See that trailer we've embedded above? It's the latest promotional video for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which is due out in September. It showcases some lovely looking environments, and it uses music from Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. Wait, what?
No, it's true. As pointed out by RobinGaming over on Twitter, the trailer uses the percussion from a track that appears in Uncharted 2. When you're done watching it, listen to the video below -- it's 'Cornered' from the Uncharted 2 soundtrack, and it plays during some combat encounters. The percussion kicks in at 1 minute and 17 seconds -- the only difference is that it has other instruments layered on top.
Mental, eh? As if the new Tomb Raider games and Uncharted don't get compared enough already, we've now got official marketing material for Tomb Raider using music from Naughty Dog's series.
We have to wonder how this happened -- perhaps it's some sort of sample? Even if that is the case, then it still does Tomb Raider no favours. We guess if you can't beat them, you gotta join them.

Nice work Robin. Lara must be so desperate to hang on to Nate's coattails these days.
Yeah, this is pretty blatant.
It's a love letter!
SotTR composer: that uncharted track is fake!
doing everything it can to be relevant and boost those sales i see.
it's not that tomb raider is not good (it most likely is) but uncharted has been such a game changer that any other game in this genre just feels "weak".
tomb raider might have started this genre but uncharted perfected it in such a way that it even beats the series that started it all.
If you can't beat 'em.. copy 'em?
I just want to say: PAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHAHAH.
The amount of stupidity in this move...
Hmmm, gotta be a sample. I don't see a really big deal. After all, 'composed' doesn't necessarily mean the instrumentals used were live. Game studios use different sound libraries all the time, I reckon.
@Turismo4GT still not a good thing to add in a trailer.
it just comes off as the devs saying "look we are like uncharted".
couple that we the fact that the previous tomb raider games have not been selling that well, and it just smells of desperation.
they meant well, but just a poor marketing move.
@jdv95 if that turns out to be the case, I think you'll see re-uploaded trailer with a completely different soundtrack by this time tomorrow, if not earlier. You know the comment section of that video will be quite savage.
That smelled like Uncharted to me before watching g the comparison.
Anyone remember when Shadow of Mordor stole the parkour movements from Assassin’s Creed 2?
@Jaz007 now that you mention it,all i could think while playing shadow of mordor for the first time was "damn i want a new ac game so bad".
now i don't care about buying ac oddessey at all.. lol
Just shows what the better franchise is tbh
Lol, maybe they outsourced the work on this trailer to a third party who then cut corners by finding this sample music. Whatever happened, I doubt the creators of SotTR intended to release a trailer with Uncharted music.
And Uncharted borrowed it from the native Tahitian Dance Corp
Uh-oh!
Looks like someone is going to be in the boss's office tomorrow.
And I'd be willing to bet Uncharted 2 is still the better game.
Mind you, the original reboot game borrowed so heavily from various Uncharted's for certain areas/scenes that I felt I'd played half the game before.
Yeah, the percussion instruments used seem to sound the same, and both tracks appears to be of the same composition...but is this something, or is this nothing? I mean, a whole load of songs from a genre use a similar, if not identical percussive arrangement, because it’s part and parcel of that genre’s feel and vibe. Dunno 🤷🏻♂️
Native drummers cross universe.
Uh-oh spaghetti-ohs
Anyway...haven't seen the Shadow of the Tomb Raider trailer here before, and WOW, this game just skyrocketed up on my radar! Those jungles!!!
I think I might dump SNK Heroines and get this come September (if it weren't for the fact that I never finished Rise of the Tomb Raider...probably end up being at the top of my Xmas list instead).
This kind of reminds me of that time the Uncharted 4 trailer used artwork lifted from Assassin's Creed 4 =0p
Either an accident or someone has quite a sense of humor.
So how is TR aping Uncharted? By haven't similar music or by having another company's assets?
Lest we forget....
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2016/02/so_uncharted_4_has_apparently_stolen_some_assassins_creed_artwork
But yeah, come on lara, you can do better than this
It sounds similar because they're songs the SAME composer used for both Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Uncharted 2. Shazam it people. Basic stuff.
@HaythamDrake Mind the language please
@HaythamDrake Except the two games don't have the same composer. Unless you're making a joke in which case it's gone over my head.
how much this can be when ND see SoTR is using Uncharted music? lol
@Amido Watch the language
Maybe this was part of their marketing strategy to attract attention or it's a hint for a Tomb Raider crossover with Uncharted😉
Hahahaha, seriously? Even the music of the trailer is not original. Will wait for this to be offered on PS Plus.
@ShogunRok the track is composed by the same artist, not relating to the game’s composer. I know there’s some nuance to that, but it’s true (straightforward comment, not trying to be condescending).
It's a trailer. People are literally gonna jump at anything it seems. Won't put me off buying it. Not like there's an uncharted game in the pipeline this year...
I will be getting Tomb Raider but that is embarrassing!!!! Why not just use your own music? Laziness if u ask me!!!
Whatevs. All this means is that I'm allowed to sample these drums for the Nathan Raider: Among Shadows game I'm gonna make with Dreams.
@Rob_230 @sikthvash Thanks, guys; was about to post the very same thing, along with a big long paragraph about how marketing is handled by a completely different company than the developers AND publishers, who just dump random stuff on them and ask them to make it look good.
Disappointed by the reactions of many to this "news".
I just want to see an Uncharted and Tomb Raider crossover one day. I'd love to see Sully getting all buddy buddy with Lara.
I have been drinking the uncharted coolade for years need more!
Please naughty dog new uncharted ps5 launch game!
@ApostateMage Ha! I wouldnt be suprised
Go sully!
