We're obviously all for getting stuck into a hardcore video game, but we think it's important to step back and try to appreciate different experiences from time to time. With that in mind, it's worth highlighting Aqua TV -- a title that essentially lets you turn your display into a customisable virtual aquarium.
"Aqua TV is more a piece of eye candy than a game. You choose your environments (tropical reef or traditional aquariums of varying sizes) and then populate it with a choice of fish and other sea creatures. And that’s just about it!" writes Bobby Farmer, producer at developer EM Studios.
We reckon Aqua TV could be worth a try if you're looking to just sit back and relax. It arrives on PlayStation 4 next week, on the 12th December, and PlayStation Plus members get 30 per cent off for a limited time. There's no word on the actual pricing just yet, though.

I got the Uncharted dynamic theme looks like the same sort of thing with fish swimming around.
OKAY THEN
Does it have a platinum though?
Would be nice if it had a little more interactivity like Tamagotchi or something like that. Bit of a waste of electricity leaving everything on whilst doing not much at all.
If only it didn't cost money. Did they say for sure that it would?
I'm surprised this isn't in VR.
If this was free id be a cert. It depends on the price. My 6 month old daughter loves fish and aquariums, so this might genuinely be something i would consider buying if the price is right
I have a terrible fear of Coral Reefs. This would be just hellish for me. I wish my Mum had never let me watch the start of Finding Nemo.
@KirbyTheVampire Yep, PS Plus members get a discount so it definitely has a price.
I often wish I could have a virtual aquarium on the TV, sort of a screen saver. Decoration for when we're not using the TV. If the price is right, this could be right up my alley.
Hmm... if there’s sharks that eat the other sea creatures then I might consider it.
I bought one of these on Wii/Wiiware way back when for about 1000 points ($10) way back when and the graphics were borderline terrible but it was still kind of cute. This looks way better than that with a choice tanks or open ocean I'm in if it's $9.99 or $6.99 with plus.
Oh, I also bought a PS3 camera for Aquatica or some such on PS3.
I got a thing for fish.
Pretty cool, but I think I'd rather just watch Blue Planet 2
supposed to be free app, i used to turn on AnywhereVR (not necessary need VR) when relaxing in my room. and the default AnywhereVR is free, with some views.
@rjejr I still try to erase the memories of all the money I put into WiiWare's overpriced garbage :')
@ShogunRok Oh okay, thanks! Somehow I skimmed over that section of the article.
Does it have a platinum trophy?? 😂
Hi,
Bobby Farmer from Aqua TV developer here.
To answer the question a few of have raised, yes, Aqua TV does have a price: it's $9.99, €9.99, £7.99 - with a 30% launch discount for PS+ members.
There are no other micro transactions thereafter.
Doesn't support PSVR yet, but it's something we'd love to do if we find there's an audience for this kind of thing on PS4.
Not everyone's cup of fish of course, but hopefully for those that like the idea of having some kind of virtual aquarium, Aqua TV will be the best of this kind of thing you've ever seen!
Bobby
@Kidfried "erase the memories"
I can't forget, I spent 800 points on Chick Chick Boom but I needed to add 1000 points so I still have 200 points I've been trying to spend the last 7 years.
@ShogunRok @get2sammyb You guys should update the article when 1 of the devs shows up and posts to tell you how much it is. Oh, and thank him for taking the time to visit the site and post while you're at it. post #20
Oh, and by the way, I was right about the price. post #13
@rjejr ever thought about a career in journalism
@Bobby_F No, I just like picking on these guys.
@rjejr LOL!
@rjejr I remember being so into the Wii that I just bought everything that appeared on it. Glad I eventually woke up from that illusive dream!
@Bobby_F It's cool when developers take the time to reach out to websites. You're a studio from the UK right?
@Bobby_F thanks for reaching out. Funnily i just saw your comment about vr on eurogamer and came to share it on here.
Genuinely tempted. My 6 month old loves fish so this could be perfect for her
@Rob_230 yeah, support for PSVR is something we'd love to add. At the moment we don't have any of the development or test tools or kit, but if Aqua TV does well enough we'll get it and add support.
It'll definitely look great in the reef, but we think it may even look pretty cool in the tanks too.
Something we hope we get the chance to do .
@Kidfried that's correct yes. Based in Glasgow, Scotland.
@ShogunRok Hi Robert, Aqua TV is out now, and if you'd like a promo code so you can have a look at it, please get in touch at [email protected]
Cheers,
Bobby
