Looks like The Last of Us: Part II is about to enter full production, as Naughty Dog is hiring for… Well, a frightening number of new positions. The award-winning developer’s looking for everything from artists to programmers to designers to animators to… Well, you get the picture. You can find out more through here.
Despite being announced last year, the studio’s had a skeleton crew preparing Joel and Ellie’s latest adventure for full production, while the rest of the team developed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. But it looks like it’s now time for the firm to change gears on its survival horror sequel, hence why it’s hiring in so many positions.

So they've been flapping around flogging more uncharted, get this made already. I now don't hold much hope of this being a PS4 game before PS5 is launched.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Not really. From a business management perspective what they did makes sense. Pre-production needed to be completed on TLoU2, so instead of firing everyone or having them twiddle their thumbs while that was taking place, they had all of the artists etc work on a new game.
And now they can all transition to TLoU2.
I trust Naughty Dog a lot but...isn't this a bad thing? Idk seems like too many positions to hire from scratch
Do they need anyone to fetch coffee? I'm game. Just let me play TLOU 2 early.
@AFCC I mean, I imagine the calibre of those applying will be very high. I don't think it'll be a problem.
@AFCC I think it's common business practice, they ramp development when it goes into full production. The chances are fair few employers are on some kind of rolling contract till the game's done.
@get2sammyb that makes sense but I'm selfish and would prefer TLOU 2 rather than UC4 DLC which I did buy. I wish they had started all the pre production stuff last year, it went gold in March. I would suggest they had just expand the studio but I'll just have to be patient and wait maybe 6 or 7 years for a new game.
Glad to see they're pacing themselves with this. see lot's of comments about them rushing but patience is a lost art with developers.
considering rockstar, legend of zelda, horzion zero dawn, and The Last of Us 1. The formula seems simple, games that bake in the oven long enough leave the best after taste
@wittypixel mass effect andromeda?
It's good they are getting some more people on board for The last of us 2 but a little disappointed because I thought it was a bit further along then that
I'm currently playing through Last of Us 1 remastered on survivor difficulty while waiting for D2 to launch, and I gotta say in my opinion its probably the best linear single player experience ever, enjoying it so so much
Lets get some boss insider information and send @antdickens in as web designer.
Seriously though I cant apply for any of these jobs. Damn it.
@get2sammyb
Apologies for the long ass rambling question, I have zero knowledge of this sort of thing.
If ND can produce pretty a much full AAA game for all intents and purposes (Uncharted TLL) of this quality from start to finish in what a year or so? Why does it take so long to get to just full production on TLOU2?
I get that TLOU2 is a huge game for ND and I get the reusing of assets from UC4 etc cuts time but how long could the pre-production and full production have been on Uncharted TLL if the whole thing took about a year? Could it be six months pre and six months full production? Or is it likely that UTLL was in pre-production before UC4 released?
I guess it's 2 questions really. How have ND made a game so quickly of the quality of Uncharted TLL? And why in your opinion does it take so long on with TLOU2 simply for pre-production.
@adf86 makes sense...I just find it weird cause I was hoping they would be pretty far in development by now
@get2sammyb Sure, understandable! I also thought they would have a team working on it from the start so the game would be more cohesive...but what do I know about game development xD
