As you might be able to deduce from the game's name, Team Sonic Racing is all about teamwork. SEGA has released a brand new trailer that drives this point home, focusing on the techniques you and your teammates will be utilising to stay ahead.
Skimboost is a manoeuvre whereby you drive close to a teammate who's struggling to give them a running start back into the race. You can also enter a partner's slipstream and slingshot past them with a speed boost, and you can trade Wisps - power-ups - between cars. Using all these moves will help to fill up a team ultimate meter, which will give everyone on the team a big speed boost.
The game is looking solid, and it'll be interesting to see how effective its team-based racing is when it launches later in the year.

It might be a bit unambitious but personally I just want another good old-fashioned cartoon kart racer. I'm really not sure about this one.
You can tell what gameplay is on PS4 and what isn't in this footage just looking at fidelity, and more obviously, frame rate.
Also, hi Big.
It looks okay, but it's a bit of a shame after the excellent Transformed. Just doesn't look quite on the same level.
@roe I'd bet a relatively-sizeable amount of actual cash that there'll be a "traditional race mode" either buried in the menus at launch, or added in a later patch.
Either that, or the career mode will have a variety of events, of which the main will be "team race" amongst others like KO races, individual races, hot laps and mirror tracks (after all, the career mode of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed was packed with random gameplay types, of which very few were straightforward races, and none of that was advertised ahead of launch).
@RogerRoger I agree. This is Sumo after all. They're never shy with content. They even managed to cram tons of stuff in to Outrun 2006!
I'll l get this. I really love the mechanics of the Sonic racers. It is a shame it's not closer to Transformed in roster terms - but I'm cynical enough to think that Sega will happily dlc every possible character/track they can for £££.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO big the cat!
@KALofKRYPTON Given that we know (or at least, can figure out) the launch roster, there are a few immediately obvious gaps that fans have been asking for since the game was revealed, so I think there'll be one or two DLC packs, for sure.
That being said, there were plans for additional tracks and characters for both All-Stars Racing and Transformed, and yet we only ever got one for the former, and none for the latter. Both games sold extremely well, so it wasn't like there wasn't an audience out there. SEGA are odd when it comes to DLC, so we'll have to wait and see.
@RogerRoger The Outrun stuff was technically dlc for Transformed, even thought it was included in the LE version.
But yeah - I guess it will depend on sales.
