We're now heading into the Christmas period proper, and so the Japanese charts are going to make for some pretty predictable reading over the next few weeks. The only PlayStation 4 release that's really worth mentioning this time around is Battlefield V, which continues on from its strong debut by selling an additional 20,000 units on Sony's system. It now sits at a respectable 131,000 copies.
PS4 hardware numbers saw a slight decline, however, with the standard PS4 and PS4 Pro dropping off by a total of 3500 units or so. Still, it's interesting to see the Pro doing better than the cheaper model right now.

@munkondi Black Ops 4 is an outlier, though — not many games, especially Western ones, sell anywhere near that in Japan.
Battlefield V's done decently for what it is.
Wow, the Japanese are going crazy for the Switch. I know, where I could sell mine for sure. :>
Switch needs to be relevant somewhere...
@PS_Nation What makes you think it's not? Doing way better than what the Xbox One did(globally) in the same time frame? I know this is a PlayStation website, but let's be honest here, what you and a few others have been saying how Switch is doomed or irrelevant is based on bias.
EDIT: Not trying to start anything. I just being real with you. This is coming from a PlayStation AND a Nintendo fan.
I'll check out BFV at some point. A WW2 shooter would be nice to dive into again.
@Slasher Not necessarily. The switch doesn't get some of the biggest games like Red Dead and GTA so in some discussions, it is pretty irrelevant. It offers something considerably different.
@naruball Well of course it's irrelevant to mention the Switch when it's not getting those games. What PS_Nation is talking about is the matter of the product selling.
@ShogunRok "Still, it's interesting to see the Pro doing better than the cheaper model right now."
Has the Pro ever outsold the Slim in Japan outside of maybe it's launch week? I can't recall Pro ever being above Slim in Japan.
@EVIL-C I appreciate the sentiment. It's not the matter of winning an argument. Just pointing out facts. ^_^ Oh and trust me, it's not just this site that does this. Our sister site(Nintendo life), plus a few other Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and even PC related fan sites have this as well.
@rjejr I believe it has outsold the standard model since then, but only once or twice. I think there was a price drop not long ago that pushed it ahead.
@Slasher Yeah no problem, and I appreciate your appreciation.
Indeed, the opposite is absolutely true as well!
Not surprised considering its been sold in Parts. Miss the days when games were sold as a whole unit lol. I may pick it up end of next year lol
@ShogunRok "price drop"
That'll usually do the trick. While I was waiting for a Wii U price drop the Wii U dropped off the list. 🤣
You think KH3 will push PS4 sales up in Japan next month or is that more a western game at this point? I can't imagine Days Gone will do much over there. I may add KH3 to my "wait for the 4k PS5 remaster" list along with Spiderman while I catch up with the back log. I'm still trying to finish DQXI by Christmas but those 5 damn seamen just won't die.
@rjejr I don't actually know about Kingdom Hearts in Japan. I don't think it's a huge heavy hitter but I'm sure it does moderately well. Guess we'll find out soon enough.
@ShogunRok it is a heavy hitter it is very popular in Japan. I don’t think it’ll be a Dragon Quest or MHW but it will up PS4 sales (temporarily)
@Lando_ when you selling yours?
@EVIL-C That's enough with the insults. If you cannot reply to someone without insulting then I suggest you don't reply to them. I don't want to have to give you a vacation from the site.
@PS_Nation Next time I suggest you let it go and ignore the insult. Replying and engaging them to coerce them into insulting you is just as bad insulting them. Use the ignore button next time.
@ShogunRok well one issue could be that there's some heavy discrimination against mature western games going on in Japan. You'll notice that most of the mature western games get a CERO Z rating in Japan which means they have to go into a separate section in a retail store, on PSN you can only buy them with a credit card (not your PSN wallet) and they can't be advertised. You'll also notice that most mature japanese games get a CERO D rating instead, which prevents all of these issues.
@Derpie1 Nah, I'm not selling it. My hopes for a good Bayonetta 3 are too high. But that's the only reason I'm keeping it. Oh, and playing Pokemon Let's Go with my younger cousin. Sadly, we are finding the most funny aspect of the game in it's not-so-good-and-accurate Pokeball usage. He always makes fun of me, when I miss the throws. :-/
@Lando_ presses F for respect
