Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age was confirmed for Western release last week without any platforms attached, but now Sony has uploaded the localisation’s announcement trailer confirming that it will launch on the PlayStation 4 on these shores. It’s hardly a surprise given the system’s install base, but it’s nice to know for sure.
The game deployed in Japan last week and by all accounts is looking like it’s going to be a big seller on both PS4 and the Nintendo 3DS. A Switch version is also planned, so we wouldn’t be surprised if all three editions were ready in time for the title’s 2018 release in Europe and North America.

Well, guess that cements my worry of why release on 3DS in 2018. If the companies have the go ahead Nintendo said nothing.
And swear to God, that Switch version is vaporware no matter how much they say its a thing. Those "Adult reasons" are either development trouble or an exclusivity deal of some kind.
well i'm certainly getting it, love the Dragon Quest series
what would be nice is if they released ALL the DQ games on PSN and Nintendo eShop because as of now the only way to play the 1st three in the UK is on Android/iStore and the touch controls are horrendous
I'm really excited for this one. It's classic Dragon Quest and it looks gorgeous.
@BLP_Software Well ya see this was supposed to at one point be a PlayStation exclusive and I do wonder if Sony went to Square Enix and slid them a few million dollars (much like what is rumored w Monster Hunter) to keep it off Nintendo systems to push those who played the mainline Dragon Quest games on 3DS to get a PS4/PS4 Pro
The only reason it was no longer a PS4 exclusive in Japan understandably is due to 3DS has a bigger Japanese audience than the PS4
Switch I don't know I doubt it's cancelled but it's kinda like most 3rd party devs and indie devs who'll give Switch owners a version later because of doubt or focusing on the current versions and do not wish to delay the game
The constant gifs I've seen of the japan release make me want this game more.
I actually kinda predicted it may be a PS4 exclusive outside of Japan as Sony has money they can get Square to just localize the PS4 version if they pay up
Is it stupid? Not completely.... As if you've been playing the DQ games on Nintendo handhelds and have NO interest in DQ Heroes 1 or 2 or Builders then you prob don't have a PS4/PS4 Pro (or Vita cus Builders is on that system) yet well now that it is exclusive seemingly you'll have to shell out 200-400 dollars plus 60 extra dollars for the PS4/Pro and DQXI and btw there are people that haven't invested in a PS4/OS4 Pro yet due to lack of interest or exclusives that really don't interest... exclusives sell Systems.
I'll try it out. Hate to say it, but I've never played a mainline Dragon Quest game before, so this looks like the perfect time to take the plunge.
It's a good looking game. Although, at the moment, I'm smack dab in the middle of DQ VIII, so I hope this takes its time coming over.
Are the Dragon Quest Heroes games a good entry point for the series? Obviously not in terms of gameplay but in character and story?
@adf86 not really, it's combat, gameplay, world, structure in fact EVERYTHING about it are nothing like the main line DQ games apart from the looks i would recommend DQ8 if you really want to get into the series, it was recently released on the 3DS and if you can find a used copy it's on the PS2 as well
@FullbringIchigo Alright ok, I'm getting the new 2DS for my birthday so might look at that then thanks.
Hell yes, Ni no Kuni 2 and DQXI next year. Imagine if we get the first FFVII game as well...
@AyanamiReign we won't get FF7. They wouldn't release kh and ff7 in the same year if they didn't have to. Look for ff7 episode one in 2019....probably.
Eh, can't be arsed.
I don't like jrpgs and never liked the art direction of this series either
's gonna be an easy pass.
Since the ps1, playstation console is the place for jrpg, I have no doubt this game will be translated to west
The switch version in the west may not be a given being dragons quest heroes 1&2 never came west for the switch, I'm not sure if it's an agreement with square and Sony or just bad business sense on squares part. Either way I knew it would come west for the PS4 but I'm happy for the confirmation.
