In this final page of Monster Hunter: World beginners tips and tricks, we're going to teach you how to learn attack patterns and using the environment to your advantage.

Party with Others to Beat Monsters

If you're really struggling to beat a monster (Rathalos and Diablos, we're looking at you!), you can party up with others to make the fight just a little easier.

There are multiple ways you can do this. You can post a quest online and wait for others to join before entering, or visit the Gathering Hub to make friends and start a party that way.

Alternatively, if you're really struggling while fighting a monster, you can use an SOS flare to try and summon a bunch of players to help you. Bear in mind that fighting with others does affect your rewards.

Learn Attack Patterns

Each monster has its own attack pattern, and learning them is your surest route to success. Once you've learned the entire attack pattern, you can feasibly beat any monster without taking a hit.

During your first fight with a new monster, spend time just watching them. There's plenty of time to beat them later – for now, you just want to know how they tick.

Look for the telltale signs of an attack, learn where they attack from, and keep an eye out for any visual changes. These typically mean an enemy is about to change its attack pattern, often with more powerful attacks.

Keep a close eye out for windows where you can let off a few attacks and make them count. Aim for weak spots and parts where the monster will break. You'll wear them down eventually.

Shoot Flying Monsters with Your Slinger

Like to go melee but sick of flying monsters? Use your slinger to attack them, then beat them to a bloody pulp when they come down to see what all the fuss is about.

Or Use It to Put Down Large Monsters

Your slinger can also be used to put large monsters in a variety of different states. You can create pods to frighten them, knives to tranquillise them, and many more besides.

Use the Environment to Your Advantage

While hunting large monsters, you'll see a bunch of different items and wildlife that can give you a serious advantage.

Perhaps there are Vigorwasps about that can restore your health for free, or flashflies that you can hit when a monster is near to blind it. There are even plants that poison or hide you, and toads that paralyse and put to sleep.

Pay attention to your environment while fighting and take advantage of it and you'll have a much easier time.

The Same Goes for Traversal

The environment isn't just useful for combat, it can help you get around faster too. Sprint down a hill and you'll slide down it, jump towards a vine and you'll grab it and swing, and you can even crawl, or dive, under surfaces to get around faster.

There are often much faster ways of travelling than walking or running. Keep an eye on the map and your surroundings for clues on how to get around faster.

Complete Bounties

Another habit to get yourself into, is to regularly complete bounties. You can get these from the researchers at town, and they task you with performing simple actions like picking up a set number of items, or capturing and killing certain monsters.

These are vital, as they're your best source of armour spheres, which are an essential component of upgrading your armour.

If you complete bounties on every run, and refresh them when you're back in town, you'll have enough armour spheres every time you go to upgrade them.

Don't Neglect Your Quests

Monster Hunter World PS4 Beginners Guide Tips and Tricks 21

Monster Hunter: World has a campaign to complete, and you might be tempted to progress through it at breakneck pace. We'd strongly urge you to reconsider.

While primary quests do provide serious rewards, from new areas to explore, cold hard cash, and new equipment, they're not the only type of quests that do so.

If you regularly complete the side quests, you'll have enough cash to buy everything you'll need, the best equipment to use, and the finest meals on offer at the canteen. It will just make your life so much easier.

Do Investigations to Get More Stuff You Want

If you need certain materials from a monster, or items out in the world, we recommend you do an investigation that tasks you with getting just that.

Not only will it ensure that the monster you're seeking is out in the world, but it will also provide you with more of what you want as a reward for completing it.

This is particularly helpful when you want materials from a certain monster, as it will seriously boost the rewards for killing it. This will enormously save time versus killing the monster multiple times.

It might even just be the difference between getting that rare item, and not.

Use Complimentary Equipment

As you progress, you'll unlock new equipment. You'll probably ignore these as they aren't quite as exciting as a new set of armour or weapons, but that would be a mistake.

Equipment can save you in a bind, or help kill a monster far faster than you would otherwise. All you need to do to check what you've unlocked and change them is to head to your item box and change your loadout. It's that simple.

There are ghillie suits that make you invisible or boost your health, stakes you can plant in the ground to heal and cure you of ailments, and various items you can use to harm your enemy.

When hunting large monsters, consider the item you might need to defeat them and equip it before leaving town.

The Same Goes for Charms

Eventually, you'll also unlock charms that are equally important. These help you boost a particular armour skill all the way to max without having to wear multiple pieces of armour with the same skill attached.

Once unlocked, you can craft these and we recommend keeping a few of them for different situations. You can save these as part of a custom loadout too, so use that to your advantage.
