Syphon Filter PS4 PlayStation 4 Trademarks

Is stealth series Syphon Filter on the verge of a comeback? Probably not, but Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe did trademark the name this week. The registration doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s a new game on the way, but the paperwork’s certainly going to arouse suspicion nonetheless.

For those of you who don’t know, Gabe Logan’s undercover exploits were semi-popular on the PSone and PlayStation 2, with Days Gone developer Sony Bend helming the franchise. The last entry in the series, Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, launched on the PSP in 2007 – but was ported to the PS2 in North America as late as 2010.

Despite that game ending on a pretty big cliffhanger, the series has been dormant ever since. Sony has been actively trying to revive some of its older brands of late, porting titles like PaRappa the Rapper and LocoRoco to the PlayStation 4. Maybe it has similar things in mind for Syphon Filter? Or maybe we’re just looking into things too deeply?
