The next PlayStation Plus update is an absolute corker, and if you haven’t seen the lineup yet, we recommend checking it out. While the headline titles are Bloodborne and Ratchet & Clank, it’s worth noting that PlayStation 4 owners will get a total of five games via cross-buy. But starting March 2019, the platform holder will be removing PlayStation 3 and PS Vita titles from the service’s roster, so what does that mean for PS4 moving forwards?
Well, speaking with Polygon, a representative revealed that subscribers will receive just two titles per month from March 2019 onwards. But while this is the company line for now, we wouldn’t recommend reading too much into it: these changes are a long way away, and we’ve already seen the manufacturer experiment with PlayStation VR giveaways. Heck, who’s to say there won’t be a new PlayStation console on the horizon this time next year?

As long as it's two quality titles I have no issue with that.i can't remember the last ps3 game I downloaded, and it's even longer for the vita.
I'm going back to xbox
Why not 4 ps4 games
So, this means Sony is doomed, right? But really I usually don’t get all the free games offered every month anyway so as long as it’s, at the minimum, decent games than I’m good.
@BrianC Have fun!
@BrianC for someone who has a gravity rush avatar, i see no single reason in the world why you would leave sony... i hope you like gears of war and halo sequels lol
So everyone shouting for ps3 and Vita games to be stopped in the hope we get more PS4 stuff.....
what people need to keep in mind is this: ps5 will likely release at the end of 2019 or some time in 2020. sony will be giving out a couple ps5 games in addition to ps4 games... so possibly 4 games a month when all is said and done.
Surprised it's not happened sooner . Thought mebe they would start offering a deal with ps now
@johnny30 PS Now isn't available in every country so they can't really build deals around that.
@themcnoisy they get it but it seems we’re lowering things w PS+
It's a year away, things change. When PS+ started we were getting dynamic themes and avatars, a little later they added the year long 12 game ICG. Then PS+ became REQUIRED for online play on PS4, meaning we weren't paying for games so much as playing online. So who knows. Will PSVR still be valid? They won't give only 2 games a month if 1 is always PSVR, not enough PSVR owners, people will revolt. So maybe 2 PS4 and 1 PSVR. Or maybe more tirals. Or maybe a discount on PS Now or PS Vue. Or movies. PS Now and PS Vue seem a wee bit overpriced for me but who is paying $9.99 for Fargo and other old movies they put on sale, watch them streaming.
And PS+ should change after PS5 anyway, so there's that. But I'll take 2 PS4 games and 1 HD movie rental per month, movies are for renting, not for buying.
@BrianC Hahahaha that's a mature reaction.
They'll probably start offering one or two PSVR titles, and one or two PS5 titles by that point. I'm half wondering if Sony just low key announced the PS5 launch date.
Hey, a guy can dream.
@KratosMD also keep in mind... ps3 and vita games take a portion of sony's budget when adding them to ps+. they do have to pay the publishers something to sign onto the deal after all. freeing up that money and putting it towards two noteworthy (hopefully) ps4 games a month sounds like a good tradeoff to me... many of the ps3 and vita offerings have been weak over the past few years now since the majority of noteworthy titles on those platforms have already been given out by now...
Well, it better be two of the good 'AAA' games each month or the service looks pathetic compared to Games with Gold. And that's made even more worse by the fact that MS also offers EA Access, Game Pass and real backwards compatibility that's always improving. Not liking a lot of the moves Sony is making recently and even more disturbing is it's happening with change at the top of PlayStation and Sony command. I'll reserve full judgement until later but my early opinion on these new guys is that they're a couple of clowns set to take PlayStation back to the dark era of 2006-2008.
It's perhaps worth reiterating that none of this is happening for 12 months. There's so much that could happen in that time that PS Plus might look completely different by then.
They've rightly notified consumers a year in advance (as was the right thing to do), but if they have other stuff in the pipeline then it's not like they can reveal it now. It's just not worth even thinking about at this stage IMO.
That's about right.
Up the subscription price and half the amount of games.
Sheesh !!!
Great News, but I hope Sony will still toss a PSVR game out every now and then! After all PSVR games are also PS4 games. I own both March titles on Disc but getting the digital version free lets me now skip putting in the disk to play. Thanks to my $169 Seagate 8Tb external HDD I have room to spare.
I'm really hoping the inevitable PS5 will be a lot further down the line than everyone is thinking, but if it does happen it happens.
This is ridiculous. If something doesn’t change, I will be very unhappy. I want AAA and indie games. Indie games have been one of my favorite parts of the service as I don’t need to buy any with it. I expect 6 games, no less. I don’t care if there are designedates indie slots or if they add PSVR. 4 games is pushing it. If they stick with 2, that’s an insult. Yes, I’m feeling salty about the possibility that I could be over reacting to.
How long have people wanted rid of of PS3 and Vita games and now that they have they moan about losing value. A classic case of consumers not knowing what they want.
I'm having a chuckle about the people saying they'll jump ship to xbox... just wait Microsoft will be discontinuing support for 360 soon as well... I hate to break it to you guys those systems are over 10 years old... they won't last forever. GWG will be 2 games soon as well. Just my two cents. Exclusive on PSN will always be better than Microsoft..
Pay more get less
Anyway, better have months like the next one all the time coming march 2019 or there will be a riot
I believe that they will add something extra, a third game or something tottaly new, who knows? I just think it is too early for them to reveal their plans.
It's normal to not support PS3 anymore, but i believe that Vita users deserves more respect. First, Sony removed PS Now from Vita and now PS Plus games, that's not a great way to support your own device.
I'm really satisfied with PS Plus on PS4, but i think it's a shame that Sony is supporting pc more than Vita, their own device.
First they raised the ps plus price, now they reduced the games they give.
It'll continue to be like now, mostly games with one or two months giving good games per year.
They just raised their revenue, that's all and everyone will keep giving them the money, since almost all games now are online and you need plus to be online.
@PS_Nation 100% Agreed, and more, I'll probably not be in the next Sony generation, the way the handled the Vita was like punch me in the face, I'm still with ps3 and Vita and thinking about not buying the ps4, instead I'll buy a switch because Nintendo cares for their customers.
Being on the horizon doesn't mean there will be games given for it. XD So two titles per month it is, then. Technically, it should still outpay the subscription cost regardless (cloud saves remain my primary reason, but 60 bucks even per year could feel like a steeper price for them alone).
Well, this shouldn't be an issue, because you're paying for the online. The games are a free bonus, right?
I am staying with Sony. But maybe not with Plus. Hoping they announce something else when that happens.
@adf86 I'm pretty sure people wanted more PS4 games in exchange. No one wanted the systems dropped for the sake of it.
Hi All, - while we all like Triple A Titles, a lot of long term PS4 Owners have already Owned / Played these Titles -
Yet new PS4 Owners must be thinking Wow...! Xmas Day again -
I like the idea of a Free HD Movie Rental or how about if a Triple A Game is given away, that as a bonus any DLC is Heavily Discounted
I like the idea of Indie Games, although not always to my choice, I have played a few Monthly Hand-outs that I would never have given a look in, which does then led me into checking out / buying
certain other titles of a similar vein
@KratosMD @Jaz007 Yes that's true but people were very naive to think that cos PS3 and Vita games were taken away that we would assume that we get more PS4 games. Sony obviously saw that those games weren't getting many downloads so probably wasn't seen worth it to continuing to pay the publishers to continuing to put those games on the service anymore.
@VRDart Is this the same Nintendo that blocks Youtube videos, that artificially reduce stock of Amiibos and NES Minis to increase demand but just leaves it for a dumping ground for scalpers to rip people off and has an online service that isn't even in the same decade as it's rivals let alone competing with them?
@chucknorris078 What you may be forgetting is that just because the 360 console may be 'dead' doesn't mean the games will die or not be offered. They could continue to offer 360 games until they have NO 360 games left to offer. They have added some OG Xbox games to BC yet that console is dead too. Online works regardless of whether you are on an XB1 or XB360. Those 360 games will just be made up of just XB1 BC gamers once the 360 is turned off.
Whilst Sony may only offer 2 games, I bet as soon as the PS5 launches, it will be months before they have games they could offer free with IGC and years before any are AAA quality. It maybe that the PS4 offerings could be BC like we see with the 360 titles on XB1 so the 'years' of PS4 games you already have could still be playable and you still get 2 games a month. As others have said, Sony could supplement the games with other bonuses - Themes, Avatars etc as well as the odd 'bonus' extra game. All they are saying is that you will get 2 games a month. Its like they have said we get 6 games a month now but we have had a seventh occasionally...
They don't want to offer 3 (or more) for example to offset the loss of PS3/Vita offerings as people will expect that if/when PS5 games are offered. They won't accept dropping back down to 2 because now Sony are offering PS5 games....
@adf86 I’m not sure this is entirely true. You see I have a ps3 and a vita but haven’t picked up a ps4/vr yet but still claim everything.
@PS_Nation PS Vita is six years old; it'll be seven years old by the time this happens. I think seven years of support for a system that barely sold 15 million units is a miracle to be honest.
@get2sammyb as a vita owner they really should have cut us off 2 years ago.
@faint Exactly. Some people have insane expectations, I swear.
So next year we'll get 2 ps4, 2 ps vr, and 2 ps5 games each month
@get2sammyb Well, the main reason they gave us a year's notice is so they don't get sued for falsely advertising that you get six "free" games with a plus subscription. After today, if you buy a year's plus sub, you can't complain about the service changing from what was promised.
@Octane haha, the Sony brainwashers got to you, didn't they?
The bottom line is that if Sony provides quality PS4 games on a consistent basis then it's well worth the trade.
The PS3 lineups have been terrible for months, not to mention the fact that the console is what? Over a decade old?
The Vita's got a dedicated fanbase for sure, but Sony is always going to cut its losses on a portable console that's crawling towards seven years on the market.
Sony's always going to focus on its main system — in this case it's a console that's closing in on 100 million units. It might be tough to swallow but it makes total sense.
And that's without even taking into account that the PS5 can't be far off. Sony will have to restructure the service soon enough either way.
@adf86 maybe not the same people? Just a thought
@Yowza then why May and not March or April?
@get2sammyb it also must have been quite cheap to get those vita (and ps3) games
@PS_Nation well, they are a business and they're supposed to make some profit. I mean how long should they keep losing money on the vita? As a vita owner, I'd be happy if support never ended, but we have to be a bit realistic. They could have dropped vita ages ago like Ninty did with wiiu. Now that was terrible yet I didn't see or hear any complaints.
@Yowza Which is fair, no? That's the right thing to do? I think we're in agreement.
@ShogunRok And also, we don't know what PS Plus will look like in 12 months. They may well have plans that they're not ready to reveal yet, but as @Yowza pointed out, it's right to make this information public now for anyone planning to purchase an annual sub.
@Yowza Hey, that's what people are always telling me, don't shoot the messenger
@naruball Couldn't agree more about the Wii U, it was pathetic how Nintendo handled the console. I just think it's not right to support pc more than Vita, or Sony should focus entirely on PS4 and PSVR only, and stop releasing games on pc.
People claiming that PS Plus games are not free, trying to troll the service here on the comments, please try to buy games like Bloodborne, Ratchet & Clank, Knack, Rime, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and all the games that are coming this year for only U$ 60.
And also please share this amazing store with all these amazing deals.
Thanks.
@VRDart Let's watch the language please.
I'm shocked this is such an issue. Who has time for any more than a couple free games per month anyway? And dropping PS3 and Vita free games is no surprise, probably a bit overdue. I'm assuming Sony will decrease the number of titles but provide higher quality offerings. Guess we'll have to wait and see...
@BAMozzy The PS4 had PS Plus titles the day it launched though. An excellent one at that with Resogun.
@VRDart funniest thing I've heard all year. Thanks!
@PS_Nation Well said. Some gamers are completely unreasonable.
@doctommaso While I agree with you (my backlog is huge and more games wouldn't change anything), I imagine that many people want more free ps4 games so that out of the ones offered they can find something they like or don't own. There are many months that they get nothing they will play. I don't have that problem and even when I do I look at it yearly, not monthly.
@PS_Nation but the truth is they are not free, it is more like a limited ps now. Sure if you platin them right away and never want to visit them again everything is fine but as it stands now a PS3/Vita owner will have to pay for psplus to keep their plus library playable without getting anything new anymore.
You maybe can't buy the games for the price you mentioned but for a bit more (except for bloodborne you could get them quite cheap) they would be yours even if you don't renew your sub.
@adf86 Just a personal observation but if nintendos online service is really a decade behind why is it better? This is just personal observation as stated but I had not so many trouble playing online with 3DS/wiiu/switch than with the ps4 with lost connections, long downtimes etc. Also their store is much more accessible while the ps4 store is just horrible (like jumping back to top when adding something from the sale to basket, random reloads of the whole page, not listing games when you search for them and much more). And it is (soon was) all free.
Topic: As of now I own a lot of the games offered in plus so the only chance to get some value was through some cross buys that I don't have. So I hope they may add the option to get cheaper plus without games (And vice versa as that would help the ps3/vita people to keep their years of games for cheap). I can't see them putting reguar vr titles in the pot mainly because there are not enough users. For now one can only wait and hope it changes for the better as this is long overdue
Some people are just going to complain at whatever PS do. For me, it's a few quid a month that not only gives me a couple of free games a month, but, potentially hundreds of pounds of discounts on loads of games on the PS Store.
To be honest, the backlog of games that I've got I've not even downloaded the PS+ games from Jan or Feb
@naruball Okay, yes, good point, thanks.
... it's a shame... first the 25% price hike and now this... it'll be interesting to see the landscape once Kaz leaves... Sony won this generation by a country mile... if they keep going like this though I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox leapfrogs them next gen... XB1X and Game Pass is already far better value now (and Gold is still the same price) - coupled with the fact they've dropped all the TVTVTV and Kinect nonsense... Sony's going to lose more and more support if they don't actually start giving people more for their money instead of continually less and less... :/
(and of course who hasn't already played / bought Bloodborne & Clank - so effectively you're getting nothing this month... and the danger is that the fewer games they provide the more chance you've already played / bought them... so you're getting zero added value...)
@Melistrius Sorry but Switch still has the god awful 12 digit codes just to link up with friends, even then there's no social features like send messages or party invites in system because Nintendo in their infinite wisdom stuck all that on a phone app, heck there isn't even apps like Netflix which is practically on every connected devices these days. Microsoft figured this out over ten years ago so why Nintendo can't even deliver the basic network features is beyond me.
@OneManDroid I doubt that Xbox's doesn't have a much of a market in Europe and Japan so how they can as you say leapfrog PlayStation at this point is doubtful now. Game Pass is just a service, it doesn't sell consoles, games do and PlayStation for three generations have ran rings round them in that regard and I can't see it changing any time soon.
Backwards compatibility sure sounds nice right about now. And I don't mean the dumpster fire called PS Now.
soo...is ps plus going to become a lot cheaper then? otherwise it would be a complete scam. i mean i'm okay with not getting ps3 and vita games anymore (dead platforms) but it has to get cheaper then.
Hopefully this means more PS4 games, or they'll start offering PSNow with the service.
