Don't you wish there was an option for publishers to test their games before release? Hear me out, imagine a group of people testing the game before it gets released, so that the developers are aware of any bugs and glitches. Those can be ironed out before they ship the game. I would call it Q&A, has a nice ring to it, don't you think?
@Octane that's funny but still I understand their position! They can have test groups but never on a scale of fully released games. So in a sense we are the group test xD
But at least this game isn't a buggy overrated mess like Skyrim
It seems these days there is a poor Beta group of testers who are the preordering / day 1 purchasers.
Same with Far Cry 5, I'm going to wait at least a month after release before picking this up, plus it'll be a much cheaper price then too (maybe even in the 12 days of Xmas sale)
Yeah, you gotta admit - although it seems impossible for these developers to have all the wrinkles ironed out by release, these post release updates seem to deincentivize day 1 purchases, especially for really large games.
Quite a big patch!! I really must return to it and progress. I haven't left the first main town area yet although that is 'next' it seems as I have done all quests in that area. Certainly a wonderful looking game.
@Octane I am sure they do test the game - in fact we hear that some games change when tested and they receive feedback - even some get cancelled. The issue is that they have such a small group, many who may be too close to the game that follow the path and don't encounter these bugs/glitches. They still continue to test and play the game after its gone gold - hence we get Day 1 patches. Also helped by sending the game to reviewers who feedback about bugs/glitches. That's still a very small group though.
Its not until it gets out into the public domain where 'millions' of people get their hands on it. I expect a lot of these push the boundaries of the game - much more than someone checking the game by following the set path. The public will be the ones looking for 'exploits' etc. Those testers aren't likely to go in the opposite direction to the quest marker just to see if they can 'glitch' or find something - they will head to the marker to see if the game 'works' as expected. People though are far more random, far more likely to push the boundaries.
Even a game like Horizon:Zero Dawn had numerous patches post launch to 'fix' issues, bugs and glitches. Many I never encountered on my Playthrough because I didn't try to glitch out of the map, or do something 'unexpected' that screwed up the 'mission'. That game felt very polished on release to me. Some of the 'quality of life' improvements, like buying/selling in bulk may only come from 'feedback' from the community as it wasn't seen as an issue or particularly troublesome in testing/review before the game released.
I guess if they had a bigger 'testing' group - like 1m or 2m - then they would stand a better chance of ironing out bugs/glitches before release but that's not 'cost effective'
Almost 100 hours deep and still got the last mission and some restricted areas (but no sidequests) left, awesome game
@AFCC I'm only joking of course, but it sometimes makes me wonder how all these bugs could've bypassed the developers. @Th3solution brings up a good point though, you're certainly better off waiting a few weeks when most of the patches are out with all these big open world games.
One issue I've been having is the trophies not showing on what's new or recent activity. It's specific to this game too. Sony haven't helped and ubi are ignoring. It's the disc version. Anyone else having this issue?
New hair options? Now I have to buy it
@daveofduncan
Yeah bud. Same though I'm sure it's happened to me before on other games. Not sure what causes it.
Was getting a little burnt out cos I'm completing everything in each region before moving on. That's on me though. Took a couple days off and jumped back in. Great game.
Good deal. I prefer a beard on my Bayek.
enjoying this game soo much, never played or been a fan of AC before this. nice patch its cool Ubi is so detailed with all the fixes
@CFDennett I was doing that at the start but now I'm just keeping the main quest on the same or 1 level below me
Now all they need is for Bayek's hair/beard to progressively grow over time similar to the Witcher 3 and it'll win GoTY for sure.
@BAMozzy
This post says it all. For all the people whining about day one patches and such, READ WHAT THIS GUY SAYS! It's saving me a ton of trouble. As someone who has been gaming since 3 years old and has over 20 years experience with it, lemme tell you that the alternative to day one patches is far, far worse. Some games released back in the day were simply unplayable or had game-breaking bugs that NEVER got fixed. You lot complaining about a few patches are living a pampered, spoiled life compared to gaming in the old days where bugs were forever. Sure, some retro gaming glitches can be cute and funny, but the ones (like in Tomb Raider 3) that can completely ruin your whole file or games like Soul Caliber 3 (which to this day is borderline unplayable with glitches, including one that can corrupt your whole memory card) are not quite so cute.
Ideally, no game would need a patch, ever. But that's simply unrealistic. I can also vouch that for the most part, this is a pretty stable game right out of the box. There's always room for improvement, though.
Or you could code your own game and come back and tell me how easy it is to make a bug-free game.
@Onion As someone who has been gaming for over 40yrs, I know many games that were broken, glitched, buggy messes and never patched/fixed. At one point, many bugs/glitches were seen as funny etc - unless they were 'game breaking' of course. Its only in the last decade or so that patches and after release support - on consoles anyway. Games are also far more complex than they have ever been and maybe some of bugs/glitches are more numerous/intrusive than before but I am happy that at least devs have the opportunity to fix their games post launch.
