Dragon Quest Builders is a great little sandbox game, but its lack of co-op multiplayer has always been a popular criticism. However, with Dragon Quest Builders 2 currently in development, Square Enix is apparently in the process of exploring its multiplayer options.

This is according to the latest issue of Famitsu, which features an interview with producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto and director Kazuya Niinou, as translated by Gematsu. The summary reads, "While Square Enix currently cannot say much about multiplayer, they are thinking about ways to make it more than just “being able to play with others.” They think they will be able to offer a playground of some sort."

To us, that sounds like Square Enix is at least considering some kind of co-op free mode, but we're sure most players just want the ability to play through the game with a friend. Here's hoping that we end up with both.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 was officially announced last year, but it's clearly a while off releasing yet. In the meantime, let us know what kind of multiplayer you'd like to see in the comments section below.
