The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be updated with HDR support “soon”, developer CD Projekt RED has revealed. While it’s pledged the enhanced graphical feature for the supercharged PlayStation 4 Pro only, we’re going to assume that the functionality will be made available on the base PS4 as well – after all, the standard model is fully capable of supporting HDR displays.
A few months back, the sprawling fantasy RPG was updated to take advantage of the PS4 Pro, significantly improving the resolution of the release. This is all after the Polish developer previously said it wouldn’t support Sony and Microsoft’s iterative hardware – good on the studio for changing its mind.

Any news on 60 fps mode like the x?
@wiiware I read somewhere that this runs at 60 fps unpatched on the X but when it’s eventually patched it will be running at 4K and 30 fps. I prefer games like this to run at 30 fps anyway, I don’t think it looks right running at 60 fps.
Now I just need a better TV .... 😔
And still we wait for HDR in Rise of the Tomb Raider...
We are being scammed if this remains an Xbox X only feature.
PS4 deserves HDR for this game if other platforms already have it.
@MaccaMUFC I don't have problem with 30 fps but it's better if the game give us choice like rise of tomb raider or nioh
@GamerDad66 I heard ps4 will have hdr patch too.
@MaccaMUFC Patch notes do say that there is two modes on the X - one of which is a Performance mode - although no figures are quoted. Its supposed to be Live now - and with HDR so its not surprising that they are bringing HDR to PS4 soon.
Wow this is amazing news, any reason to go back to witcher is good for me. Any word on when the hdr patch will be available?
Can we finally get something on Cyberpunk after this?
@MaccaMUFC Just got the details - the performance mode will be capped at 60fps but whether it can hold 60fps through out, I don't know. The 60fps mode though uses Dynamic scaling so can drop to 1080p but also hit up to 4k (supposedly). The 4k mode though locks the game at 4k with a stable 30fps. Both modes support HDR. The Xbox One X patch also brings enhanced shadows, ambient occlusion and texture filtering, as well as higher resolution textures. Can't wait to revisit this and play through the DLC - not played that yet on my Xbox. Blood and Wine in particular should look incredible in HDR (also when it comes on PS4).
I don't know if I will revisit my GotY PS4 version as I have beaten the game and both DLC packs. I bought the DLC for my Xbox version in a sale - once I heard that the game was getting 'X' support. At least that gives me a 'reason' to revisit whilst my PS4 version only offers 'new game +' or going round collecting up all the '?'s' - the majority of which are in Skellige and only Smugglers Cache. I do have some fist fight, racing and 'Gwent' side missions to complete (on both) but these were boring and not something I felt I wanted to do. Even still, I spent over 200hrs playing - its definitely my best game of the Generation so far.
@BAMozzy Thanks for the info, I’ll most probably use the 4K 30 fps mode, I don’t feel this game needs to be played at 60 fps, it has great graphics and a really detailed world so I’d rather pick the visual mode over performance. I’ve heard the Blood and Wine DLC looks stunning and can only imagine it’ll look even better in HDR, as well as all the bells and whistles that come with it being enhanced for the X.
@MaccaMUFC I will no doubt go for the 4k mode too but the 60fps mode could be an option - depending on how well it holds 60fps and the hit to resolution it suffers. It should still have the other bells and whistles - like enhanced Textures. For those on 1080p TV's, the hit to resolution won't be as obvious as it will always be above 1080p.
The game looked great anyway but Blood and Wine was a step up. I think it really helped because of the much more varied colour palette and brighter 'Mediterranean' inspired setting. This should really impress in HDR - not to say the rest of the game won't benefit. Its also going to be a big step up from the 900p SDR XB1 version - I certainly noticed the difference 1080p made on the PS4.
Hopefully getting this for Christmas!
