There’s been some discussion about Red Dead Redemption 2’s visuals, which have been deemed disappointing by some in the aftermath of this week’s latest trailer. Personally we reckon it’s looking right up there with the very best that the PlayStation 4 has to offer, but we suppose that the muted colour palette and hyper-realistic art style won’t be to all tastes.
Nevertheless, Rockstar has released some new screenshots. Our understanding is that these are based on the standard PS4 version – that’s the build that IGN apparently got to see – so you can probably expect some bells and whistles and a higher resolution on the PS4 Pro. We can’t wait to see more of the sandbox sequel in action.

Looks great except the depth of field settings. Especially the top image and the bottom left image. Hopefully R* offers a dof choice.

@ShogunRok I've just started replaying RDR on the X, even at 4K there is no comparison between these games and a huge upgrade in visuals. This game looks superb but there are some strange people out there these days

Sorry, couldn't contain myself. But in all honesty, let's hope the game will look as good in game. These screenshots might be in-engine, but they're not in game.
@get2sammyb I still wonder why you're still calling it Red Dead Redemption 2, when it's officially named Red Dead Redemption II.
Whoever says this doesn't look good couldn't hit a barn door from ten paces.
i very much doubt that the game will offer more 'Bells and Whistles' on a PS4 Pro - not unless they compromise on resolution to some degree. Games like God of War and H:ZD don't offer anything 'extra' other than just a resolution boost. If the game is 1080p on PS4, then 1440p or less could allow for some 'tweaks' to visual settings.
Not playing the original RDR is probably my biggest gaming sin. Got it on PS3 and everything, just never got round to playing it. Hopefully I'll finish Ni No Kuni soon though and correct that. So at the moment it's hard for me to get too excited about the sequel, but those screens look incredible either way.
This would be the perfect accompaniment to Westworld had it been released a little earlier ^_^
@get2sammyb It looks good.. but it doesnt look like on first glance that RAGE has pushed on very much from the GTA V port to ps4. The lighting model seems to have had the biggest jump imo also shadow quality is greatly improved.. Texture quality hasnt moved much.. which is what people probably notice more than anything.
Im gonna guess thats where people are coming from kinda... Although they must be blind if they cant see the difference from RDR 1.
For an open world game though it still excellent..

I want a Sergio Leone mode where in any gunfight I can basically slow down the action for 10 minutes while focusing just on the eyes and hands of the protagonist with Ennio Morricone music playing loudly.

Looks excellent. And I'll have to use that bow and arrow wherever possible, it'll be just like a Western Horizon Zero Dawn

I am really getting spoiled with graphics! Sony can hold off on the PS5! I'm loving my PS4 Pro still. They have their work ahead of them to improve it enough for day one sales.
Yup. Looks realistic. Although I've never really understood the drive to achieve visual realism in games: if I want to look at photorealistic people, well, I'll just go outside. I value visual styles that can only exist in the world of animation. For that reason, something like Ni no Kuni will always impress me more on a visual level than any of these hyper-realistic, billion dollar blockbusters.
Are people really saying it looks like the first Red Dead Redemption, though? It's a massive, night-and-day visual upgrade.
