Finally! After months of silence, Square Enix has at last slapped a Western release date on Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. It's even published nine minutes of English gameplay, which we've embedded above for your viewing pleasure.
In short, the game still looks rather good, and we can't wait to get our grubby hands on it. Unfortunately, it won't be launching in early summer as some previous rumours suggested. It's actually releasing on the 4th September, so we've still got a good few months of waiting to go.
What do you think of Dragon Quest XI? Get ready to embark on a grand adventure in the comments section below.

As I predicted, they aren't localising the 3DS Version.
Congrats, DQXI is PC and PS4 only in the West.
Finally!!! But where's the 3ds ver.
OH WOW!
now excuse me while i go change my boxers
Wow that is a nice surprise! Can't wait!
@Bingoboyop It's not being localised. At all.
On that note, they did mention the Switch version....as being a long way off....in Japan. They basically said it's 2019, so 2020 localisation I expect, if at all.
Guess they see where the money is eh?
Then again thinking back I think the only reason all the DS and 3DS games were ever localised was because Nintendo did it themselves...
Yes! I've only played V and IX, but they were both amazing. Can't wait!
No Nintendo localization? Might have to get it for PS4 then or in Japanese then.
Square Enix has said that it won't be localising the 3DS version, so that's that. It has said that there are still plans to bring the Switch version overseas when it's ready, but it's still a "long ways off".
Now that we've got the facts covered, can we keep the comments section about the PlayStation version of the game, please?
Any port begging or Nintendo drama isn't going to be tolerated. If you want to take part in that side of the discussion, please head over to nintendolife.com.
THANKS!
Basically PS4 Console Exclusive I’ll look into it all about timing if I have the money
@ShogunRok So...what happens when you guys port beg? Do you tolerate that?
Either way, this release date is somewhat good. The problem is September is VERY likely to be packed, with CoD and RDR2(3) a month later. It depends very much on what lands on PS4 around that time, and we all know it's the usual sports games.
@ShogunRok
Mmmm The salt is strong "Nintendo does what Sony doesn't"
Word.Down.Daughter

@Miles_Edgeworth you should get VIII, probably one of the best in the entire series and you can get an enhanced port on 3DS or try and hunt down a copy of the PS2 version
@FullbringIchigo Not as far as I know but I'll keep an eye out.
@ShogunRok "The Square Enix Store will also sell an exclusive edition of the PlayStation 4 version of Dragon Quest XI. Details will be announced at a later date."

@FullbringIchigo @YummyHappyPills There we go then, looks like it'll be a SE store exclusive... Which is bound to go down well!
@playstation1995 I honestly wouldn’t go that far... PlayStation ain’t perfect... nor is any company or console perfect.
@YummyHappyPills @ShogunRok OH well looks like the normal edition for me, still i'll get to play the game and that's all that matters really
As much of a JRPG and RPG fan that I am, I've never played a mainline Dragon Quest game, so I'm looking forward to this.
@FullbringIchigo @ShogunRok SE Store exclusive. Didn't they do that with XV and it went down like a fire in a California? XD
Yes! English voice overs. I'm so looking forward to this.
@FullbringIchigo oh yeh i've heard a lot about that one. What makes it so good? Is it the story or the gameplay or a combination of things?
@FullbringIchigo @YummyHappyPills They've done it with a few games if I recall correctly, and I've seen fans get angry over every single one of them.
Day 1, I hope there's steelbook + artbook edition. Or sony email me 20% psn discount code
@playstation1995 Spoken like a true fanboy.
@Miles_Edgeworth it really is a combination, it has a fun battle system, an interesting world, a good story and one of the best cast of Characters in the series
plus Angelo looks like Trunks so that's always a win
@YummyHappyPills @ShogunRok yeah making anything gaming related exclusive to a single retailer or store is bull in my opinion, EVERYONE should the option to buy it no matter where they buy it from
@ShogunRok "Unfortunately, it won't be launching this summer as some previous rumours suggested. It's actually releasing on the 4th September"
Wow, I'm a notorious calendar watcher and I've given Ntineod tons of grief over the years for all of their late releases but September 4th is astronomical summer, June 21 - Sept 23 in 2018. And besides, Labor Day weekend is a big holiday in the US and Labor Day is Monday Sept 3rd and this release the next day Tuesday Sept 4th. Even I'm not that nitpicky to call anyone out for this not being "summer".
You know, I've really been looking forward to this game, but after watching that 8 minutes of English, compared to NNK2 this really looks kind of lame. Really doesn't shine as a PS4 game, I actually considered the possibility that they were finally showing the Switch version, though apparently that's a long way off.
You're a knowledgeable JRPG gamer, how does this look to you after NNK2? Not just graphically, but as a whole. I know Enix has the DQ pedigree but I'm just not feeling it.
@rjejr I don't know, I think it looks really good. I've actually got the Japanese version sitting on my desk — plan on playing some of it and then doing a first impressions article at some point.
I get what you're saying in that Dragon Quest can look... Well, not very exciting, but I find it hard to doubt the series. I just can't see DQXI being a disappointment.
@NinjaWaddleDee best console ever playa.PlayStation is the best since 1995.word up son
@ShogunRok Could just be me. I really like Toriyama - huge DB fan - and DQ8 was awesome on PS2, but this looks a bit too much like DQ8 HD maybe? Great look for it's time, as were some of the other classic JRPG like Chronos Trigger. Guess I'm ready to move on. I'm sure it will be a fine game for what it is, a DQ game, but I think I'd rather play NNK2 or XC2 at this point.
Oh, I also played some of DQ Heroes, got it for my kid for $10, after Hyrule Warriors and wasn't as impressed by that either. Maybe I've just outgrown Toriyama?
Curious about your first impressions, good luck with the Japanese text.
This is definitely worth dusting out the PS4 for, can't wait.
@ShogunRok ''Unfortunately, it won't be launching this summer as some previous rumours suggested. It's actually releasing on the 4th September''
September 4th is summer where I live!
Anyway, it looks good. I'll definitely get this when it comes out.
@ShogunRok Thanks dude, I'm here to talk about PlayStation. You guys are the best site.
This game is day one, it will be my first Dragon Quest, can't wait.
Man I can't wait for this , hopefully that Spiderman release date rumor for the end of September is legit so I can have to time to play both.
@ShogunRok Uh...dude September 4th IS Summer.
At least for all of us in the Northern Hemisphere anyways.
@playstation1995 There's plenty of examples of Sony fan "port-begging". Bayonetta is a fine example.
Finally. Day 1.
@ReanSchwarzer7 @Octane @rjejr All right nerds, I've changed it to "early summer". No need to thank me!
@ShogunRok Now I can sleep peacefully tonight, thank you!
@PS_Nation Same here, DQ has always managed to come out on systems I didn't own, or during unfortunate times. I've never played one before either.
@NintendoFan4Lyf "Nintendo's release schedules"
Yeah, they were pretty good at being one or 2 months off during the Wii U years, whatever "season" they said it was coming out odds are it was the one after that. And that whole "Q" thing, who does that? Of course since Switch launched it's been better, something along the lines of - it's a port of a Wii U game, does the date matter? jk They've gotten better by not saying anything, same as Sony and PS4, they had a rough couple of years w/ delays as well, now they don't say much either. Still preferable to being wrong in my opinion.
@ShogunRok Well yeah, early summer it certainly is not, nice save.
Nice, finally a proper release date, and also official confirmation about English voiceovers!
I look forward to playing this eventually, after I beat VIII first on 3DS.
