Marvel’s Spider-Man has thumped Far Cry 5’s record and swung away with the fastest-selling game of the year so far accolade in the UK. The early results for Sony’s behemoth PlayStation 4 exclusive are in, and they paint a pretty picture, as the game almost doubled God of War’s week one British tally – which was no slouch itself.
To make matters even more impressive, the title is the fastest-selling Marvel game ever, beating out previous frontrunner LEGO Marvel Super Heroes by a significant margin. It’s not the fastest-selling superhero game ever (that plaudit remains with the multiformat Batman: Arkham Knight) but it is the fastest-selling individual format release since the PS4 version of Call of Duty: WWII last year.
In fact, this was a ridiculously good week for PlayStation, as fellow exclusive Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age finished in second position. Destiny 2: Forsaken, the other big new release, ended up in eighth – although it’s worth noting that the UK charts currently don’t incorporate digital data, which is presumably where the expansion secured the majority of its sales.
What about that Spider-Man, though, eh? Can it outpace God of War globally? The battle of the exclusives is on.
