Last year, a rumour was circulating that Avalanche Software (of Disney Infinity fame) has been working hard on a fully fledged Harry Potter RPG for Warner Bros. This is something we've always thought was a good idea, as it's a world that lines up pretty perfectly with a roleplaying game. The latest development in this rumour is the above video, uploaded yesterday.

It looks to us like a reveal trailer for a Harry Potter RPG, but as is the case with these things, the video is shot at a dodgy angle and is of poor quality. However, it looks pretty legit to us. The way the video is cut, the music, all the detail -- if this is a hoax, it's a pretty amazing one.

Accompanying the video is a blurb on the game. "Set in the 19th Century (1800's) Wizarding World, this 3rd person open-world action RPG game centers around your character with unique abilities who has eared a late acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You are a newly arrived 5th year student to Hogwarts that demonstrates a latent gift for magic with a unique ability to track and identify remnants of a pottant ancient power."

It continues: "Upon arrival, strange events begin to materialize In the Forbidden Forrest and trouble begins o brew within the castle walls. Together with Professor Elezar Fig, you embark on a journey through both familiar and never before seen locations to bring to light the truth behind these mysterious occurrences.

"On your quest you will craft potions, master new spells, and discover fantastical beasts. You will battle Dark Wizards, Goblins, and other supernatural enemies and uncover the truth about your destiny - the Fate of the Wizarding World lies in your hands."

Allegedly, the game is set to feature character creation, a flexible magic system, and a freely explorable Hogwarts. You'll also be able to choose your house and make friends with other students, and enjoy an all new story. While it sounds pretty good, and that video seems real, we'd still take this all with a pinch of salt for now, especially as that description is littered with errors. It's possible that Warner Bros. is gearing up to make an announcement, but until official word is out, we wouldn't get too excited.

Update: Warner Bros has pulled the video, suggesting that it's not an elaborate fake.
