The Trails of Cold Steel series has been in and out of the news quite frequently over the last few weeks, with Falcom announcing that Trails of Cold Steel and Trails of Cold Steel II will be coming to the PlayStation 4 next year. Previously PlayStation 3 and Vita exclusives, the titles will be remastered on Sony's current-gen system, running at 60 frames per second with 4K support.
The latest release in the series, Trails of Cold Steel III, launched earlier this year in Japan, but news quickly spread that it doesn't conclude the franchise's ongoing story, which has carried over from game to game. Apparently, Falcom had initially planned on ending the series with its third entry, but for various reasons, the developer decided to stretch it out over one last instalment.
That instalment will likely end up being Trails of Cold Steel IV, which CEO Toshihiro Kondo says will "truly be the last".
At this point, we're just hoping that we get our hands on localised versions of each already released title by the time this fourth game rolls around.

So how good exactly are these games? Are we talking Nier Automata and Persona levels of good? Or just Tales of levels of good?
@KratosMD Yeah, just Trails of Cold Steel. We got bombarded by pedantic weebs on Twitter so we changed it to avoid confusion.
@NinjaWaddleDee Gameplay wise? Polished and functional RPGs. Story, world-building, characters, and music? These are some of the best, even above Persona IMO. They're worth your time if you're tempted.
@Cassetticons @NinjaWaddleDee Yeah that's a pretty accurate description. Don't necessarily agree that they're better than Persona but I can see why people put them on the same level.
The only real criticism I see is that they're a bit slow. They're methodically paced and sometimes take a while to really get going, but again, the characters and world-building are so good that you might not even notice.
Just overall great JRPGs. Definitely worth a look if you're a fan of the genre.
I play legend of heroes trial of cold steel on ps3.easily top 5 rpgs I ever played.word up son
@Cassetticons Yeah I'm more interested in a great story when it comes to JRPGs. Hopefully a collection will come westward for PS4.
Wow, im getting tits tocs vita for xmas. Didnt realise a 4th was coming. It truly is the end if life as I know it.
I am onto the last chapter on cold 2. Loving it. I like this series more then persona. But that just personal taste.
But i want to be able to play 3,4 on the go. I have been playing the first 2 ganes on the vita. An it perfect fit.
Hope 3,4 come to the vita or switch.
@NinjaWaddleDee from my perspective these don't quite but the heights of persona 4 and 5 (but it's very close), but are on a level well above the tales games. And there is the added bonus that the games come together to make one bigstory rather than a new story, world and characters for each title. Only problem is that the first game started quite slowly. Once it gets going, it just doesn't let go.
This is amazing news. Up to chapter 5 on the first game (50 hours in) on my vita, abd is wonderful. I am loving the story,
Characters and gameplay. The battles are so fun. I cant wait to play more. Im hoping by the time i finish the second game, the third is ready for Western release
They hype us real , really hopr 3 anf 4 hold up well. Reminds me of thefeeling from old day when u played ps1 game like legend of dragoon or final fantasy 7 n 8 had the multiple disk that feeling when u beat the first disk , freaking awesome!!.
@NinjaWaddleDee Great story, combat is fun and well polished, awesome character development, clean graphics and voice acting. Only bad thing I could say about the game is that it's a little slow to progress through the story, mainly because of long dialouges. Which is why it had to be stretched out to a 4th game. It's not a sell out type of game either that only cares about your money, you can tell there was a lot of effort and passion put into this series. If you love jrpgs then seriously try this one out.
@NinjaWaddleDee
Better than Nier, not quite Persona.
@KratosMD Now that I have a PS4 I'm patiently waiting for ToCS III to be released stateside.
@KratosMD The PushSquare Trails fanclub lives on!!
