A week ago, Assassin's Creed Origins got a huge post-launch patch. Update 1.03 added loads of stuff across the board while also fixing a whole list of smaller issues. Unfortunately, the patch seems to have had a negative impact on the game's overall presentation. At least, according to some eagle-eyed posters over on the official forum.
A number of players have come forward claiming that the open world title now looks worse than when it launched at the end of last month -- both on the standard PlayStation 4 and the PS4 Pro. Some say the downgrade occurred when update 1.03 hit, while others are now seeing the effects after installing 1.04 -- the latest patch that released earlier this week. For the record, 1.04 was supposedly just your basic stability update.
We've been playing Origins since launch, and to be totally honest, we haven't really noticed any differences in visual quality -- but then it's not something that we've been keeping a close eye on. With that in mind, we'll let you know if Ubisoft acknowledges any of this.
Have you picked out any kind of graphical downgrade while playing? Share your findings in the comments section below.

I'm sure Digital Foundry will be able to zoom in on a freeze frame to show us what's gone wrong. (I haven't noticed any changes since the patch personally.)
@get2sammyb I hope we get to see them examine individual grains of sand.
There's 1 pixel less. THE HORROR THE HORROR!!!!
Its possible a slight resolution change could be applied to improve the stability - especially of the cut-scenes that rarely run at 30fps and can drop below 20fps on a 'Pro'. A more aggressive dynamic scaling implementation could decrease the resolution to improve the frame rates. I haven't played it enough and didn't jump in until very recently so not aware of how they game looked at launch to know if its downgraded with newer patches.
@ShogunRok If I see ANY difference at sand grain level I will completely KICK OFF. Not that I have the game or will get it any time soon but, seriously, I will still KICK OFF.
@ShogunRok I will riot if the sand grains aren't using 4K textures.
@get2sammyb I'll just throw my Pro into the sea. What's the point?
Gameplay/having fun > Graphics. Fight me.
The gold steelcase edition still sold out on playasia
I don't know how these kids would've survived back when we had the NES... xD
The pure snarky-ness of this thread has me laughing in my morning coffee.
Not that it really matters, but I wouldn't be surprised. It's a Ubisoft style move, they like downgrading eh?!
I've had serious framer rate drops and stuttering, and that's on my pro. I've also had a few crashes/freezing. As far as graphics go, I honestly couldn't tell you as, to me, the only change I'd notice is the difference between SD and HD/4K lol. Bring on the DF dudes to show me how dumb I am for not noticing slight graphical changes
Digital foundry are the MPVS tho, seen you both rely on them before
Get digital foundry on the case
This made me think that they artificially made the game look worse to try and force more sales of the Xbox One X, buuuut... It looks different now? Really? Eh, okay then...
Apparently ubisoft are now aware/admitting there is an issue and are working on a patch to fix the patch that fixes the patch 😒
@AFCC Agreed 100%. I enjoyed Undertale and that's certainly not a modern game by any means.
@ToddlerNaruto Hotline Miami is one of my all time favorites! Art style is way more important than achieving photorealistic graphics
@AFCC Don't forget an interesting storyline and unique gameplay .
Graphics/Open World are nice and all, but they're never my selling points .
@ToddlerNaruto Like people can't seriously expect a game like AC with a mad draw distance and some pretty good graphics, to push the boundaries of graphics, it's open world there are way more important things in an open world game! Just Cause 3 has bad graphics and is a very fun game!
