Capcom really is on a roll right now, isn't it? The Japanese publisher has just gone and dropped a bombshell out of nowhere that the classic PS2 title Onimusha: Warlords is getting an HD remaster for PS4, and will release on 15th January next year.
The re-release will bring with it HD upgrades for characters, environment, and cinematics, the fixed camera angles have been widened to allow for a better view of locations, and the ability to control samurai Samanosuke Akechi with the analogue stick has been added.
"Weβre excited to bring Onimusha: Warlords to PS4 after the seriesβ popularity on PS2, so sharpen those swords and be prepared to set foot in a land of samurai and demons. Thereβs also a new soundtrack inspired by feudal Japan that enhances the immersion even further."
Onimusha: Warlords is set to release on PS4 on 15th January 2019 for Β£15.99/$19.99. It will be available as a digital title in the US and Europe, but a physical release is exclusive to America.
Are you as excited as we are about the return of Onimusha? Slice some demons in the comments below.

The return of CAPGOD?
What a time to be alive.
Your learning Capcom, your learning well right now.
So to recap what's been happening the past year with Japanese games:
Capcom revitalizes Resident Evil, Mega Man and DMC while remastering Okami and Onimusha. And Monster Hunter becomes a big success in the west.
Sega finally finds a western audience for Yakuza while rereleasing 3, 4 and 5. Brings back Shenmue and Streets of Rage, while getting a great Sonic game at long last.
PlatinumGames save themselves with Nier Automata and are now making Bayonetta 3.
Arika risk everything to bring Fighting EX Layer back.
Bandai Namco give Soul Calibur one more go while supporting companies like DOTNOD and SuperMassive.
Arc SystemWorks turn Dragon Ball into a kick ass fighter.
And Square Enix are finally bringing Kingdom Hearts 3 this year.
If anyone ever remotely think that Japanese games are irrelevant then they want to take a harder look.
I sense Onimusha 5

@playstation1995 holy sheeeeeeeet! OMG, onimusha? but hey, why no physical release in europe?
Brilliant news! Hopefully this means they're considering coming back to the series properly with an all-new title.
@huyi dragon dogma 2.make it happen also capcom.word up son
Count me in. Nice price too !
@huyi Because Capcom + Europe. I'm used to this by now.
Holy crap!! So happy to see Onimusha returning
@huyi. i dont know why no europe physical copies.but glad i live in new york.word up son
@Knuckles-Fajita they always seem to give us the short end of the stick, bah!
@huyi They do. Doubly so if you own a Switch which is digital only regardless. Meh.
As I said, this lands right after my birthday so...
Sweet Onimusha! I raise my glasses to you guys.
early next year is packed for sure man, res evil 2, devil may cry V and now this.
@Knuckles-Fajita i don't even buy capcom switch games due to this, i buy it on other platforms, i might have to import, i imported all the resident evil remasters on ps4 so.
The most excellent of exceptionally excellent news π€©
Cashing in on Ghost of Tsushima hype? Japan is all the rage these days, eh.
Yeeeessssss
nah, Capcom's testing the waters right now. Just like what they did with the DMC collection earlier this year. I hope for an Onimusha 5 reveal on PSX (forgot about that PS lineup tour, TGS, PGW Hoping for a reveal in at least on of these events). Capcom pretty pls, let me get my samurai groove back on.
YES YES YES YES about time why hopefully the trilogy will come and they remaster that awesome awesome CGI beginning of O3
So so happy. Hope this does weell enought to bring 2 and, in particular, 3 across - and then we get a proper sequel in the near future
Brilliant news! Cant wait to get stuck in.
Never played the originals (and always wanted to), so this is great news!
@adf86 "Your learning Capcom, your learning well right now."
Please tell me this was intentional.
Cool. This is one of those titles I never got round to playing, given how enormous the PS2 library was. I've always thought it looked interesting so it will be good to finally play it!
@LiamCroft I've never played any of the Onimusha games before, can I just jump straight into this title and be fine?
@adf86 I agree with everything you said, except have you forgotten KH3 has been delayed to January 2019?
That doesn't count as "this year" .

wait... so just the first game? wth capcom. wouldn't it make sense to put out all 4 games on a single disc? if you expect to milk people by rolling these out separately, that is a sleazy move indeed. i won't be picking this up until there is a collection.
@Knuckles-Fajita that is the beauty of region free, though. nothing stopping people in other regions from getting the u.s. release. that said, i am surprised nobody else has a problem with this single release... where is the collection?
@KidBoruto This is the first game in the series, so you'd be completely fine!
I never played this series back in the day. Guess Iβll start now.
@naruball Of course
@KidBoruto Damn I forgot that. Was trying to think of a feelgood story involving Square Enix and that was the best I could think of and now that doesn't count lol
Wow slow down 2019, you're still far away but already killing my wallet
I hope capcom can make a new onimusha with takeshi kaneshiro and jean reno as a main character like onimusha 3
Again not retail in Europe why Capcom why. π€¬
Maybe ill try playasia then.
I don't I'll ever find the time to finish my backlog of games π
Digital only in Europe is a slight disappointment, but I can just import it. It's not like there'll be any DLC for this game.
@playstation1995
Yeah I was surprised to see that. It seems like we usually get screwed over on physical over here in the USA these days. I'm definitely picking that up.
That's great news!
Too bad they couldn't remaster the whole Trilogy, isn't that how these things usually work?
I'd rather pay $39 for a Trilogy, than $20 for first game only.
The 4th game, Dawn of Dreams, could have been DLC or just a download game.
Such a good series, this isgreat news! Hopefully they are testing the waters for a brand new sequal!
I just brought Onimisha 1-4 last week for ps2 for 20$... Really!?
Always use to see it in store shelves and always wondered what this was like. This was back when I was a Nintendo only gamer and Youtube wasn't a thing. Never saw any game play until now. Great to hear it's coming back, as I'm finally going to experience it
@adf86 So true!
@SegaBlueSky Dont think so since they busy with other stuff
@LiamCroft Oh that's a relief, thanks for confirmation.
@adf86 You might want to edit/update your original comment so people don't get their hopes up thinking KH3 is still coming in 2018.
Yes!!
