In addition to tweaking the PlayStation VR headset, Sony’s also announced a host of revisions for the PlayStation Move motion controllers. While this information comes courtesy of the Japanese PlayStation Blog, it looks like the main tweaks include a transition to Micro USB for charging (the same connection as the DualShock 4 uses) and an increase in battery size.
The original PlayStation Move wands leveraged a 1380 mAh battery while the specifications for the new unit mention a 1900 mAh battery. Considering that the motion controllers already run for a good 10 hours on a single charge, this suggests that the revised units may last even longer, which is obviously not to be sniffed at in this era of battery woes.
We assume these will make their way West eventually, perhaps quietly replacing stock of the old model. Visually, the motion controllers look exactly the same – though it does look like the platform holder has tried to de-emphasise the Move and Sony logos by colouring them black as opposed to grey.

@BLP_Software I was thinking the same thing. Wish they would update for usb c, not just these but the dualshock 4 as well. It's so much faster and more convenient.
Ah well don't see myself upgrading my 4 year old moves anytime soon but a step in the right direction.

@KirbyTheVampire You should return your DS4 to the store if you're only getting five minutes. Mine lasts at least four or five hours.
THe move controllers are ok but I think for VR they really need to add some sticks for movement. The aim controller worked so well with these.
@get2sammyb It was an exaggeration, lol. I get around the same as you. It's just not nearly as much time as it should be, considering the Switch Pro controller gets like 30 hours of battery life.
@KirbyTheVampire i don't think there's much they can do as sony still uses bluetooth 2.1. (whereas nintendo has been using the much more efficient 4.0 since the wii u(!) - the wii u pro controller had even longer battery life than the switch one...i can literally use it for several months without charging)

Agree with all others, why won't they do this for the DS4?!
This is designed and sold as a wireless controller but the amount of time my controller is plugged in to the console effectively means it's not wireless at all. Most of the time don't bother unplugging it as it runs down so quickly. They may have well made it with a fixed wire instead of skimping a few cents to put a bigger capacity battery in.

@get2sammyb Thing is though Sammy, the first (proper) wireless controller, the Wavebird, back in 2002 used to get 100 odd hours out of it.
This is 2017 and we get 4-5 on the DS4. Accepting less means we get less...
The stock DualShock 4 comes with a 1000mah battery. You can buy a 2000mah battery to replace it for around $6 usd. Easy to do swap, maybe 10 minutes...15 minutes if you keep dropping the screws like I do 😂
This article reminded me that I have one of these things sitting in my file cabinet with the rest of my extra controllers.

Well, to be fair, only on PS4. The Xbox One controller always lasts me ages and the Switch Pro Controller's battery life is pretty damn impressive as well (40 hours, give or take).

Never got one, don't think I will but I agree about the DS4's poor battery life. I always have one connected while I use the other one.
Guess we won't be seeing new Move or PSVR Headset till PS5. Make sense I guess.
The movement sticks will be part on the move 2(?) wands as part of the psvr 2/ps5. Makes business sense not to release the best of everything at once.

@Flaming_Kaiser I haven't broken them, but after years of daily usage, my micro USB port on my phone wore down quite a bit. It was pretty loose and it was on the verge of breaking. I've had this issue twice. The micro USB just aren't sturdy at all. Charging the DS4 and playing at the same time results in the same issue over time. There's a cord stuck to your controller and it's connected by a flimsy port, it's going to wear down some day.
I now own a USB-C type phone, and I'm glad I don't ever have to go back to micro. USB-C is just superior in every way.
And trust me, this is coming from someone who takes a lot of care for his devices. Never scratched a screen, no scratches on my discs, heck, even my gaming controllers all work fine today, no loose sticks at all.

@ToddlerNaruto I got mine at a local battery store. Perhaps put the power of google to the test or find a seller on eBay that’s highly rated. If you get one, understand that the battery power indicator that pops up on the PS4 will not be accurate any more.

@shafedog247 I did more research, so apparently it wouldn't matter.
I guess I should just wait until I get my PS4 first during BF sales, and see if I really need more than 6 hours battery life.
@ToddlerNaruto if that’s the case, I would recommend 2 controllers and a dual charger. Then just swap back and forth. Can alway use a second controller whenever a friend is over.
@shafedog247 Maybe if the PS4 controllers weren't $60 XD.
I'll probably just stick with the default battery, and while it's charging I can play on PS3, 360, WiiU, 3DS etc .
