THQ Nordic has felt like a bit of a B-team player for a while, re-releasing a lot of its back catalogue and slowly accumulating more and more IPs. It seemed that no one was really paying them much attention, but that may be about to change; the publisher has just made a serious acquisition in the purchase of Koch Media GmbH for €121 million.
Koch Media is a German media conglomerate that markets, distributes, and produces games. This deal includes its publishing label Deep Silver and all of its studios and their games. This means that THQ Nordic now owns Saints Row, Metro, and Dead Island, among others.
It was noted that no restructuring is planned, which will come as some relief to Koch Media's headcount of more than 1100 employees across its international network of offices. Any in-progress development is to continue, which apparently includes new games from Volition and Dambuster, as well as Metro: Exodus.
It certainly seems like THQ Nordic is taking things up a gear. What do you make of this acquisition? Does the publisher now own your favourite series? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Good old Toy Headquarters
Makes sense as they bring themselves back. With a few anticipated IP's, like Metro, it is probably easier to grow via acquisition. I hope they don't bungle it!
This is so weird.
Don't care for any of their games anymore. Only liked the first 2 Saints Row games.
Where are they getting all this money from?!
Hope they aren’t messing around with the Darksiders 3 budget...
Hell of a back catalogue they have now. I sense many remasters.
Presumably that would also include taking on the current Deep Silver game projects: Kingdom Come Deliverance (struggling already) and Shenmue III (promising, but also rumored to be struggling in development). Furthermore, consider their library also includes Mighty No. 9, and Agents of Mayhem and you can see why Koch Media was for sale. THQ probably overpaid honestly.
THQ goes bankrupt.
small group of people go independent and buy the name and some IP’s and continue as THQ nordic.
THQ nordic performs so well they make a lot of money
THQ nordic buys all their old rights back.
As if they never went bankrupt 😂
Ironic isn’t it?
y tho
I'm up for a Saints Row 2 remaster on PS4. Let's have the real Shaundi back.
Probably can’t get WWE back.
Hm, THQ have lots of older games I wouldn't mind seeing reboots of: AquaNox, Destroy All Humans, and Tachyon. I would also like a sequel or something to Killer is Dead. None of these are owned by Koch though.
A new Dead Island maybe (again)? I sort of liked the first one, especially the setting. I have never been interested in Saint's Row though, too over-the-top for me, for what I want in something like that.
Maybe a new Stalker game? that could be nice. I don't think they were ever relased on console. So maybe a packaged remaster for consoles in the future? Unique and interesting games, I liked them more than the Metro series. So I hope they can do something with the IP.
I liked dead island and I just recently got into saints row. If they are truly not interested in restructuring I dont see an issue with this as THQ is alright in my book as well.
@Fight_Teza_Fight selling cheap ports on the switch
THQ has basically become a phoenix at this point.
@Fight_Teza_Fight They're just very efficient as money management.
Wonder what happens with the publishing between Deep silver and atlus seeing that Deep silver also published persona5 in europe
@darkswabber THQ Nordic was originally Nordic Game, unrelated to THQ.They changed name to THQ Nordic after acquisition of THQ.
Nothing Ironic... Instead Brilliant moves for Nordic to rebuilt THQ piece by piece without spending big fortune to acquire it as a whole during the bankruptcy.
@darkswabber
Nordic Games has existed since the 1990s.
@John_Matrix I was already corrected, over 3 months ago. Bit late...
