God, this new concept car set to appear in Gran Turismo Sport is bonkers. Designed by McLaren in collaboration with Polyphony Digital and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi, it hints at the kind of vehicle the British manufacturer could be building in 2030 and beyond. And it’s just mental: it’s like a Tron Cycle where you have to lie in it.
“Just like McLaren’s road cars, the teardrop cabin and extensive glazing ensure exceptional visibility,” the press release explains. “And being single-minded in putting the driver first, meant an innovative approach to seating – the driver is positioned not just forward and centrally in the chassis, but lying on their front, with the rest of the car ‘shrink wrapped’ around them.”
You’ll be able to drive the vehicle alongside real-world McLaren counterparts like the 650S Coupe and the 650S GT3 in the final game when it releases on 17th October. We’re actually really looking forward to putting this through its paces.

@Neolit Exactly what I was thinking.
Very cool. I've been expecting a shift in driver position for a while now. Sitting upright isn't going to give the best design for an all out performance car. As long as you don't have to put weight on your arms, I wouldn't think this is uncomfortable for a few laps. I can keep that position on my motorcycle for a couple of hours before I start to feel it in my neck/back/abs.
Yeah if the seat (bed?) is ergonomically designed the stress on the body isn't going to be too bad, as NathanUC says not a whole lot worse than a sportsbike. Maybe even better as you're not dumping as much weight on your wrists.
Obviously being in good physical condition will always help too.
I've always liked McLaren cars, and this looks pretty cool. Seems fun to drive as well. If I manage to get the game, I'd love to take it for a spin.
Cool concept guess I have to wait and see how it drives. OK this has been bugging me for years. The speed of GT cars seems slow... Can polyphony give an option to play game at x1.5 or x2 speed pls. When it first came out on PS1 it was awesome and it felt fast. But in today's world the game hasn't caught up to what constitutes as a fast driving and fun game! I couldn't get into the last 2, although graphically gorgeous were actual yawn fests. Bring fun and adenine rush back into racers will ya?! If it stays a true boring driving simulator my wallet stays shut.
That reminds me of Homer Simpsons car, which bankrupted his brothers company.
@bbq_boy ... I don't think GT is the driving game for you lol
It does look a little slow in places but I remember the Red Bull X1 in GT5 and boy could that car shift. I'm liking the sounds in this one.
@kyleforrester87 haha yeah you might be right. But saying that, although we are getting older as gamers we still frikkin rock lol! Our reflexes are just as good as they were 10years ago. Don't dumb a game down just cos the gamer is ageing! That's ageism lol
