At Bethesda's E3 2018 press conference, the publisher confirmed that long-rumoured sci-fi title Starfield is in development. Unfortunately, not much more was shown or said during the event, but studio boss Todd Howard has spilled a little more information taking to Geoff Keighley on the YouTube E3 stream.
According to Howard, we'll see more of Starfield "closer to release". In other words, Bethesda just wanted to make the whole thing official with its teaser trailer and announcement. The next time we see Starfield, its launch will likely not be too far off.
However, as we know, Starfield is being treated as a next-gen title, meaning that it's probably going to appear on the PS5, or whatever Sony's next system turns out to be. As such, it's safe to assume that it'll be a while before we see Starfield in action.
That said, Howard also reveals that the game is in a playable form right now, so it's at least coming together. What's more, he says that it's definitely a single-player-focused game. There may end up being some social aspects to the finished release, but obviously that's just Howard not wanting set too much in stone.

those social aspects can go away for all i care.
no need for them at all in a bethesda RPG.
So another Cyberpunk 2077 situation. Annouced at E3 then not talked about for 5yrs.
After Fallout 76, I am glad this is Single player focused!!
We could see it next E3 for a 'November 2019' release....
@BAMozzy Agreed I'm relieved. Looking forward to hearing more news.
