Ah, so this is Games as a Service done the correct way. As promised, Polyphony Digital has released a ginormous update for Gran Turismo Sport, which adds a requested single player campaign, 12 new cars, and a bunch of other features all free of charge. You can download it right now – in fact, if your PlayStation 4’s in Rest Mode it may have already grabbed it while you were in bed.
The headline addition is the GT League, a more traditional single player campaign featuring a series of races for you to complete. Some of these have restrictions on which vehicles you can use, giving you plenty of incentive to put Gran Turismo Sport’s growing car roster through its paces. Speaking of which, the update also includes 12 brand new cars. Here’s what’s on offer:
- Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD)
- Nissan Skyline GT-R V・spec II (R32)
- Nissan Skyline GT-R V・spec II Nür (R34)
- Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
- Lamborghini Countach LP400
- Ferrari F40
- Ferrari Enzo Ferrari
- KTM X-BOW R
- Suzuki Swift Sport
- Volkswagen Samba Bus Type 2 (T1)
- Chris Holstrom Concepts 1967 Chevy Nova
- Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible (C3)
If that’s not enough, there are also some new holiday-themed Scapes for you to photograph your cars in, while Lewis Hamilton has dropped by to share some tips on the famous Nurburgring circuit. It’s an absolutely monstrous update for a game which is guaranteed to grow through 2018 and beyond. And if you haven’t bought the racer yet, it’s currently on sale on the European PlayStation Store.

Awesome update.
I missed the previous sale but I will get it next time. Huge backlog, not a huge racing fan.
Excellent news. Going to update now.
@sinalefa it’s reduced to £25 in 12 days sales at moment I got it downloading. Then read this news happy days
Thank you Sony, this is the right way to treat your customers. We're all fed up with the greed that has taken over gaming right now, so this is a real pleasure to see, going to download this right now!
@Onion_Knight
Well said.
Was more than happy with the original game which delivered on exactly what was promised but if it makes some people happy to have a few single player challenges and brings more new players then that's a positive.
And sold!
Been tempted for a while. Free dlc plus a sale price has sealed the deal
I trialed this with vr and a wheel setup a few weeks back at a demo booth, and was well impressed. After a few corners I really got to grips with it and started being able to push the limits. Very immersive with the force feedback etc. Enough so that I picked up a t150 as my Xmas pressie (thanks Mrs wiz!).
Can't wait to get stuck in!
Too little too late. I think I'll hold out till a proper GT sequel. Drive Club turned me off on the whole games as a service idea.
@Chronicus_Pr1me Than you may wait forever.
@Chronicus_Pr1me at the rate GT games come out, you may be waiting well into next generation, mate. They did say these cars were rendered to a standard that could work on PS5, after all.
Somehow with this new service model, I suspect GT Sport will be the PS4's one-and-done GT game. I'd be glad/pleasantly surprised for Sony and Polyphony Digital to prove me wrong.
@Turismo4GT
They did manage to get 2 GTs on PS3 depsite GT 5 arriving pretty late.
Bought the game the day this update was announced now. Time to fire it up.
@Gamer83 true, I know their standard is two GTgames per generation, but this is a different kettle of fish altogether in my opinion. I'd really like to see the next GT (7 or whatever it's called) drop on the system I own now. Whenever the PS5 goes on sale, I wouldn't be getting it day one. New hardware tends to have a fair amount of bugs to work out, and I've never been an early adopter, especially now that there would be the possibility of a PS5 Pro sometime down the line.
@Turismo4GT
I could see this going either way. Sport isn't really a traditional GT so it would be nice to get a GT 7 that is closer to the series original roots. However, this is also the first time GT has been rolled out as a 'Game as a service' so very well could be the lone entry we see on PS4 with Polyphony making updates and additions here and there to satisfy old and new fans until it's time for GT (whatever form it takes) on PS5.
this has nothing to do with games as a service. they obviously wanted to have this ready day one but couldn't make it.
@manu0 Maybe. The game is still clearly designed to be updated constantly over a long period of time.
Has anyone played it yet that can offer some impressions?
Can you play it in a less sim fashion, like Driveclub? And does it feel fast? DC is aces, so I'm not sure I need any other racer tbh, but it does look amazing visually, and I wouldn't mind another reason to push my 4K TV.
Nice, I'll get it with the game on the next psn us sales
brilliant update to an already good game
Will the singleplayer get reviewed?
I criticized the game on the release date because the lack of content, especially the lack of single-player, really glad that I was wrong.
That's how you support your game, not with greedy microtransactions. Kudos for Sony and Polyphony.
