Shadow of the Tomb Raider's Media Onslaught Continues with Sweet Murder

Gawd dam this game looks good!!! I think I may come to my senses and get this instead of SNK Heroines after all, lol. I'll even skip Rise of the Tomb Raider so I can get straight to those sweet, sweet jungles...

@keihtg @get2sammyb wouldn't you be missing out on the continuity of this trilogy by skipping any of the earlier games? Or are they pretty much self-contained storylines?

@NintendoFan4Lyf asking questions and using real-world logic takes more pixel-pushing power and memory than the current-gen systems are capable of, I'm afraid

@Turismo4GT Personally, playing games in order is something I've always obsessively done, and it's caused two things: A) burnout on a game series, so that by the time I get to the new one I wanted to play, I'm sick of the gameplay, and B) it taking so much time or money to play all the previous games that I just put it off indefinitely. I'm trying to change my ways!

Then again, I already own Rise of the Tomb Raider so I should actually be more responsible with my backlog and finish that first, lol. But....THOSE JUNGLES!

@Turismo4GT This is the third of a trilogy charting Lara Croft's origins. Whilst the first reboot (2013) is somewhat standalone, there are characters and threads that return in Rise of the Tomb Raider to be built upon and greatly expanded. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a direct sequel to Rise and the conclusion of the trilogy's narrative arc.

That being said, I'm pretty sure everything casual players need to know will be covered in expositional dialogue, like all ongoing franchises (games, films, television shows, etc.) do nowadays. "Hey Lara, remember the time we did this thing?" "Yeah, but this worse!" And suchforth.

@Turismo4GT I think you'd really miss out on Lara's character growth, plus some really fun games!

@keihtg I know how you feel. I've been on the Uncharted series for what seems like forever. I never had a PS3 so I'm experiencing them for the first time on PS4. Between work, family responsibilities and... well, work, I've only made it to halfway through Uncharted 3 since I bought my PS4 in 2015. They've been thoroughly enjoyable games for the times I've had to play, but I've held off on purchasing UC4 and UC:LL until the Nathan Drake Collection is done and dusted.

@RogerRoger If they release these games as a packaged trilogy next year (which I'm 90% certain will happen) I'll buy it. It would be my first Tomb Raider experience since PS1!

@Turismo4GT If I may make a suggestion, and if you still have a functioning console from the previous generation, seek out the Tomb Raider Trilogy on PS3 (or the individual games on Xbox360). Legend, Anniversary and Underworld are stunning adventures with an excellent narrative woven throughout, but much more in-keeping with the tone and style of the original PSone era. I highly, highly recommend them (and hope that they'll someday come to PS4 or a future console generation, for ease of access).

Welcome back to the franchise! You'll be glad to know, tank controls have been long gone for a while.
