Yesterday, the internet discovered that the PlayStation Store page for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice stated "in-game purchases optional", which naturally led to somewhat of an uproar. Despite the fact that none of FromSoftware's games have featured microtransactions, and that the same phrasing has been used for several games that in fact don't support the controversial payment model, fans were worried that the game's publisher, Activision, was enforcing needless extra purchases upon what should be a straightforward, AAA action game.
Fortunately, a representative of Step 3, a PR firm that handles Activision's titles, has stepped forward to put any doubts to rest. Speaking with COG Connected, Wiebke Vallentin said, "There are no plans for microtransactions in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice". They also explained that the wording on the game's PlayStation Store page was the result of "an erroneous tick box" and will be fixed.
So there you have it. This should come as a relief to anyone who was concerned about microtransactions spoiling the latest offering from FromSoftware. Is your faith restored in Sekiro? Were you fussed about the potential inclusion of microtransactions in the first place? Resurrect your pre-order in the comments below.

As expected.
Yeah well that's just what Activision WOULD say isn't it? I am cancelling my pre-order again even though I hadn't reordered after the last time. That will show them.
Awesome. I figured this would happen, but it good to be safe nowadays. Day 1 baby!
I hate this How am I going to get the platinum if it isn't pay to win?
Guess Jim Sterling needs to re-plan next Monday's video.
Though the one he did today kind of hit the nail on the head regarding DLC in fighting games being generally crap.
A bit odd that the PS Store puts IAPs not only on separate store pages, but includes the fact they exist in the middle of the product description. Other stores put them on the main product page, above product specifications, and give you a notice that they exist right by the purchase button for the game.
Still suspect. Professional PR companies working on a multi million (pound?dollar?yen?) release don't make 'tick box mistakes'. This stinks of a battlefront style backtrack to me. Buyer beware.
@CountFunkula78 Konami never released certain games on Virtual Console due to a clerical error with tick boxes...so you never know...
Bloody interns!
Also 'there are no plans for' is not 'there will not be'.
@Knuckles-Fajita
Could well be the case mate, but personally I'll wait and see rather than believe the Mouth of Sauron.
If it was from software saying it, then I'd put my guard down, but Activision said it. They probably just made a new word to replace microtransactions.
But, but ... mah outrage!
The internet is victorious again.
The store is atrocious and sony should take more care, all games should also have demo video. Not just a trailer or even nothing.
@Rudy_Manchego Are preorders like double negatives? If you cancel twice do you actually get the game?
It wasn't so much the microtransactions that have me disinterested as much as the gameplay itself. I don't really like what I saw. The lack of customization options is what really has me turned off.
@NoxAeturnus Hmm good point, maybe I need to cancel 3 times.
By the way, there's probably story DLC coming then. Great news.
I would hope the erroneous tick box is a pre-order bonus now after putting us all through so much unnecessary stress.
Activision and no Micro-transactions......
Yea ok then, we will see. What i will say is this game looks great
@Quintumply "He also explained that ..."
Wiebke is a common name for women, at least in Germany. German gaming sites refer to her as "Kollegin" which is the female version of colleague.
@SMKpaladin Good catch! I'll change the wording.
@LieutenantFatman I'd pay extra for an erroneous tick box, but not for an erroneous box of ticks.
I wasn't that concerned, but I don't pre-order anything anyways, in my mind this will always be a terrible practice.
Pre-orders die twice.
