God of War has set a new PlayStation 4 first-party record by registering a fourth successive week at the summit of the UK sales charts. Sony Santa Monica’s smash hit overcame a 30 per cent dip in physical sales compared to the previous week, which was enough for it to break The Last of Us: Remastered’s record of three consecutive weeks in the driving seat.
The slow nature of the release schedule is certainly playing into the exclusive’s considerable hands, and if it can stave off multiformat titles like Far Cry 5 and FIFA 18, then it could yet survive one more week at number one. Either way, with 3.1 million sales in the bank globally after just three days, it’s clear that Kratos’ return has been a gigantic success story.
Unfortunately, there’s really not a lot else worth mentioning in the remainder of the charts. After a week outside the top ten, Grand Theft Auto V has returned equilibrium to the universe by snatching ninth position back. Destiny 2’s latest expansion also prompted sales of Bungie’s shooter to soar; it secured a rare top ten finish.

It's such a quiet week that God of War has its fourth #1 but Donkey Kong manages to be the first Nintendo title in forever to not immediately collapse.
Did NOTHING release this week? No deals or anything? Oh well.
Next week marks the (THIRD!!!) release of Hyrule Warriors, a poor man's DW (Unless you compare it to 9...) and no doubt that full price port of a port manages to chart somewhere because people are dumb. -.-
But the real thing to watch is Dark Souls the week after. That'll be an interesting one given how much the name has grown since 2011.
Man if it sold 3.1 in its first weekend.... And sold well enough the following three weeks to take top spot... I can only imagine the total sales are 6+ million in a month. Thats my guess but any confirmed numbers after the 3 day mark?
Do we know anything about the digital sales of GoW yet? I'd wager it shifted a fair few there.
I liked God of War, before it was cool to like God of War .

@Splints Nothing confirmed beyond the first three days unfortunately. I imagine it's certainly above 5 million by now. Will likely go on to do 10 million or more when all's said and done.

@get2sammyb 5 to 6 million seems like an easy minimum, but I could be wrong. 10 million lifetime, is also in my opinion, a safe bet. I wonder if a 10% attach rate will satisfy the ignorant naysayers.
@Splints Ignore the idiots who think because the PS4 has sold 80 million units this game should be selling 40 million units. Not only is that virtually unprecedented, but an enormous number of people buy PS4s just to play FIFA or Call of Duty. They don't even know (or care) what God of War is.

Would be nice if GoW was to be knocked off by Detroit but I suspect Dark Souls will end up doing it, thought apparently the recent demo has helped get more people interested in it.
@get2sammyb yep you are right because not everyone has same tastes on games like God of War is not their taste to play. Popular games like The last of us, Uncharted, GTA, Assassin Creed : people don't like those kind of games.. God of War can't be sold 80 millions copies due to PS4 sold 80 millions units for now

@PS4fan I honestly think Spider-Man can do that and more. As much as I love GOW and TLOU there is no denying that Spider-Man has a much greater target audience.

Good on GoW though. To be measured a success by its first month is not a common occurance
@get2sammyb Do any exclusive rated M games sell 40m? I know GTAV did, but Uncharted and Horizon are both T for Teen I think. Though I don't know the rating over there or in Japan but it's still M, there must be a few parents drawing the line. Not that I'm sure it even deserved the M, though I suppose Brok did have a mouth on them, but it didn't seem nearly as violent as previous games in the series. Though I never beat a Valkytie, if he messed them up good afterward they deserved it, I tried 3 and it was awful. 😠

Man this game deserves it, sony 1st party games is on a roll this gen. Next, spiderman and detroid
@rjejr You have to see their attack pattern if you want to beat valkyrie, kratos only has small windows when attacking them (3 or 4 hits max). If kratos attack only do little damage, it mean you have to level up kratos, level 7 should be more than enough to beat valkyrie, except the queen valkyrie.
My equipment to beat them is ivaldi armor full set (the anti mist one), talisman to slow down time, atreus crow move (set arrow to lightning), and spartan rage boulder throwing move.
My strategy is first I slow down time near them, then spartan rage and throw boulder at them (remember to lock-on, sometime you miss though), use atreus crow move (press square for a couple of second) use the hel's touch move near them after the spartan rage is gone (L1 + R1), attack them normally with axe (3-4 times max, more than that they can attack you), and use the jumping axe move (forgot the name, L1 + R2). Usually all this move will take half of the valkyrie health.
Oh and one more thing, you must master axe throwing move (L2 + R1), sometime the valkyrie is floating and doing a huge damage unblockable attack, you have to anticipated this and throw the axe when they're floating, if the axe hits, they will be stunned and you can attack them again.
@wiiware Thanks. I traded in the game yesterday after watching the 40 minute end credits and the cut scene after that. I got to about 2/3rd level 6 and a couple of Valkryie fight attempts I was level 5. I played for about 40 hours - not counting my 30 minute attempt at the Valkryie and 40 minute end credits - and decided I'd seen all there was to see. Game cost me $48 on Amazon and I got $39 at Gamestop for it, I'm not a paid subscriber or I could have gotten more, so it was more than worth the $9 I paid for the 3 weeks I played. I even kept the box in case Gamefly or Redbox sells it used cheap.
Sorry I didn't get to put all those instructions you wrote me to use, guess I should have mentioned I traded the game in yesterday when I commented. Actually I think I did, but then I deleted that part b/c spoilers.

I dreamt of playing God of War last night. It was really good, 10/10. Now I hope the real game is as good.
God of War is the game of the year to this point and in my opinion it's not even close so it's great to see it also getting the commercial acclaim. Figured it would do well but seems to be exceeding expectations.

Well deserved, I was so enthralled by the story that it was being played every morning. Still have to go back and complete all the side-quests...kinda hoping they announce DLC at E3.

Finished the game last week and traded it in for £35 cash at cex. Great game well worth the money. Now bring on dark souls
