Feature: 5 PS4 Firmware Update 5.00 Features You May Not Have Noticed

even with those features this should have been a 4.8. Sony really needs a reality check. so many of the features they've been releasing would be small updates on any other platform (android, iOS, windows, etc.)

also how about an article about this thing going on "E-801809A8" lot's of users cannot update to 5.0 (myself included) I cannot play online or any of my games -_-

@get2sammyb I tend to read the site in work when I can't stream vids on my phone, so it is more accessible to me to have it in text form. Not a huge issue of course, but I know you always welcome feedback.

That clock is great for when you're playing in VR.

@get2sammyb tbh there are a handful of features that were actual big features like the suspend mode and game streaming.

So i acknowledge they are improving things but the big number updates should all be big features and that hasn't been the case. as fast as what those updates should be, I can't say but the playstation community has been very vocal about what they want and what doesn't work well.

After a lot of years support for my home language has been added!
The menu is translated, I can use a local keyboard and there is no more problem with the fonts in some local websites.

@Shepherd_Tallon Maybe a way to lose the 1/5% trophies it always feel like the games are mocking me.

I can FINALLY turn on my PS4 with the remote control instead of always using the controller! Been waiting for this for awhile now!

@get2sammyb @wittypixel while perhaps not interesting to those without kids, putting in parental controls that aren’t a joke (before you’d restrict your kids and yourself with the same rules) is a large change to the operating system. The number system is likely based on the amount of code change instead of sizzle.

FWIW, to me this update is way more valuable than folders, background music, custom themes and external HD support combined, because both I and my kids use the system and they won’t always “just listen” like they do now.

Only thing I would like to see would be subfolders. Not really a big deal, but would be cool to put games in genres.

@Shepherd_Tallon OR be an adult use some common sense and delete some things from your HDD....Its not like they didn't change it months ago to where if unless you go all the way down to purchases in your library only whats on your HDD is shown in the list....

@JoeBlogs You mean cause they actually expect you to work, while your at work....What an odd concept that when a company pays you to perform a task for money, they actually expect you to do that and not have internet play time while your on the clock.....

When some people see a whole new version number they seem to expect a whole new user experience along with it. That feeling of playing a brand new console..

For some reason, and this could have been just mine, it finally added that you can play DVD movies. If this feature has been around, it sure wasn't letting my system...in the past if I put in a DVD and hit play, it would freeze up the system for a few minutes, then a message that says 'unknown disc' would appear. It's finally nice that I can move the PS3 downstairs now, and have the PS4 upstairs...since the PS3 is basically used as a movie player anymore...an expensive movie player with over 200 downloaded games, many themes and more on it!!! Anyways, I'm still waiting for them to add the feature that you can save your home photos and home movies on it, and also, waiting for when you can download the TV Episodes and Movies bought from the store back onto it without having to stream them all the time.

@get2sammyb Agreed with so many of the commenters here. A transcipt included for those that can't/won't watch the vid would be nice. I can read that in maybe a minute, vs 4 minutes to watch the vid.

@JLPick I've been watching retail DVD movies on my PS4 for some time now - that's not something the update added. Not sure how the update would have magically fixed your playback issues, though.

I watch videos if I'm on Youtube, but if I'm visiting websites, I only ever read articles.

I also read PushSquare while im at work and I am unable to play vids will get into trouble when im working
