Remember how virtually every retail release has been down this year in the UK due to growing digital sales? It hasn’t affected Call of Duty: WWII, which has absolutely smashed predecessor Infinite Warfare’s launch by a whopping 57 per cent. That should put the historical shooter just short of Black Ops III’s first week figures – again, without digital sales factored into the equation.
Impressively, 57 per cent of the sales were made on the PlayStation 4, compared to just 42 per cent on the Xbox One – a trend that’s become fairly consistent in recent months. It’ll be interesting to see whether the release of the Xbox One X can start to reverse that trend – or if Sony’s system will continue to strengthen its strangle on third-party sales.
Good word of mouth allowed for a solid Assassin’s Creed Origins hold, with the Egyptian adventure sticking around in second. Meanwhile, FIFA 18 leapfrogged Super Mario Odyssey into third, while Gran Turismo Sport kept its nose in front of Forza Motorsport 7 in fifth position. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus dropped into sixth place, while newcomer Spintires: MudRunners entered in 24th position.

That's some comeback for Call of Duty. Looks like I won't be able to get WWII for £12.99 this Christmas.
best call of duty ever since world at war.word up son
Unless I’m mistaken, this is the first week in a long time GTA V has been absent from the top 10!
@Quintumply Correct!
@get2sammyb That game’s stranglehold on the charts has been absolutely insane. An incredible success for Rockstar.
Finally, no GTA V in there.
I contributed to Mario Oddysey and Wolfenstein
Mario Kart, too, but I got that digitally so it "doesn't count"!
The online service though has been a mess, it was improved yesterday, hopefully it will just work this week. Campaign was okay, nothing special. There are 4 racing games in the top ten too, must've been a while since that happened before GT Sport.
@Krest_arisen Well, I just meant the feedback from previous games hasn't been great, but everyone's been talking about how good this one is which must help.
Why is it impressive that 57% of sales were on PS4? Surely there is a far larger user base.
GTA can’t stay in the charts? I’m sure Rockstar is incredibly disappointed in the results of this game. We may not even see a GTA VI now...
😉
I have my CoD:WW2 but still not bothered starting it yet and can't say I am 'excited' by the MP but Zombies looks awesome this year.
I really can't see the X making a 'big' difference to 3rd Party Game sales. Its already a year behind Sony's Pro for those who are looking for 'enhanced' visuals. The Xbox is already quite far behind on sales - if its at 50% of the PS numbers (70m PS4, 35m XB1's for example) then you would expect a 2:1 sales (in other words a 67% vs 33%) for the game to be equally popular on both systems.
I have no doubt that the X will be popular in the first few months and certainly enough to take MS to the top of the console sales for November but that's still not going to sell 35m to close up the deficit on Sony so the chances are, that the overall 3rd party balance would not be affected 'too' much - a few percent here and there at most. The X would really have to sell in big numbers and over a short period of time to have a big impact on the distribution. It would also have to steal gamers from the PS4/Pro to have a big swing quickly too rather than just XB1 gamers upgrading and the few 'new' comers all buying an X.
I know I may end up buying more 3rd party games on my Project Scorpio over the next year or two (depending on when Sony pring us the PS5) but I am just 1 person and that swing from PS4 to XB1 where I am concerned is not enough to make any difference to the swing. I don't know how many here for example would also be looking at getting an X for multi-platform games but I don't think it will be a flood of people migrating.
@Serf probably only because a larger percentage of xbox users buy the console for third party only/mostly and typically in the past xbox has been more popular for sales in fps games.
@get2sammyb
Yeah, feels like they spent some time and money on this actually improving this one rather than reskin/reiteration/cash in.
@Quintumply oh I knew somethings wrong with the charts gg. Thx 4 pointing it out. I was losing it trying to figure it out.
@Serf yeah I also think it isn't impressive at all. But keep in mind UK is most likely the only region in europe where Xbox is actually relevant. So it does make sense
Is it GT Sports third week? Pretty good still there in the top 5.
I cheated on PlayStation last week...
Picked up Super Mario Odyssey. It's pretty decent .
Hope Shuhei can forgive me.
No GTA, 2 Switch games and 2 X1 exclusives. Pretty unique
@Serf Hardware sales in the UK are about 5m to 4m in PS4's favour, nothing like the 100% gap worldwide.
@Fight_Teza_Fight you've let the team down, you dare to take enjoyment elsewhere.... pfffft
Does this mean we're getting a CoD sequel next year
1% didn't know what system they bought it for?
