God of War has only been out for a week, but it's had numerous updates already. A patch that provides "various bug fixes and improvements" has arrived almost daily since the game's launch last Friday, and here we are with version 1.16 promising yet more polish.
More polish is hardly a bad thing, of course, and each patch has been a pretty small download. Patch 1.16 is just 42MB, so once again, you won't be kept from ruining Revenants and totalling trolls for long. Here's hoping Santa Monica Studio drops that fabled photo mode sometime soon.

Still hoping for a new game plus
Blimey, it's a good job these devs don't work at Bethesda, their heads would explode
In my opinion it's a good sign that they patch the game so often and that the fixes are so small in size. I hate downloading patches that are almost as large as the game itself or even larger.
All these bug fixes and I've not noticed any bugs!
Have noticed already that my pro doesn't sound like a jet engine when sat in the menu now.
@PeterParker It would be interesting to see how a 'new game +' mode would work. After all a lot of the missions are to get the tools and and abilities to progress - like light arrows to open up the realm chamber and chisel too.
If you have these already at the start, then a New Game + makes half the story pointless
@BAMozzy What if instead of new game plus they added in a battle arena or boss rush mode, all the fighting, none of the story? I Always liked those in the DmC games. At least I think that's where I played those 100 level deep towers. Unless it's already in there and unlocked at the end, I just found bifrost bridge last night, long ways to go yet.
"God of War Patch 1.16 Is Here"
I honestly read this title and thought it was going to end w/ "Nah, just kidding". If they are going to do a patch a day - and has anybody else noticed that size of 42MB was the same as yesterday, that's a pattern, they coudl at least figure out a way to make it hapen on it's own, that COPY is way too slow to have it happen every single day.
Isn't the reason the PS4 has a rest mode is so this stuff can install itself over night? My PS3 did that years ago, it was 1 of the bonuses of having PS+, wake up in the morning to a list of game updates over night, set from 3-4AM.
I'm sorry, I know bug fixes are good, but they need to make use of the Rest Mode function of the PS4 and install these behind the scenes. They really do.
@BAMozzy good point maybe just have the armour and abilities we've unlocked throughout would be interesting like you said though
@rjejr they already have arenas - both Muspelheim and Hiflheim are basically just arenas for fighting and at least provide resources for upgrading the 'best' armour.
@PeterParker seems redundant to me - why make the game 'easier' by playing through with fully upgraded gear/weapons - why not replay the game on a different difficulty if they are going to take away basically everything that you unlocked during the game as it was 'part' of the story progression?
i am done with this now while they keep release more patches anytime because i already got Platinum trophy in this game in last two days ago
@BAMozzy it would be interesting to see how it would plan out I'm sure the game director was thinking of adding new game plus but didn't have enough time
@BAMozzy Thanks, and that makes sense. I got to the bridge cut scene last night, about 12 hours in after doing the Dwarven Castle area, Thor island and rescue the spirits first, and my wife and I were both like - OMG 9 realms, this game is going to take me 100 hours!! Then I thought about it and decided a couple of realms were probably just throw away or after game. I'm still thinking 50 hours though. I gotta stop dieing so much. Especially stupid deaths like recalling my axe from those poison sacks while I'm still in the circle, not smart.
@NintendoFan4Lyf God of War is more stable than Switch at this point.
i mean i got that in 2 days ago is Wednesday. i played this in around 55 hours including stupid trials and defeat 9 Valkyries but Final Valkyrie is pretty hard to defeat
@PeterParker I don't think that was ever in the mind at all. The game is not built around that at all. Its not like AC: origins or H:ZD where the weapons and armour are 'generic' but just with higher stats. This is built around acquiring new tools to progress and those tools are strictly acquired through story. If you have all the tools - as you would have after completing the story, then it makes absolutely no sense to have a new game +. You have the option of 4 different difficulty settings to replay the story and then the mission do make sense. Not only that, all the best gear in the game can be crafted and upgraded by grinding in Muspelheim and/or Niflheim - mist, embers etc..
@rjejr If you are only that far in and don't want to read the next bit, I understand. The 9 realms are not ALL available. Jotunheim is very limited too - nothing to actually do there - no enemies at all. Muspelheim and Niflheim are just optional combat arenas for grinding resources to craft/upgrade the best armour. Alfheim is the biggest realm but not that big compared to some regions around Midgard. So you don't go to all 9
So, why couldn't this have just been rolled into one patch? Its seeming evident the stuff they patched initially wasn't that important if people didn't notice anything, and these new ones are incredibly small.
@Quintumply @get2sammyb
Please use the subheading "Patch of the Day" when 1.17 comes out tomorrow.
@Lejenko my God I had the same problem. My girlfriend even noticed that my Pro sounded like it was about to take off.
@BAMozzy I think the best way to handle it is having certain abilities and tools locked behind progress and the rest (runes, power, level, stats, items and combat abilities) available from the start with adjusted difficulty to accommodate the changes.
This is what day 1/week 1 patches should look like. I honestly think they should make a 100MB total limit for patches on a game within the first week or two, to kill the reliance on big ones. After all, nothing like a week or two of bad press because you couldn't rely on a day one patch to put you in your place.
Still would like a Game plus mode.
Is there really any need to have an news article for every update patch released? Especially as they are all for same thing. Just have one when something substantial is done, like a new game mode or something. Just a suggestion like.
@BAMozzy Not reading it, thanks for the spoiler warning, I'll read it in a few weeks.
Great I hope y’all make a new game plus bc once you get everything you don’t have anything to do once you finish the game so I’ll really appreciated if y’all make a new game plus please
1.16 is now done copying.
I thought this article was about 1.15 and the 1.16 was a new one already.
I'm betting next one is 1.20 just to keep us on our toes.
BTW, this was patch number 10, not including the base game 1.0
1.01
1.02
1.03
1.10
1.11
1.12
1.13
1.14
1.15
1.16
Ten. In seven days.
Just installed 1.17, that's 11 in 8 days. Has to be some kind of record for a single player offline game.
Here we are now April 28, 2018 with update 1.17 someone needs to compensate us for all The damn updates/bug fixes! You can polish a turd it’s still a turd! !!!!! What really irks me is I don’t have time to finish a level most of the time because I work so I end up putting it in rest mode!So when I start my system back up here I am looking at yet another update don’t get me wrong it does at least give me the option to updating it or not But if I don’t update it I won’t have access to any of the network features so I end up losing the whole level and having to start it all over again I’d be OK with it if it was just a couple times but that’s not what happened is it? So hell yes I want compensated for it ! And I bet I’m not alone? And do you guys remember when this crap is going on with assassins creed I forget which assassins creed I think it was a unity? They compensated us by giving us a bunch of bonus stuff so that needs to happen here and there is no excuse and it had plenty of time to get the bugs worked out! Because look how long it’s been since it went public at this game was being released!!!!! Also I pre-ordered it from GameStop and I was supposed to Got The pre-order bonus but the code they gave me doesn’t work give me a new one so I got screwed on that !!!
@Krazysuperman Ive played without updating and lost nothing 🤔🤔
@LaNooch1978 "Nonetheless I commend Santa Monica for their post-release support."
I'd commend them more if they would have released the game 1 week later, only 1 week, and had 11 less patches and versions of the game.
Or if they waited and had 1 big patch this weekend, a week after reelase, rather than 1 or more a day for the first 8 days.
Or if these small patches could just install themselves automatically. What's the point of PS4 having a "rest mode" if these don't install while it's resting?
And for such small patches why does the "copy" processes take so long? They should be near instant, not 5 minutes.
Gold doesn't mean what it used to mean.

@SuperSilverback I never said I lost anything except progression! It’s just I’m tired of having to re-do the level all over again!
@neolit Let me ask you a question then? Let’s say you went out and bought a new car and you had to take It in every single day And let them fix something on it wouldn’t that get aggravating? I’m not trying to complain so much but I paid for the game so I should get my moneys worth and I’m sick and tired of all the patches which they should’ve fixed in the first place before releasing it!
