We hope that you like articles made of nothing, because that's what you're about to get. The latest Japanese sales charts have been released, and there's bugger all happening in the Land of the Rising Sun. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen entered in seventh place on PlayStation 4, but it only shifted around 12,000 copies. Barely worth a mention, and that also applies to Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3, which scoped out eighth place with 11,000 copies.
In fact, it's low numbers across the board. FIFA 18 still has its studs in the top five, but sales dropped from almost 70,000 copies to just 13,000. The PS4 itself saw a drop, too, as the standard console dipped to just under 17,000 units and the Pro fell to around 6000 units. Not exactly the most exciting of times, is it?

Trails 3 at 100,000 already with physical, and with the record-breaking digital sales, it's already well beyond in total: http://gematsu.com/2017/10/legend-heroes-trails-cold-steel-iii-highest-digital-sales-rate-series
Worth noting that Super Famicom Mini sold close to 370,000 systems in just 4 days: http://gematsu.com/2017/10/nintendo-classic-mini-super-famicom-sold-368913-units-within-first-four-days-japan
All those Super Famicom Mini systems probably took away sales from everything else. There are a lot of quality games on that thing!
Wow, if not for M&L, Splatoon 2 would be number 1 this week.
Hey Japan, where is GTAV?
@sinalefa Splatoon 2 will keep selling for a while in Japan. Even the Wii U version sold over 1.5 million in Japan.
But it's not doing so well in the rest of the world.
Wow, didn't realise a) just how dominant Nintendo currently are and b) quite how far Microsoft have fallen 😨
@BowTiesAreCool This has been the status quo in Japan for years now.
@get2sammyb ah I thought it was across the board, literally didn't see Japanese in big letters at the start of the title 😂
@BowTiesAreCool It's an illusion created by NS's relatively recent launch. PS4 is already closing in on 6 million systems just in Japan, and is selling more games than NS even with its launch year effect still on (few games and no back catalogue, so people have to buy what few games there are from the new retail market for the system).
PS4 game sales are spread over a vastly bigger back catalogue (same with 2DS and 3DS, obviously).
So no Dragon Dogma 2 thats sad.
Sort your head out, Japan. Dark Arisen is super.
@ApostateMage : Its also been released several times by now No one should expect yet another re-release to still "do the business". If people want it, they have it (or the original Dragon's Dogma) on PS3, X360 or PC by now. Its just nice to see Capcom's strategy of multi-dipping is unpopular around the World, if you ask me.
But hey, at least we all have Deep Down to look forward to!
Wow. Wonder how many more years before high-end powerful consoles pull out of Japan altogether? Dire figures indeed!
@Mahe True that. When there are only a few games for the system, those few games will obviously sell well.
@rjejr The Super Famicom Mini is around the price of two full priced games, or a 2DS + budget title, so besides being great value with the included games and Wii-compatible SNES Classic Controllers, it can easily replace a game or two on the financial side.
Might also eat into the sales of more expensive systems. You can buy a Super Famicom Mini now instead of a new system, and wait for discounts or bundles to come along later for the standard systems (like the PS4 Monster Hunter World pre-launch bundle).
@ApostateMage It also didn't do well in UK. But it will probably sell more in the long run.
@bbq_boy PS4 is currently Japan's best selling home console (and will remain that way for the rest of the generation), and the second best selling system altogether after the 2DS and 3DS hardware family. It's tracking above PS3 launch-aligned, unlike the NS, which is tracking below 3DS launch-aligned. PS4 might have a shot at reaching Wii numbers in Japan (and the rest of the world also).
That's very interesting. I'm going to go play more Dragon's dogma.
@Mahe But Switch is tracking above Wii U though and will almost certainly beat that install base by a good margin...
The SNES mini will sell because of nostalgia plenty of grown ups from the 90's will want one. Shame Nintendo are a joke and won't make enough because we all know that's how they roll.
@Nakatomi_Uk Despite their vocal commitment to produce more units. Just keep perpetuating those dumb conspiracy theories... >_> (slow clap)
@Dodoo What isn't tracking above Wii U? Even Gamecube sold more than it.
@Mahe True
