The latest Japanese charts are in, and the one new entry worth talking about is Dragon Quest Builders 2. Square Enix's sequel entered the software charts in fourth place with 110,000 copies, and the PlayStation 4 version of the game beat out the Switch version by around 13,000 copies. A respectable total, but the PS4 edition alone couldn't budge Nintendo's triple whammy of Smash Bros., Mario Party, and Pokemon.
On the hardware side of things, Sony's current-gen console maintained its momentum from the previous week, shifting a further 75,000 units across both the standard and Pro models. Now we'll have to wait and see how quickly these numbers drop.

Ouch. Poor Super Neptunia...
I love that the vita is out doing the xbone
@SoulsBourne128 I genuinely don't know how some of these franchises survive.
The only thing I like about Japanese sales is, that the Vita gets the love it deserves.
@get2sammyb Same can be said with Compile's other released games. It really seems that Compile is running out of steam.
@Lando_ *some love.
No games charting and its sales are behind those of 3ds, despite the latter selling way more over the years. Still, much better than the West.
@get2sammyb they survive because those sorts of sales are -fine- for a lot of them. They're generally made on the cheap by small dev teams over short development cycles, to the point that only selling a couple of thousand copies makes most of them profitable.
It's also why so many of them get localised - when they're already making a profit, western sales, as long as they cover the cost of paying translators and distributors, are just bonus money for the Japanese parent company. Doesn't matter how they chart, or if they chart, as long as the same few thousand people keep buying.
I don't think it matters if one can't beat Smash. PS4 has a lot of momentum globally, which matters more than just one region. All in all, gaming in general is looking healthy. Looking forward to next year.
