Car combat was the Battle Royale of the PSone days in many ways, as publishers all searched for their own answer to Twisted Metal. Only really WipEout remains from that era on PlayStation systems, but GRIP is looking to bring back the battle-infused racing of yore. The game’s latched on to a 6th November release date, and it’s looking pretty likeable in its latest trailer above.

“GRIP will see racers hurtling their way around 22 breath-taking tracks across a variety of hostile and foreign worlds, driving one of 15 armoured cars – some swift and agile, while others are brutish and heavily armored,” the press release reads. “Players must be merciless; deploying a bristling arsenal of 9 outlandish weapons and power-ups.”

The title’s clearly been inspired by Rollcage, which is interesting given that we chatted to some veterans of that series during our Firesprite visit earlier in the year. In fact, Robert Baker – one of the original Rollcage programmers – is part of the GRIP team. What do you reckon? Are you liking the look of this throwback?
