Nothing was ever going to stop the new Pokemon games from securing their second week at the top of the Japanese charts, but surprisingly, Battlefield V gave it a decent shot. DICE's bombastic shooter managed to move a respectable 110,000 copies on PlayStation 4, placing it second in the software charts.
Just behind it in third place is the comically named Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories with 43,000 copies, and following up in fourth is Shenmue I & II with 38,000 copies. It's been a reasonably good week for new PS4 releases, then.
What's more, for the first time in a while, Sony's system actually surpassed 20,000 units. The standard PS4 model moved 13,000 units, while the Pro did 11,000 units. Now it's just a question of whether it can sustain those numbers.

Disaster Report: Summer Memories lol. That game sounds brilliantly all over the place.
Wow Battlefield V did well. That's probably more than it sold in the UK.
i say what i said last week the Japanese have really poor tastes.
cant believe fallout 76 is ahead of red dead!!
there is a home for for broken buggy games with missing content and its called Japan!
And still 100k Switch sales without a mayor release after Pokèmon. When Smash hits the shelves, sales will explode once again it seems. Half a million maybe? O_o
I could be wrong but didn't Shenmue 1&2 come out in Japan a few months ago with lower numbers that this weeks limited edition version? Does anyone know what's so special about this one that it's sold better than at launch. I'm glad anyways. Love the Shenmue games.
@MadAussieBloke Lol what on earth!!!
@Dange Maybe there's used underwear included. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I hope BFV is any good man...at least so I don't feel sad there wasn't any other full price game I really wanted...
@suikoden um RDR sold more than twice as much as fallout...how is that being ahead?
@MadAussieBloke It's quite sad that games like this are forced to have fanservice just so they can sell decently in Japan.
@manu0
Fallout is number 6 and red dead is number 15, so it is ahead it that respect and that was the point of my post, I wouldn't be surprised if it outsells red dead in Japan as it looks like it could from its position last two.weeks
No Spyro Reignited Trilogy? An interesting thought: What if Battlefield 5 is a WW2 game where you play as the Americans fighting the Japanese in the Pacific campaign? Will the game sell in Japan?
Nice to see Western games doing well in Japan.
@naruball Its a pity the bad games sell well.
@Flaming_Kaiser Many who've played BF say it's great, so...
@get2sammyb - i reckon BF5 has sold around 100k in the UK (BF1 sold 260k launch, so with a 63% drop..), so yeah it would be more. BF1 sold 114,000 in japan at launch, so it's stayed pretty consistent there, possibly a lot of the western 'controversies' about the game have passed the japanese by. i'm expecting it to get a significant price drop in the UK before christmas though if it doesn't pick up its slack.
@Lando_ believe it or not
The Japanese don’t have a big crazy thing for Fighting games while yes Smash will sell... the Japanese are very VERY selective. It won’t increase Switch sales too intensely much. It will keep it from going back to its usual 30-50K a week however... at least til January... where the next game to make Switch explode in Japan is Fire Emblem. Although until then PlayStation May enjoy a big sales bump thanks to this niche small game from a small dev and publisher it’s called Kingdom Hearts 3 from ya know this niche company who makes wierd JRPGs called Square Enix...
(Obviously joking about the small stuff there but it will increase PlayStation 4 sales... for a while)
It is so strange that we see Xbox one's sales numbers only from Japan because Microsoft so wants everything to appear okay. I played the demo for Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories and liked it. I didn't know about the other features.
@suikoden
Dude, Red Dead is at 196K total since released and will likely hit 200K next week. I don't think Fallout 76 will ever catch up with its total 85K sales and only 11K sold this week.
Let's watch the insults. -Tasuki-
