Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown will ham up the PlayStation 4 from 18th January, publisher Bandai Namco has finally confirmed. The game, which has been subject to a series of delays, will be accompanied by new Thrustmaster and Hori flightsticks – both of which will deploy in time for the take-off of the long awaited sequel.

According to a press release, the title will take return to the Usean continent from previous instalments, and will see you part of the Penitentiary Unit – a military force comprising solely of convicted criminals. It sounds cheesy as all hell, and you can get a taste of just how silly this story is going to be courtesy of the new trailer embedded above.

“Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown will feature new weapons and flight controls, allowing for a wider range of tactics, new futuristic super weapons, and planes like the sturdy A-10C Thunderbolt II, as well as multipurpose fighter F-35C and high-performance aircraft Rafale M,” the press release explains. As previously announced, there’ll be PlayStation VR missions in addition to the main campaign.

We genuinely can’t wait for this one, and we reckon Bandai Namco has picked a perfect release date. Check out the trailer embedded above, and let us know if you’ll be taking to the unknown skies in the comments section below.
