, enemy types, Sci-fi/horror/fantasy, etc etc everything has been done before. Spider-Man follows an Ubisoft PS3 era open world formula too with towers to open up the map and show Points of interest, collectibles etc, bases to clear, mundane side quests etc yet people love it - even the combat and swinging isn't particularly new either a its most fundamental level.
H:ZD isn't that original either in a lot of ways. The open world is quite 'generic' in its structure - you have the snowy region, the 'green' region, the desert like region. Bow type combat isn't new to killing giant enemies. Towers aren't new - even if there is a bit more of a challenge climbing then than most and that they move in a predictable circuit compared to more static towers but the basic principal is the same. The RPG mechanics are very rudimentary and story is quite linear too. If you want to look at things from a rudimentary perspective, anything can lack originality. I loved H:ZD but you could almost call it a bit Turok or Dino Crises without 'guns' and swapping 'Dino's for Robot dino's instead.
Whether Far Cry appeals or not, its still a franchise and most will expect 'certain' elements that Far Cry games are known for. Moving to a Post-apocalyptic setting can add something unique to it - like the weaponry for example and more crafting - maybe not 'original' but could be 'new' to the franchise. Far Cry is not a new IP so its less likely to be entirely 'new' too. Even new IP's aren't entirely new - whether that's in the setting, the genre, the game-play etc etc. They will all have some fundamental aspect that has been done before...
@BAMozzy as I said, I know and I agree that (obviously) these things have been done before, but I also remarked that, to me at least, originality stems from how said concept is implemented into the game.
On a basic level, Family Guy is just the same as The Simpsons (and it acknowledges that), but the way the show is written around that basic premise is totally different, and makes for a show that is not just a clone of The Simpsons, but instead has its own personality and style.
Far Cry -7 For PS5 way better than ps4 games see ya .
