Ahead of Dynasty Warriors 9's Japanese release early next year, publisher Koei Tecmo has confirmed that the next Samurai Warriors game is in the works. The news comes via series producer Hisashi Koinuma, who posted on Twitter saying that development has just started.

Koinuma doesn't specify what the project actually is, but we have to imagine that it's probably Samurai Warriors 5. Perhaps it'll adopt the same open world format as the aforementioned Dynasty Warriors 9?

Unfortunately, it's going to be a while before we have an answer to that question. The producer states that the game won't be ready for at least a few years, so that leaves plenty of time for speculation.

The last mainline Samurai Warriors title, Samurai Warriors 4, launched all the way back in 2014, but Koei Tecmo has released several spin-offs since then.
