Fictional footballer Alex Hunter’s story will conclude with The Journey: Champions in FIFA 19, with EA Sports confirming that this year’s release will mark the “dramatic finale” of the single player campaign. The star from south-west London will sign for Spanish team Real Madrid over the course of the plot, where he’ll presumably go on to score the winner in the Champions League final. It’ll be interesting to see exactly how Cristiano Ronaldo is utilised, as he recently transferred to Juventus in real-life.
We're also curious whether EA Sports will continue this mode without Alex Hunter, or if it’s done with it entirely. We quite like the Longshot mode in Madden, so there is a place for this content – but the publisher will ultimately have the data on how many people are actually playing it. We can’t imagine it’s cheap to make campaigns like this.

Ronaldo left, maybe Modric will leave too. Hazard and Alex will be the new face of Real Madrid.
I somewhat enjoyed the original Journey in FIFA 17 but have to admit I barely even got started on this year's one. I might go through it soon actually before 19 releases.
The original story was fine but felt a little too forced. I preferred The Longshot story in Madden and am keen to check out that's continuation soon as well.
Won't be playing this then!

Given they reportedly make almost a billion dollars from this game alone, I don't think the cost will be an issue.
@Paranoimia Haha! You really believe that? They could invest the money they put into the Journey into creating new content for Ultimate Team that will make them even more money.
@get2sammyb Sure they could. But then why invest in creating it in the first place? And then continuing it for a second and third year?
@Paranoimia I guess it was marketable for a little while, and now it's run its course. Maybe they'll come up with something different to take its place.
@get2sammyb They could continue it with a new character. I can't say it's something I'd miss if it disappeared, though. I just don't think the cost will be the reason it's dropped... at least not the sole reason.
I didn't play the first part as I hadn't bought FIFA for years before the current game. The second part was... okay, I guess. The voice acting leaves a lot to be desired.
I looked at FUT for about 10 minutes when a mate was trying to get me into it, but it just doesn't interest me. Card games (real or virtual) never have.
Hopefully they will include the previous two chapters in FIFA 19 so you can play through the whole thing in one game.
As for FIFA 20, I wish they turn The Journey into more of a free-flow career mode that isn't as scripted.
